Important Safety Instructions

WARNING – To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed including the following:

  • READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
  • DANGER – To avoid possible electrical shock, special care should be taken since water is employed in the use of aquarium equipment. For each of the following situations, do not attempt repairs by yourself; return the appliance to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance.
  • If the appliance falls into water, DON’T reach for it! First, unplug it and then retrieve it. If the electrical components of the appliance get wet, unplug the appliance immediately.
  • If the appliance shows any sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately unplug it from the power source.
  • Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.
  • Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug if it is malfunctioning, or if it has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
  • To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or receptacle getting wet, position the aquarium stand and tank to one side of the wall-mounted receptacle to prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug. As shown in the figure below, a “drip loop” should be arranged by the user for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to the receptacle.

Installation Guide

IMPORTANT: DO NOT OPERATE FILTER WITHOUT WATER.

  1. Assemble the intake tube as shown. (fig.1)
  2. Insert intake tube and filter cartridge. Make sure the control valve is firmly installed and adjust it to maximum flow. (fig.2)
  3. Hang the filter onto the rim of the aquarium and level the filter using the leveling knob. Fill the chamber with water to prime the filter. (fig.3)
    • NOTE: The minimum water level in the tank should be no more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) below the aquarium rim.
  4. Place the cover, plug in the power cord, and allow the filter to self-prime. (fig.4)
    • NOTE: Self-priming will take a few moments (normally less than 1 minute). You will see the water level in the tube rise. Purging of trapped air being released is NORMAL and noise will be audible. After priming has been completed, water will begin to circulate smoothly and silently.
  5. After priming has been completed, adjust the control valve to the desired water flow. (fig.5)

Maintenance

WARNING: Always unplug the filter before inspecting or disassembling it.

  • Clean the impeller and tube every 3 to 6 months. Replace the impeller yearly for optimal performance and to prevent wearing.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Q. What should I do if the priming process doesn’t occur?
    • A. Verify that:
    • All parts are installed CORRECTLY and FIRMLY.
    • The filter chamber is filled with water.
    • The minimum water level in the tank is no more than 1 inch (2.5 cm) below the aquarium rim.
    • The control valve is watertight, airtight, and in the position of maximum flow.
    • Check for cracks in the water intake tube and replace if defective.
    • No blockage in the tube and impeller.
  • Q. What if my filter stops working?
    • A. Please check if the impeller is clogged. Use tweezers to remove the impeller.
    • Clean the impeller and the impeller chamber. Put the impeller back and turn it gently by hand to ensure it is free to rotate.
  • Q. Why is my filter so loud?
    • A. The following situations may exist:
    • Filter is self-priming. Wait 2 minutes for air to be released.
    • Air does not evacuate from the filter. Check for cracks in the water intake tube and check the sealing of the flow control valve.
    • The impeller is worn and needs to be replaced.
    • The aquarium water level is lower than the normal level, which results in excessive splash. Fill up the water in the fish tank.
    • Adjust leveling knob to reduce vibration.
