Product Overwe

  1. 8 L qravity baq w/ carry strap + carabiner
  2. Swivel attachment and hose
  3. Neck cap
  4. Membrane ultrafilter
  5. Pre-filter basket
  6. Leak proof plug cap
  7. Backwash syringe
  8. Adapter to enable direct filling of 28mm threaded water bottle

HOW TO USE

  1. Prepare for use by removing the entire neck cap assembly from your empty 8L gravity bag. Then, remove the plug cap from the neck cap, and attach the threaded swivel attachment on the hose to the neck cap. Leave the neck cap assembly with hose attached to the side, while you fill your bag with water.
  2. Leaving the pre-filter basket inserted, fill your gravity bag with water. You can fill most easily by fully submerging the gravity bag with water over the opening. Re-attach the neck cap, with the hose and membrane ultrafilter already attached.
  3. Hang the gravity bag filled with water to an anchor point, using the strap to secure.
  4. Filter safe water, by twisting the end of the membrane ultrafilter counterclockwise as marked to begin the flow of water. To stop the flow, simply twist clockwise to the closed position. Note – if you wish to directly fill a water bottle, simply thread on the included water bottle adaptor to the threaded water outlet of the membrane ultrafilter. Then, thread on a standard 28mm water bottle, and again twist the cap to the open position to allow for water to flow. Tip: Do not tighten the bottle fully to the adapter, to let air inside the bottle release as water enters.
  5. To temporarily store unfiltered water in the 8L dirty water bag – remove from the hanging position and then remove the hose by twisting the attachment counterclockwise. Then, replace the plug cap back into the threaded insert on the neck cap. Note: It is not suggested to store water in your 8L gravity bag longer than 3 days. Never use the dirty water bag to store filtered water as recontamination may happen from previously held dirty water.
  6. When finished, remove your bag from the hanging position, unscrew the hose and ultrafilter cartridge, and empty your bag. To empty the bag, remove the neck cap completely and empty all water. Ensure to leave the cap off to allow the bag to dry fully.

BACKWASHING
Its best to backwash your ultrafilter daily after each use if you plan to store your system, and whenever you begin to notice the flow of water decreasing. To backwash the ultrafilter:

  1. Disconnect the ultrafilter with hose attached from the 8L bag and remove the hose by unscrewing the orange ring counterclockwise. (this is a must)
  2. Filt the backwash syringe with safe water
  3. Thread the syringe onto the threaded water outlet of the membrane ultrafilter. Ensure that the ultrafilter cartridge is in the open position, to allow water flow through.
  4. Dipping the exposed cartridge inlet into water, and then using the syringe push/pull the water through the filter Stimes slowly
  5. Allow the water to drip backwards out of the water inlet side of the ultrafilter cartridge. This is contaminated water that has dislodged particulated from the filter – do not drink. Note: The use of sandy, silty, and muddy water will increase the cadence in which backwashing may be needed, as these particulates will clog your ultrafilter cartridge. Always attempt to use the clearest water possible.

LONG-TERM STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS (over 3 months)

  1. Backwash membrane ultrafilter according to backwashing instructions
  2. Rinse the dirty water gravity bag, basket, cap, and hose with safe water.
  3. Fill the dirty water bag with safe water until max line and add 1/2 teaspoon of household bleach. Close the cap and shake the bag a few times to mix well.
  4. Connect the hose to the filter, hang the gravity system, and twist to allow the flow of water through the filter until the gravity bag is empty.
  5. Disconnect the filter and keep vertical a few moments until no water runs out. Do not shake the filter.
  6. Twist to close the membrane ultrafilter cartridge, keep the hose attached to the filter and roll it around.
  7. Allow the dirty water gravity bag to dry naturally, by leaving the cap removed.
  8. Store in a cool, clean place.

Note : After long time storage, filter one batch of water and discard it to rinse the system. Your system is ready to be use again

TIPS
Test your gear before you go! Follow the how to use instructions to make sure your LifeStraw Peak Series 8L Gravity Water Purifier system is operating as you expect itto.

Optimal filtration rate:
Air trapped in the ultrafilter hose or cartridge may reduce or block flow rate. Make sure the prefilter is completely screwed into its locking position. In case you see air in the hose, you can help to remove it through the system by gently squeezing the hose and tapping cartridge.
