Instruction for Use
TPP Centrifuge Tube
The TPP centrifuge tubes are used for preparing, mixing, centrifuging and
storing suspensions (cells, bacteria, precipitates, etc.), solid and liquid
reagents and samples. The centrifuge tube is for single use only.
Note
Follow the national regulations for handling biological materials and wear the
appropriate protective clothing. During the work process, be sure to observe
the rules of aseptic technique.
Instructions
- Inspect packaging and product for integrity. Use only materials in perfect condition.
- Check the expiry date (EXP) on the label and packaging. Use only products with a valid EXP.
- Open the package in a sterile environment and remove a complete system for use.
- Open the centrifuge tube and fill it with the medium and inoculum according to your laboratory routine. Please refer to the optimal filling volume (see technical data).
- Close the screw cap tightly for a gas- and liquid-tight seal without damaging the sealing lip in the cap. Ensure that the contents cannot escape.
- Centrifugation: The use of appropriate rotors or centrifuge adapters is recommended. Follow the centrifuge manufacturer’s safety instructions.

- The mechanical strength of the tubes during centrifugation is influenced by
- Shape and material
- Accuracy of fit in the centrifuge adapter
- Temperature, centrifugation time, relative centrifugal force (RCF)
- The chemical and physical properties of the centrifuged material
- Rotor type: fixed-angle or swing-out rotor
- Test the many influencing factors in advance under routine conditions.
- Store at room temperature before use, protected from UV light.
Advice and Recommendations
- Centrifuging at (too) high speed may cause deformation of the tube.
- The volume scale is an indication of the filling volume, not an absolute value.
- Alcohol 90% with mechanical stress (rubbing) may dissolve or blur the white colour of the print.
Storage in Minus Temperatures
- The product should only be used for its intended use. TPP does not assume any product warranty in case of damage when used otherwise.
- For storage in temperatures below °C transfer the samples into TPP cryo tubes.
- If centrifuge tube storage in the minus temperature range is desired, TPP recommends testing the product in advance under the selected conditions.
Important
- The material of the tube and cap is not designed to withstand temperatures below 0 °C. For storage below 0°C, transfer specimens to TPP cryo tubes.
- Temperatures below 0 °C cause reduced elasticity of polypropylene. Do not subject frozen tubes to mechanical stress, such as dropping or hitting them.
- When storing at sub-zero temperatures, ensure that the contents freeze evenly and from bottom to top. → If the contents of the tube freezes first at the top, expansion cracks may occur at the bottom.
- Styrofoam racks have a strong insulating effect, which makes it difficult for the contents of the tubes to freeze evenly.
- TPP assumes no responsibility for damage caused by, during, or as a result of the use of centrifuge tubes in freezing processes.
