Long Term Storage Instructions

Long Term Storage Instructions for LifeStraw Personal
Follow these steps if you have already used the LifeStraw Personal and you plan to store your LifeStraw for greater than 1 month without use.

  1. Disinfect. Mix ¼ teaspoon of bleach with 2 cups of clean water. Close the bottom cap of the LifeStraw and open the top lid and pour solution in through the mouthpiece. Close top cap and let stand for 5 minutes. Open both caps and rinse under clean tap water for 01 min.
  2. Immerse in Salt Solution. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in 2 cups of clean water. Close the bottom cap and pour solution into the top cap until full. Take the remaining water and pour into a bottle or a Ziploc bag. Store the LifeStraw in the salt solution with both caps open.
  3. Store. Store bottle/bag that contains the LifeStraw in salt water in a cool dry place.
  4. Resume Use. To use your LifeStraw®️ again, discard the salt solution blow any remaining solution out of the filter. Spit out first few sips as they may still taste salty.

Note: We recommend storing the bottle with a salt/saline solution because it helps to prevent any mold or algae from growing during long-term storage, while also keeping the membrane microfilter wet which ensures a good flow rate when resuming use. When the membrane becomes completely dried out, it can be difficult to get the product flowing again.
