HOW TO USE
- Assemble. Attach the membrane microfilter to the reservoir by first unscrewing the neck cap on the squeeze bag. Screw the membrane microfilter firmly into the inside of the top cap, so that when the cap is retightened onto the squeeze bottle, the filter sits inside the reservoir.
- Fill. When ready to use, open the squeeze bag to fill it with water by unscrewing the neck cap. Fill with water, and retighten the cap to close.
- Sip or squeeze. Open the top cap. To sip, take 5 quick, strong pulls of water using the mouthpiece to get the water flowing. To squeeze water out of the reservoir, simply apply pressure to the reservoir. Close the top cap when finished.
- Backwash. Regularly backwash your filter after drinking to keep the filter clean and to prevent clogging. To do this, disconnect the membrane microfilter from the top cap by twisting counterclockwise. Then, screw the included backwash syringe onto the membrane microfilter. Plunge the open end of the filter into drinking water, and draw water up through the filter by pulling the syringe upward and away from the filter until it reaches the edge of the housing. Then push water back through the filter by pressing the syringe downward toward the filter until the water has fully been pushed through the other side. Repeat several times.
If storing your LifeStraw Peak Series Collapsible Squeeze Bottle Water Filter System for greater than 1 month without use, we recommend following our long- term storage instructions to preserve the longevity of the filter and prevent clogging. LONG-TERM STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Avoid drying out the filter by storing it with a saline solution made by mixing a teaspoon of salt with water. This will keep the filter at its highest performance and maintain the hydrophilic properties of the membrane, while also preventing any mold or algae from growing during long-term storage. When the membrane becomes completely dried out, it can be difficult to get water to flow through again. Follow these steps if you have already used the LifeStraw Peak Series filter and you plan to store it for greater than 1 month without use. If storing for longer than 3 months, we recommend cleaning with a diluted bleach solution prior to storage for increased disinfection. These instructions can be found at www.lifestraw.com.
- Immerse in Salt Solution. Fill a reusable container with 2 cups of water, add 1 teaspoon of salt and dissolve. Place the filter into the saline solution and use the backwash syringe to pull water fully into the filter. Attach the filter to the lid with the cap closed, pour the remaining solution into the collapsible squeeze bottle, and screw the filter and lid back onto the bottle.
- Store. Store the bottle that contains the saltwater in a cool dry place.
- Resume Use. To use your Peak Series filter again, discard the salt solution and fill your bottle with regular source water. Use the backwash syringe to remove residual saltwater from the filter by pulling in the new water and pushing it back through the filter.
