- The EuroGuard helmet type in the version “forester” and “forester” in “orange luminescent” (alternative sales designation: EuroGuard V +) exceeds the max. total ventilation area of 450 mm², according to DIN EN 397 item 4.9 Ventilation. Increasing the total ventilation area due to dormer ventilation has no negative impact on all required tests according to DIN EN 397.

WORK PROTECTION HELMETS
Congratulations! This work protection helmet is an excellent choice. It complies with the requirements of DIN EN 397: 2012 (www.beuth.de) and is a SCHUBERTH quality product that has been specially developed for the respective field of application. Protective helmets are part of personal protective equipment and help to prevent or at least significantly reduce head injuries. The protective effect is only achieved when the helmet fits perfectly and the headband is adjusted to the head circumference.
Please read this instruction manual carefully so as not to neglect any aspect
relevant to your safety.
To ensure safe protection, this helmet must fit or be adjusted to the user’s
head size. Make sure that the helmet sits correctly on the head with the visor
facing forward.
The helmet is intended to absorb the energy of an impact by partial
destruction or damage to the helmet shell and lining, and any helmet subjected
to a severe impact should be replaced, even if damage is not immediately
recognisable.
Users must also be aware of the danger that will result if, contrary to the manufacturer’s recommendations, original parts of the helmet are altered or removed. Helmets should not be adapted in any way for the attachment of additional parts. Paint, solvents, adhesives or self-adhesive labels may only be applied or glued on in accordance with the helmet manufacturer’s instructions.
Head size adjustment
Ratchet fastener variant
Adjusting to a smaller head size: Simply push both ends of the headband
together at the back of the head to the desired head width. Adjusting to a
larger head size: Lightly press the headband together at the two “press”
markings and pull the headband halves apart to the desired head width.
Turn lock variant
By turning the rotary knob clockwise or counterclockwise you can make the head
width narrower or wider.
Wearing height adjustment
The lining can be adjusted in the wearing height. You do this by buttoning the
headband’s fastening parts higher or
lower in the head frame’s carrying elements. The wearing height adjustment is
at the lowest setting on delivery.
Care instructions
The helmet shell and lining can be cleaned with lukewarm soapy water.
Sweatbands are to be replaced by new ones if necessary. Do not use solvents
(e.g. nitro dilution). Proper cleaning, care and treatment of the protective
helmet is a prerequisite for its proper function.
Changes to the helmet
Caution: The standard version of your helmet complies with the applicable
standards and may therefore not be changed or equipped with third-party
components. Incorrect or third-party linings, subsequent drilling of holes for
accessories or other changes to the safety helmet impair the protective
function and lead to its approval expiring.
Only use replacement parts and accessories suitable for the protective helmet.

Spare parts and accessories
Only use SCHUBERTH original spare parts and accessories. We supply linings,
leather sweatbands and chin straps as spare parts. Accessories are available
for eye, face, hearing and weather protection.
Hearing protection
Adaptable earmuffs are available for some SCHUBERTH helmet models. Only use
ear defenders that are explicitly suitable for use with your safety helmet.
For details and explanations on the earmuffs’ use, operation and
features,please refer to the respective instruction manual.
Service life
For a personal protective equipment item, the minimum life expectancy (from
the date of manufacture) is limited to the maximum service life. This applies
even if the average life expectancy, as with thermoset materials, is
significantly higher.
Thermoset helmet shells
Thermoset helmet shells are not affected by sunlight (UV rays) and have
excellent ageing resistance (low brittleness). These helmets’ period of use is
limited mainly by mechanical damage*. SCHUBERTH helmets made of thermoset
material should not be used for more than 10 years from the date of
manufacture.
Since the thermoset helmets’ linings are made of thermoplastic material, they should be changed at least twice during the service life.
This also includes hairline cracks in the surface structure, which in combination with moisture may lead to gradual fatigue of the helmet shell.
Thermoplastic helmet shells
Thermoplastic helmet materials are more sensitive to UV than thermoset
helmets.
They should therefore be checked regularly. If crackling sounds** are
noticeable when the helmet shell is compressed or the helmet visor is bent,
this indicates embrittlement of the helmet shell and it must be replaced in
this case.
To roughly assess the embrittlement of helmet shells made of non-fiberglass- reinforced thermoplastic, the so-called “crackle test” is recommended. Gently push the helmet shell in laterally with the hands or slightly bend the visor. If you can hear crackling or pops when pressing your ear against it, the helmet should no longer be used.
The protective helmet should be discarded at that point. SCHUBERTH helmets made of thermoplastic materials should not be used longer than 4 years according to DGUV Rule 112-193 – Use of head protection. Please also note the applicable regulations in the country of use as well as recommendations of the competent institutions regarding the service life of safety helmets (in Germany the valid version of DGUV Rule 112-193 – Use of head protection) when determining your helmet’s duration of use.
The periods according to DGUV Rule 112-193 – Use of head protection mentioned here are values determined by studies, which may vary in practice depending on the operating conditions of the helmet. Therefore, a safety helmet ma y well be fully functional and capable of protection after these periods have expired.
Notes on use
Proper handling of the protective helmet is a prerequisite for its proper
function. Please carry out a regular check of the helmet shell and the lining.
If damage is detected, replace the helmet. After a heavy impact, the
protective helmet may no longer be worn. This applies even if the helmet does
not show any external damage. Electrically insulating helmets must not be used
alone. It is necessary to use other compatible PPE (personal protective
equipment) according to the risks of the work involved. Before use, check if
the helmet’s class is sufficient for the nominal voltage expected to be
present during use. Insulating helmets should not be exposed to situations
where there is a risk of partial reduction of insulating properties. If the
helmet becomes dirty or contaminated (oil, tar, paint, etc.), the outside
should be carefully cleaned, especially the outer surface, according to the
manufacturer’s recommendations.
Warranty
SCHUBERTH grants the original purchaser a warranty for material and
manufacturing defects of 2 (two) years from the date of purchase if the helmet
is used as intended. SCHUBERTH’s liability is limited at its sole discretion
to either the repair or replacement of products that are demonstrably
defective within the warranty period. The helmet must not deviate from its
original condition and/or be damaged by improper use.
Storage and transport
Protective helmets should be kept cool and dry in a protected place. They
should be stored away from direct sunlight.
The helmet can, sufficiently wrapped in packing paper, be transported in the
outer box. Insulating helmets must be stored in a suitable box or container
before first use and between each following use. They must not be squashed or
stored near any source of heat. A storage temperature in the range of 20±15°C
is recommended.
Fields of application and types of protective helmets and their abbreviations
All safety helmets are marked with the date of manufacture, abbreviation of
the material used, the type, the size and the symbol for additional safety
requirements.
The helmet shell’s material abbreviations are located under the visor.
Explanation of the material abbreviations
Thermoplastic helmet shell material:
ABS = Helmet shell made of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer

SUPPLEMENT FOR HELMETS WITH INTEGRATED EYE PROTECTION
The visor complies with the European standard DIN EN 166 and offers adequate protection against mechanical effects (such as metal splinters on lathes or milling machines) as well as against damage by small particles. The optical properties correspond to class 2.
Fitting and removing the visor
First pull the visor out as far as possible. Then press the lining’s two front
plastic holders (visor side) from below into their guides in the helmet shell
and pull them back through the recesses in the visor. Then loosen the quick-
release fasteners on the outside of the helmet dome with a coin or screwdriver
and gently turn them a quarter turn counterclockwise until they stop (be
careful: the quick-release fasteners may fall out). Remove quick-release
fasteners and visor and store safely. To fit the visor, proceed in reverse
order.
Fitting and removing the CROSS®LINE visor
First pull the visor out as far as possible. Then press the lining’s two front
plastic holders (visor side) from below into their guides in the helmet shell
and pull them back through the recesses in the visor. Unhook the visor from
the guide rails. To fit the visor, proceed in reverse order.
For retrofitting the visor in helmets from the Cross®Line series, please refer to theenclosed assembly instructions.

WARNING: The protective effect will only be achieved if the visor is worn during the entire stay in areas where there are hazards that may damage the eye or impair vision.
WARNING: When wearing eye protection devices over normal prescription eyewear, danger to the wearer by the impact of parts due to the transmission of shocks cannot be excluded. High temperatures reduce the visor’s protective effect, and protection against mechanical stress and impacting parts is not given under such conditions.
Cleaning
Never use petrol, oils, solvents or other aggressive substances for cleaning.
Only use a soft cloth, mild soapy water or mild detergent to remove dust, dirt
or other contaminants. To dry the visor, we recommend a lint-free cloth or
cleaning paper. Other cleaning agents can corrode the coating and cause damage
or visual restrictions. For disinfection of the visor, “Heliosept® Medical
Spray” can be used.
Service life and review
The visor’s service life depends directly on the type of stress it is
subjected to. Please therefore carry out a regular inspection of the visor and
its attachment. In the case of visible damage or visual impairment (for
example due to scratches, cracks, dull areas, discoloration or dirt), replace
the visor pane with a new one. The visor’s maximum service life should not
exceed 3 years.
WARNING: Changes to the visor or its attachment (for example, by drilling holes or similar) will partially or completely nullify the protective effect. At the same time, any liability and warranty from the manufacturer or supplier expires.
Storage and transport
Visors should be kept cool and dry in a protected and dust-free environment.
They should be stored away from direct sunlight. The visor can be transported
in the outer box if it is first packed in a polythene bag and sufficiently
wrapped in packing paper.
