Follow all the safety instructions and operating instructions.

  • All persons who use or service the product must have read these instructions and be aware of the potential risks associated with the product.
  • This product can be used by children from 8 years and upwards and by persons with physical, sensorial, or mental disabilities, or persons who lack experience or knowledge if they are supervised or receive instructions concerning the safe use of the product and understand the risks involved with its use. Do not allow children to play with the product. Do not allow children to clean or maintain the product without supervision.
  • The soldering pen is intended for melting and applying solder on different surfaces, such as a circuit board.
  • Do not use the product when other persons, especially children, or pets, are in the vicinity.
  • Always follow local regulations for safety at the workplace and prevention of accidents.
  • Never modify the product in any way. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any personal injury and/or material damage resulting from such modifications.
  • Put the product on its stand when not in use.
  • The product must only be connected to an earthed power point 230 V — 50 Hz.
  • Wear safety glasses.
  • Only use the product in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses.
  • Put the product on its stand when not in use.
  • Keep the work area clean, well-lit, and ventilated.
  • Never leave the product unattended when plugged in.
  • Only use the product on a fireproof underlay.
  • Never touch the soldering tip when the plug is plugged in.
  • Tin solder contains lead, which is a toxic metal. Always wash your hands after use.
  • A damaged charger or battery must be replaced by an authorized service center, or a qualified person, to ensure safe use.
  • Even if the product is used in accordance with the instructions it is impossible to rule out all risk factors. The following are potential risks associated with the type and design of the product.
    – Risk of damage to the lungs if an effective breathing mask is not worn.
    – Risk of eye damage if safety glasses are not used.
    – Risk of burn injury from contact with a hot surface.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR II BATTERIES

  • Never attempt to open batteries.

  • Do not store the where the temperature can exceed 40°C.

  • Only charge at an ambient temperature of 4 to 40°C.

  • Only charge with the supplied charger.

  • Recycle used batteries in accordance with local regulations.

  • Never short-circuit batteries. Short-circuiting the battery produces a high current that overheats the battery, which can result in a risk of fire, corrosive injury, and/or material damage.

  • Do not expose batteries to heat. Batteries can be damaged if they are exposed to temperatures over 100°C, which can result in a risk of fire, corrosive injury, and/or material damage. Batteries must not be burned — the risk of explosion or leakage.

  • A small amount of fluid can leak from the battery during extreme use, or in extreme temperatures. Follow the instructions below if you discover fluid on the battery.
    – Carefully wipe away the fluid with a cloth. Avoid contact with battery fluid.
    – Follow the instructions below if you get battery fluid on your skin or in your eyes:
    – On skin contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of fresh water. Neutralize with a weak acid, such as lemon juice or vinegar.

  • In the event of eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of fresh water for at least 10 minutes. Seek medical attention.

  • Fire risk: Protect the battery from short-circuiting. The battery must not be burned or exposed to a naked flame.

  • The battery will not charge at temperatures below 0°C.

  • Charge the battery at intervals of 3 to 6 months if the product is not in use.

  • Charge the battery to at least half of a full charge before putting it away if it is not going to be used for some time.

  • The battery gets warm during the charging. This is quite normal. The battery is only partially charged on delivery. Fully charge the battery before using it for the first time. Read all the instructions and safety instructions carefully before charging the battery.

  • The battery will not charge at temperatures below 0°C.

  • Make sure the power cord does not get entangled or creased.

  • Unplug the mains adapter when the product is not in use. Store the product in a dry place out of the reach of children.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHARGER

  • For indoor use only.
  • Only use the supplied charger.
  • Do not attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
  • The supplied charger and battery are intended to be used together. Do not attempt to charge other batteries with the supplied charger.
  • A damaged power cord or plug must be replaced by an authorized service center or other qualified personnel to ensure safe use.
  • Do not expose to rain or moisture.
  • Do not open the charger.
  • Do not insert objects into the ventilation openings on the charger.

USE

BEFORE USING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME
Fully charge the battery before using the soldering pen.

  1. Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the rated voltage on the type plate. Plug the mains adapter (c) into a suitable PowerPoint.
  2. Connect the charger connector (b) to the charging connection (a) on the back of the product.
  3. The charging status light (6) goes red during the charging. It takes about 135 minutes to fully charge the battery.
  4. When the battery is fully charged the status light (6) goes green. Unplug the mains adapter (c) from the PowerPoint. The soldering pen is now ready to use.

NOTE:

On delivery, the soldering pen is in transport mode to avoid the risk of it starting unintentionally and causing a fire, and/or discharging the battery. In this mode, the soldering pen cannot be started with the power switch. Follow the instructions below.
STARTING THE SOLDERING PEN
The soldering pen has a power switch (5), a charging status light (6), and a status light for heating (4).

  1. Press the power switch (5). The charging status light (6) goes on.
    — The battery is fully charged when it goes green. A red status light means that the battery is fully discharged.

  2. Press the power switch for 1 second to switch on the soldering pen.

  3. The soldering pen is ready to use when the status light (4) for heating goes red (after about 60 seconds). 4. Press for 1 second to switch off the soldering pen.

SOLDERING
Preparation

  • Place a damp sponge near the work area to clean the soldering pen when necessary.

  • Before using a new soldering tip, allow a small amount of solder to melt on the tip (1). This improves the transfer of heat from the tip to the soldered joint.
  • Check that the workpiece and soldering tip are clean.
  • Clean the workpiece with a knife or a small file. Wipe the soldering tip with a damp sponge before, during, and after soldering. This will make the soldered joint cleaner and stronger.
  1. Hold the soldering pen like a normal pen, with your fingers on the base of the handle (3), just over the flange (8).
    WARNING
    Never touch the stem (2) or tip (1), where the temperature can reach up to 400°C.

  2. Keep the tip pressed against the workpiece for a few seconds to heat it up.

  3. Apply the solder to the joint — not the tip — so that the solder melts on the joint.

  4. When the joint is covered by solder, hold the workpiece still and pull away the solder and the tip at the same time.

NOTE:

  • A good soldered joint is smooth and bright. Otherwise, the joint should be heated again and solder applied.
  • The soldering tip has a long life span and does not need to be replaced during normal use.

MAINTENANCE

  • Unplug the mains adapter when the soldering pen is not in use.
  • Wipe clean the soldering tip with a damp sponge (sold separately) after use, for best functionality and life span
  • Store the soldering pen in a dry place out of the reach of children.
  • Charge the battery at intervals of 3 to 6 months if the soldering pen is not in use.
  • Charge the battery to at least half of a full charge before putting it away if it is not going to be used for some time.

Transport mode
Reset the product to transport mode before transporting and/or putting it away. Press the power switch (5) for 5 to 8 s, until the status light (6) flashes red 3 times. Check that the product cannot be started with the power switch.
