OPERATING CONDITIONS

FOR THE TESTER: 0°C-40°C; HUMIDITY 575%, ALTITUDE ABOVE SEA LEVEL <2000 M A.S.L.

The tester is intended for determining the presence of alternating voltage on conductors or screw connections in the range 110-250 V 50/60 Hz and the tightening and loosening of live screw connections up to 250 V AC 50/60 Hz. Prior to using the tester, the tester, the tested location, and the hands of the user must be perfectly dry. Prior to testing first inspects the tester and if faultless, check its working order on a known voltage source in the range 110-250V —50/60 Hz. Do not use a damaged tester for performing measurements. To determine the presence of voltage within the afore-mentioned range, apply the metal tip of the tester to the tested object while at the same time holding a thumb or palm down on the metal part on the top of the tester handle (see figure above).
WARNING! The tester must not be used for voltages exceeding the specified range.
WARNING! Do not touch the uninsulated testing parts of the tester while testing, risk of injury by electrical shock! If the red indicator light in the window on the handle is lit, the tested object is under voltage in the aforementioned range. If the indicator light is not lit, this means that the tested object is not under voltage – the object may, however, be under a voltage that is outside the measurement range of the tester.

WARNING!

  • For safety reasons, do not use the tester to measure electrical installations requiring level III and IV overvoltage categories (CAT III and CAT IV).

  • The specifications for the individual overvoltage categories CAT Ito CAT IV according to EN 61010-1 are provided below and are illustrated in the picture.

  • Electrical installations requiring an overvoltage category IV (CAT IV) measuring device are the following : Electrical equipment located in the near vicinity of a building’s power source, between the input into the building (junction box) and the main switchboard. Such equipment may include, for example, tariff electricity meters and primary overvoltage protection devices.

  • Electrical installations requiring an overvoltage category III (CAT III) measuring device are the following: Equipment that is part of the electrical installation in a building. Such equipment includes power sockets, circuit breaker boards, and certain other main power control installations. The measuring device meets the requirements for the CAT III protection level only up to the specified voltage value, and it must not be used for measuring installations requiring the CAT III level which are at higher voltages.

  • Overvoltage category II (CAT II) includes equipment intended to be powered from the building installations. This applies both for equipment connected to power sockets as well as for permanently connected equipment.

  • Overvoltage category I (CAT I) covers equipment intended for connection to mains power, where the equipment incorporates measures that significantly and reliably reduce transitional overvoltage to a level that cannot present a hazard. Overvoltage category I (CAT I) is not relevant to norm EN 61010-1, according to which the measuring device has been tested.
