CONGRATULATIONS!
The high-performance SCHUBERTH F300 firefighter helmet is an excellent choice. This helmet is a SCHUBERTH quality product, which was developed especially for increased thermal stress and meets the highest standards of safety and performance in use. It complies with the standard DIN EN 443: 2008 (www.beuth.de).
Protective helmets are part of personal protective equipment and help to prevent or at least significantly reduce head injuries. Please read this user manual carefully, so that your helmet can protect you properly during its use and in order not to neglect any aspect relevant to your safety.
NOTES ON USE
The firefighter helmet SCHUBERTH F300 is intended for firefighting in buildings, for rescue/salvage operations, for work in connection with traffic accidents and in general for all work within the scope of a firefighter. All other uses are to be excluded and release SCHUBERTH from any liability.
WARNING: The protective effect is only achieved when the helmet fits perfectly, the headband is adjusted to the head circumference and the chin/ neck strap is fastened. Removable parts must not be worn separately. Only wear the helmet when it is fully assembled.
WARNING: The helmet is designed to absorb one impact only. Like a car’s crumple zone, the energy acting on the helmet is absorbed by complete or partial destruction of the helmet’s shell or lining structure. Even if this damage is not immediately visible, the helmet must be replaced after an impact or other force.
LIABILITY FOR FUNCTION OR DAMAGE
The liability for the function of the firefighter helmet SCHUBERTH F300 is transferred to the owner or operator in any event if the SCHUBERTH F300 firefighter helmet is improperly maintained or repaired by persons who do not belong to SCHUBERTH GmbH or were not trained by SCHUBERTH GmbH or if handling is carried out that does not correspond to the intended use. SCHUBERTH GmbH is not liable for damage caused by non-observance of the above information.
Use
The firefighter helmet SCHUBERTH F300 is available in 2 helmet shell sizes (sizes M and L).
The helmet shells are approved for the following head size ranges:
Size M = 48 cm to 58 cm
Size L = 59 cm to 65 cm
Adjusting the head width
The head width can be adjusted by turning the rear quick head size adjustment
to the individual wearer’s head width.
Adjusting the wearing height
The 4-point suspension of the carrier net (carrying height!) is adjusted by
tightening or widening the four Velcro straps at the ends of the carrier net.
Adjusting the chin and neck strap
The chin strap’s quick release ensures easy opening and fastening of the chin
strap. Grasp the helmet with both hands on the chin-neck strap and pull it
over your head from the forehead. If necessary, adjust the head width and
fasten the chinstrap with the quick release fastener.
The neck strap must be tight under the ears and at the back of the head. A clamp buckle is provided on the right side (from the perspective of the wearer) to adjust the length of the neck strap.
The length of the chinstrap can be adjusted individually for different face shapes at two positions. The length of the vertical belts can be adjusted using the sliders on the left and right.
It is also possible to adjust the chin strap’s length under the chin by loosening or tightening the Velcro. These two adjustment options allow the position of the mortise lock to be shifted so that it rests in the most comfortable position for the wearer. The chinstrap must be snug under the chin.
WARNING: The SCHUBERTH F300 helmet complies with the requirements of the DIN EN 443:2008 standard on the retention system if the chin strap supplied by the manufacturer has been worn and adjusted in accordance with these instructions.
Using the Multi-Function Adapter (MFA)
The SCHUBERTH F300 comes with the Multi-Function Adapter (MFA) as standard.
This adapter offers the possibility to mount various accessories on the helmet
with a simple plug-in system.
WARNING: For further instructions on said accessories and their correct handling and use, please refer to their user manual.
Visor
The visor can be plugged into the MFA via the corresponding adapter. When you hear a click, it is locked in place.
Hearing protection
To attach the earmuffs to the MFA, an adapter is available that is designed for certain hearing protection models (with screw connection) from 3M. This adapter can also be clicked into the MFA via the plug-in system.
Lamp
A torch can be mounted to the left or right MFA via the corresponding lamp adapter.
If the MFA is already covered by the hearing protection, the lamp adapter can be plugged into the ear protection adapter.
Breathing mask / Basket goggles
The MFA is intended for the adaptation of a breathing mask as a helmet-mask combination. To do this, the mask adapter must be fastened to the MFA via a screw connection and can be fixed in three size positions.
The mask adapter can also be used to clamp a basket goggles’ retaining strap.
WARNING: It is not possible to use mask and hearing protection at the
same time.
Notes on use
Exchange Carrier Net
The carrier net can be easily removed by loosening the four Velcro connections in the helmet’s crown.
When inserting the new carrier net, please make sure that the narrower side is placed towards the forehead.
Exchange chin/neck straps
To remove the chinstrap, first release the two closing hooks on the left and right inner sides by pressing the lower tips out of the holder.
Then press the bridge of the neckband attachment tab slightly forward until it protrudes over the middle attachment pin. Then guide the neckband attachment tab downwards, using a small lever if necessary, until it can be released from the two outer pins.
To mount the new chin/neck strap, proceed in reverse order. Make sure that the SCHUBERTH symbol on the neckband attachment tab points inward. Insert the closing hooks with the snap-in studs towards the inside and pull them firmly until a clear snap is heard.
Exchange head support ring
In order to be able to exchange the head support ring, the chin/neck strap must first be removed (see Exchange chin/neck straps). Thereafter, the lateral support arms can be released from the head support ring.
Then squeeze the head support ring in the middle and turn it 90°. Now the snap-in holder on the head support ring can be pulled out of the opening in the retaining strap. To insert a new head support ring, please proceed in reverse order.
Cleaning and care
Only clean the helmet shell and lining with lukewarm soapy water. The helmet lining can also be treated with disinfectant (e.g. Heliosept Medical Spray). Do not use solvents.
Changes to the helmet
WARNING: The standard version of your helmet complies with the applicable
standards and may therefore not be changed or equipped with third-party
components and accessories of any kind. Incorrect or third-party linings,
subsequent drilling of holes for accessories or other changes to the safety
helmet impair the protective function and lead to its approval expiring. Only
accessories suitable for the SCHUBERTH F300 may be used. In case of doubt,
please contact SCHUBERTH directly
Service life – Firefighter helmet
This helmet’s service life is influenced by the type of material(s) used in its construction, as well as the environment in which the helmet is used and stored (according to EN 443: 2008). The F300 with a painted helmet shell made of advanced, high-temperature resistant thermoset material (HighTemp-Fibre) has an excellent ageing resistance and is not subject to any changes due to sunlight (UV radiation). The lifetime of these helmets is limited mainly by mechanical, thermal and chemical influences. Thermosets (such as the High- Temp-Fibre used) are generally considered to be very resistant to these stresses.
With regard to their ability to withstand weather-related, chemical and thermal effects, they are significantly more effective than thermoplastic materials.
WARNING: SCHUBERTH firefighter helmets do not have a mandatory service life deadline or expiry/discard date, as the maximum service life depends on the above-mentioned effects.
WARNING: To achieve the longest possible service life, it is essential to follow the instructions in the respective user manual. This includes in particular the instructions for the regular checking of its fitness for use as well as cleaning, care, maintenance and repair measures. Defective or worn helmet components must be replaced with original parts.
Checking the fitness for use
Please check the helmet shell, lining, chin strap and accessories at regular intervals and depending on use (e.g. always after fire fighting, rescue and salvage operations):
- A damaged helmet must not be used again. It must be exchanged and rendered useless.
- The helmet is designed to absorb one impact only. Like a car’s crumple zone, the energy acting on the helmet is absorbed by complete or partial destruction of the helmet’s shell or lining structure. After an impact or other force, the helmet must be replaced.
- Also, the helmet’s paint surface must be checked for damage, since the self-extinguishing special paint structure is an important factor for thermal performance and damage to the paint can lead to a reduction in service life. Small, superficial scratches do not reduce the protective effect.
- Even with helmet damage from high thermal effects or direct contact with chemicals (sometimes detectable by damage to or changes in the shell paint colour), the helmet must not be used any more.
For evaluation, use our damage overview in the download area at https:// www.schuberth.com/produkte/feuerwehr/downloads.html as a guide.
WARNING: As a rule, the helmet must not be used after being subjected to a high impact or any other force. This applies even if no external damage is visible.
WARNING: Since the shock-absorbing parts of the lining are also not exposed to visible influences, we recommend that the helmet be replaced after 15 years as a preventative measure.
Warranty
SCHUBERTH grants the original purchaser a warranty for material and manufacturing defects of 2 (two) years from the date of purchase if the helmet is used as intended. SCHUBERTH’s liability is limited at its sole discretion to either the repair or replacement of products that are demonstrably defective within the warranty period. The helmet must not deviate from its original condition and/or be damaged by improper use.
Maintenance
The helmet must undergo regular maintenance. The replacement of SCHUBERTH original parts from the spare parts and accessories list in this user manual can be carried out by the user, who must be trained in specific activities. Any other repair work must be carried out exclusively by trained personnel or at the SCHUBERTH Service Center.
Storage and transport
Firefighter helmets should be kept cool and dry in a protected place. Although the helmet shell is UV-resistant, the direct influence of sunlight must be avoided during storage in order to prevent any possible UV radiation damage to the luminescent coating. Storage in the vicinity of aggressive substances such as solvents and fuels must be avoided at all costs. The helmet can, sufficiently wrapped in padding foil, be transported in the box.
