Product Information

The HX240 HDMI Extender allows for latency-free transmission of audio-video signals from an HDMI source to an HDMI sink (TV, video projector, monitor, AV receiver) using CAT5e/CAT6/CAT7 network cables. It also enables the bi- directional transmission of infrared signals for remote control without a direct line of sight.

Usage Instructions

Installation and Operation:

  1. Connect the HDMI output of a player or PC to the HDMI input of the transmitter.
  2. Set the EDID switch to the TV position.
  3. Use a CAT5e or better network cable to connect the transmitter and receiver.
  4. Connect the receiver to the desired TV, video projector, or AV receiver.
  5. Select the output optimization using the EDID switch.
  6. Connect the power supply to the transmitter and plug it in.
  7. Turn on the terminal equipment (TV, sound system) before starting playback on the player.

Infrared transmitters and receivers:

  • a) Remote control of the player: Connect IR TX to the transmitter and IR RX to the receiver to control the player without line of sight.
  • b) Remote control of the display: Connect IR TX to the receiver and IR RX to the transmitter to control the display without line of sight.

Safety instructions

  • Please do not cover the housing or install the unit to avoid overheating.
  • Keep away from heat sources, fire, water and moisture.
  • Do not place heavy objects on the unit or the connecting cables.
  • Do not open or drill holes in the casing.
  • Clean the surface of the unit only with a soft, dry cloth – without cleaning agents, petrol or similar.
  • In case of prolonged non-use or malfunction, please disconnect the mains cable.

Service

The unit must be inspected by qualified personnel in the following cases:

  • Objects or liquids have entered the unit.
  • The unit does not operate normally or the performance has changed.
  • The unit has been dropped or the casing is damaged.

Installation and operation

  • Connect the HDMI output of a player or PC to the HDMI input of the transmitter. Set the EDID switch to the position TV.
  • Connect a CAT5e or better network cable to the transmitter and the receiver
  • Connect the receiver to the desired TV, video projector or AV receiver.
  • Use the EDID switch to select whether the output should be optimized for the local device or the device connected via the network cable.
  • Connect the power supply to the transmitter and plug it in,
  • First switch on the terminal equipment such as the TV and sound system. Then switch on the external player and start playback.

Video resolution and range

A maximum video resolution of 4K 120Hz (Ultra-HD 3840×2160 pixels) can be transmitted in RGB color mode or YUV4:4:4 with SDR, or HDR10 with YUV4:2:2. The range at maximum resolution and good cable (CAT6 or better) is 30 metres. At lower resolutions even greater distances are possible.

Infrared transmitter and receiver

  • a) Remote control of the player
    • Connect an infrared transmitter (IR TX) to the transmitter and an infrared receiver (IR RX) to the receiver. You can then take the infrared remote control of your player to the screen and control the player without line of sight.
  • b) Remote control of the display
    • Connect an infrared transmitter (IR TX) to the receiver and an infrared receiver (IR RX) to the transmitter. You can then take the infrared remote control of your display to the player and control the screen without a line of sight.

Transmitter connections

  1. Input (3.5 mm jack) for infrared receiver (IR RX), forwards the IR signal to the receiver
  2. Output (3.5 mm jack) for infrared transmitter (IR TX), issues IR control commands for the player
  3. HDMI input for connecting a media player or PC (HDMI source)
  4. Reset button, press to synchronise between transmitter and receiver
  5. EDID switch: In the TV position, the EDID of the display connected to the receiver is used for the player. This means that the supported audio and video formats of the remote display are used. In the STD position, support for 4K 120Hz is signalled to the player.
  6. RJ45 socket for network cable with yellow and green LED. The LEDs light up when a signal is being transmitted.
  7. Blue LED, lights up when the power supply is active
  8. Connection for 12 V 1A power supply unit to power the transmitter

Receiver connections

  1. Input 3.5 mm jack for infrared receiver (IR RX), forwards the IR signal to the transmitter
  2. Output 3.5 mm jack for infrared transmitter (IR TX), issues IR commands for the display
  3. HDMI output for connection to a display or AV receiver
  4. Reset button, press to synchronise between transmitter and receiver
  5. RJ45 socket for network cable. The yellow and green LEDs light up when a signal is being transmitted.
