Operation
WARNING!
Carbon ceramic brake discs are a safety-relevant part of a vehicle. Therefore,
any measuring should be carried out with the appropriate care. In doing so,
please comply with all the instructions and warnings in this manual as well as
with the service and repair instructions of the respective vehicle and/or
brake disc manufacturer.
Installation
Designated Purpose
The instrument measures the manufacturer-defined useful life of carbon ceramic
brake discs with a pre-engraved Carboteq value. The instrument may not be used
to test other brake discs but only carbon ceramic brake discs with a pre-
engraved Carboteq value.
WARNING! Do only use the instrument to test carbon ceramic brake discs
with a preengraved Carboteq value.
Getting Started (see page 3)
Press to turn the instrument on. After powering up, the display should show: If the display does not show a 0.0, set the instrument to zero by performing a reset (see Troubleshooting, Maintenance and Support).
Functional Test (see page 3)!
WARNING! It is essential to verify the correct function of the instrument after every power-up. Without a proper functional test, the accuracy of measurements cannot be provided. Place the instrument in the two positioning holes on the test plate. Ensure no metal or conductive materials are located below the test plate. A properly working instrument should indicate the reference value as seen on the test plate label. A deviation of ± 2.0 units [CQ] is acceptable. If the deviation exceeds ± 2.0 units [CQ], the instrument must be calibrated. For proper calibration, please send the instrument to a Proceq-certified service centre.
WARNING!
Do not use the instrument if the functional test shows a deviation exceeding ±
2.0 units [CQ].
Measuring (see page 3)
Place the instrument completely flush on the outer edge of the brake disc.
Move the instrument along the curved radius until the laser beam is aligned
with the pre-engraved marking on the brake disc. Freeze and unfreeze the
display by pressing the key for a comfortable reading of the measured value.
Note: After 30 seconds, the laser beam turns off to save energy. To turn
it on again, simply lift the instrument and reposition it back onto the brake
disc. Measuring procedures differ between vehicles. Each vehicle and/or brake
disc manufacturer provides individual measuring instructions. Moreover, each
vehicle and/or brake disc manufacturer outlines exactly how to interpret the
measured Carboteq values to properly assess a brake disc’s useful life.
WARNING! For the correct measuring procedure and data interpretation
always comply with the service and repair instructions of the respective
vehicle and/or brake disc manufacturer. External electromagnetic fields can
influence the measuring results.
WARNING! Make sure that there are no external electromagnetic fields in
the area while using the instrument. Do not use the instrument with any
external electromagnetic fields in the area.
Troubleshooting, Maintenance and Support
Hold the instrument in the air (ensure no conductive material is within 30 cm) and press the key for 3 seconds. The reset function compensates for drifts due to temperature or other external influences. If the reset fails, please make sure that no conductive material is close to the instrument and repeat the reset procedure. If the charging symbol appears on the display, connect the USB charger to the instrument to recharge the battery. To prevent damage to the instrument, make sure it is charged regularly.
Please ensure that the instrument is only stored and operated within the
specified operating conditions outlined in the Technical Specification. If the
instrument temperature lies outside the specified operating conditions, a
warning sign will appear.
WARNING! Only use the instrument within the specified operating
conditions. Using the instrument outside the specified operating conditions
may affect the accuracy of the measurements or damage the instrument.
This indicates an electronic failure. The instrument needs to be repaired.
WARNING! In the event of an internal error, do not continue using the
instrument. Contact a Proceq-certified service centre for service and repairs.
Do not open the housing of the instrument yourself. Any kind of repair shall
only be performed by a Proceq-certified service centre.
Reboot
In the unlikely event of a malfunction, you can force the instrument to reboot
by simultaneously pressing the keys. The instrument will turn off immediately.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Do not immerse the instrument in water or other fluids. Keep the housing and
the laser clean at all times. Wipe off contamination using a moist and soft
cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents or solvents. Regularly check the
functionality and accuracy of the instrument using the test plate (as outlined
under the functional test). If the instrument should fail despite the care
taken in manufacturing and testing procedures, repair or re-calibration should
be carried out only by a Proceq-certified service centre. Do not open the
housing of the instrument yourself.
WARNING! Any kind of repair shall only be performed by a Proceq-certified
service centre.
WARNING! The instrument must be calibrated regularly but no later than the due date. The due date is visible in the calibration certificate delivered with the instrument. If the instrument is exposed to heavy usage, a calibration before the due date might be required. A calibration is necessary particularly if the functional test shows a deviation exceeding ± 2.0 units [CQ]. If the due date has elapsed, the certificate of calibration loses its validity. Only use the instrument with a proper and valid calibration certificate.
