Installation
- Mount connection box on C-clamp.
Installation
- Undo screw and remove housing cover.
- Undo fixing screws of the cable clamp and take out upper part of cable clamp with gasket insert.
- Adapt upper and lower part of the cable clamp according to the number and diameter of the mains supply cables.
- Strip mains supply cable and insert it in such a way that the cable sheathing is led at least 5 mm into the connection box.
Please note:
- In case of only one mains supply insert it through the left sided opening of the cable clamp. Assemble cable clamp.
- Make earth conductor connection and make electrical connection at terminal L1, N and PE.
- The connection of the available control phase must be carried out at the line marked with LST.
- Lead the luminaire connecting cable through the compression nipple into the connection box.
- The mains supply connection of the luminaire has to be made to the brown, blue and greenyellow core at terminals L · N · PE. The cables marked with DALI are to be connected at terminal DA/DA.
Startup procedure
- Set the required operating mode 1 or 2 using the slide switch S3.
- Operating mode 1: Switching the colour temperature by switching the control phase on or off
- Operating mode 2: Switching the colour temperature by way of virtual midnight calculation
- The position of the slide switch is recorded and stored when supply voltage is applied.
- Establish the connection according to the circuit diagrams for mode 1 or mode 2.
Factory Settings
- S3 = mode 1, S1 = 0, S2 = 0
- Control phase switched off: Colour temperature 1800 K
- Control phase switched on: Colour temperature 3000 K
- The colour temperature can be inverted via the free software DALI Cockpit.
- The control phase must be applied to the module and switch S3 must be in position 1.
- The software is available for you to download on our website: https://www.bega.com/dali-cockpit
- An additional DALI USB interface (71 024 or 71 054) is required for use of the software.
- Please ensure that the luminaires connected to the BEGA BugSaver® control device are not set to switch on ex works.
- When commissioning is effected by the customer, please select the required mode and adjust the settings in accordance with the relevant tables.
Operating mode 1: Switching the colour temperature via control phase
Circuit diagram for operating mode 1
- The BEGA BugSaver® control device is powered by a separately switched phase.
- When the control phase is switched off, the connected luminaires switch to the level preset by the BugSaver control device for rotary switch S1 and the relevant colour temperature value (1800 K ex works).
- When the luminaire is powered up with the control phase switched on, the colour temperature is switched from 1800 K to 3000 K and the dimming level is switched with a transition time (fadetime) of approx. 1 minute.
- When using a switched control phase, the loose wire marked LST must be plugged into the terminal marked L on the BEGA BugSaver® control device.
- Use rotary switch S1 to set the level while the control phase is deactivated.
- Use rotary switch S2 to select the level while the control phase is activated.
Example (marked grey in the table):
- S1 = Position 9 = 100% power and 1800 K with deactivated control phase
- S2 = Position E = 50% power and 3000 K with activated control phase

Operating mode 2: Switching the colour temperature by way of virtual midnight calculation
Circuit diagram for operating mode 2
- When using the virtual midnight calculation, the loose wire marked L must be plugged into the terminal marked L on the BEGA BugSaver® control device.
- The time for switching the colour temperature is defined using rotary switch S1. The dimming level is set via the rotary switch S2.
- The time of virtual midnight is calculated based on the operating duration, and a time relative to that value is defined for the power reduction and colour temperature (1800 K / 3000 K).
- If the duty cycle of the night phase changes, midnight tracking is provided; this takes place after 3 successive duty cycles which are identical to within 10 minutes.
Illustration: Switching the colour temperature with virtual midnight calculation
Mode of operation during initial operation
- The BEGA BugSaver® control device sets virtual midnight to 4 hours after switch-on time.
- The switching times t1 and t2 relative to virtual midnight are set on rotary switch S1 in accordance with the following table.
- The system only uses activation periods for the night phase of more than 4 hours for the midnight calculation. Shorter activation periods are ignored.
Example: (marked grey in the table)
- S1 = Position 0 and S2 = Position 9 = illumination reduced to 50% for 5 hours and colour temperature 1800 K

Please note:
To change the level at 3000 K in operating mode 2, please proceed as follows:
- Make the electrical connection according to the circuit diagram for operating mode 2.
- Set switch S3 to position 2 and S2 to position 0.
- Activate the power supply for the BEGA BugSaver® control device and all connected DALI luminaires.
- Set switch S3 to position 1 and set the desired level at 3000 K with S2 (see table position S2).
- Then set switch S3 back to position 2 (the level set will be adopted).
- Now set switches S1 and S2 to the desired position as described under operating mode 2.
- Then briefly switch off and reconnect the power supply.
Test mode
- S1 or S2 in position F: The dimming level is set to 100 % (3000 K) and reduced to 50 % (1800 K) after 5 seconds.
