- To reduce the risk of death, personal injury or property damage from fire, electric shock, falling parts, cuts/abrasions, and other hazards please read all warnings and instructions included with and on the fixture box and all fixture labels.
- Before installing, servicing, or performing routine maintenance upon this equipment, follow these general precautions.
- Installation and service of luminaires should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
- Maintenance of the luminaires should be performed by person(s) familiar with the luminaires’ construction and operation and any hazards involved. Regular fixture maintenance programs are recommended.
- It will occasionally be necessary to clean the outside of the refractor/lens. Frequency of cleaning will depend on ambient dirt level and minimum light output which is acceptable to user. Refractor/lens should be washed in a solution of warm water and any mild, non-abrasive household detergent, rinsed with clean water and wiped dry. Should optical assembly become dirty on the inside, wipe refractor/lens and clean in above manner, replacing damaged gaskets as necessary.
- DO NOT INSTALL DAMAGED PRODUCT! This luminaire has been properly packed so that no parts should have been damaged during transit. Inspect to confirm. Any part damaged or broken during or after assembly should be replaced.

WARNING
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
- Disconnect or turn off power before installation or servicing.
- Verify that supply voltage is correct by comparing it with the luminaire label information.
- Make all electrical and grounded connections in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local code requirements.
- All wiring connections should be capped with UL approved recognized wire connectors.

- Never connect components under load.
- Do not mount or support these fixtures in a manner that can cut the outer jacket or damage wire insulation.
- Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Never connect an LED product directly to a dimmer packs, occupancy sensors, timing devices, or other related control devices. LED fixtures must be powered directly off a switched circuit.
- Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not restrict fixture ventilation. Allow for some volume of airspace around fixture. Avoid covering LED fixtures with insulation, foam, or other material that will prevent convection or conduction cooling.
- Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not exceed fixtures maximum ambient temperature.
- Only use fixture in its intended location.
- LED products are Polarity Sensitive. Ensure proper Polarity before installation.
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): ESD can damage LED fixtures. Personal grounding equipment must be worn during all installation or servicing of the unit.
- Do not touch individual electrical components as this can cause ESD, shorten lamp life, or alter performance.
- Some components inside the fixture may not be serviceable. In the unlikely event your unit may require service, stop using the unit immediately and contact an ABL representative for assistance.
- Always read the fixtures complete installation instructions prior to installation for any additional fixture specific warnings

DELIVERY: Upon receipt of fixture and accessories (packed separately), thoroughly inspect for any freight damage. All damage should be reported to the delivery carrier. Compare the catalog description listed on the packing slip with the fixture label on the inside of the housing to be sure you have received the correct merchandise. This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
- this device may not cause harmful interference, and
- this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation
DSX Luminaire optional mounting
Required Tool
- 9/16″ ratcheting wrench (socket or box)
- Torque wrench with 9/16″ shallow socket
- 9/64″ Allen Wrench
- Optional: 9/64″ Allen bit with driver
Use:
- Used to quickly snug luminaire mounting bolts
- Used for final torque of luminaire mounting bolts
- Used to remove mounting door screw
- For faster removal/install in lieu of Allen wrench
- 3. Place the luminaire onto the top bolt by passing the head and washer through the key slot (figure 3a) and lowering the luminaire down securely in place (figure 3b & 3c). Snug bolt but do not torque to spec until bottom bolt is installed.
WARNING: THE LUMINAIRE IS NOT COMPLETELY SECURED YET.
SPECIAL CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO AVOID JARRING THE LUMINAIRE FROM ITS RESTING POINT
- 5. After leveling fixture and ensuring no wires are pinched, tighten both hex bolts to the slide nut assembly with a 9/16” socket on a torque wrench (figure 4).
Torque Spec: 20-30 ft-lbs.
- 6. Insert the wires from the fixture through the center hole of the pattern on the pole, pulling them into the pole. Make all wiring connections via the supplied wire leads in accordance with NEC and local codes. Ensure that wires are not pinched or bound.
- 7. Make wire connections in the pole, observing proper voltage and polarity. Connect green ground wire from the fixture to the field ground wire. Secure wires, push back into pole, and replace pole cap.
- 8. Reinstall wire access cover using 9/64” hex bit by securing lip (figure 5a) to matching feature on door (figure 5b) and then hinging into place, tighten bolt (figure 5c). Torque Spec: 15-20 in-lbs.
For Adapters RPA and SPA8N
Mast Arm Adapter Bracket (MA)–Tenon/pole diameter: 2″ schedule 40 pipe (2-3/8″OD)

Slip luminaire Mast Arm Mount over 2-3/8” Ø pole tenon (figure 6a and 6b).
-
Use provided set screws and secure the mast arm mount in required position prior to drilling the thru hole. Ensure mast arm mount is fully seated and level.

Use thru-bolt hole provided as pilot and drill 1/2″ Ø hole on tenon through mast arm from both sides. Ensure no wires are at risk of being damaged by the drilling operation.

Loosen the set screws and remove the mast arm mount from the pole tenon.
-
Remove mounting compartment door from luminaire and install both 3/8”-16 x 2” mounting bolts/washers to secure fixture to mount as shown in figure 7.
Torque Spec: 20-30 ft-lbs. -
Complete wiring per NEC guidelines or local codes. Pull wires far enough out of tenon to allow for routing through center wire through-way hole in mast arm bracket and into luminaire splice/mounting box compartment.

With wires pulled through, reorient luminaire to desired position on the tenon.
Note: Be sure to not pinch or damage wires. Insert provided 7/16″-14 x 4-1/2″ bolt through the mast arm and the pre-drilled 1/2″ Ø hole on tenon. Place provided 7/16″ nut onto bolt (figure 8).
Torque Spec: 20-30 ft-lbs. -
Make wire connections in the luminaire mounting compartment observing proper voltage and polarity. Connect green ground wire from the fixture to the field ground wire. Secure wires, push back into pole, and insert fixture onto pole.

Reinstall wire access cover (figure 9).
Torque Spec: 15-20 in-lbs.
See standard fixture installation instructions above for procedure. -
Evenly tighten the six (6) 3/8-16 UNC Mast Arm Set Bolts.
Torque Spec: 10-12 ft-lbs. -
Energize the luminaire to verify its operation and proper illumination of area
Wall Mount Bracket (WBA)
-
CAUTION: APPLY A CONTINUOUS BEAD OF WEATHER–PROOF CAULKING BETWEEN MOUNTING BASE PLATE AND WALL TO ENSURE WEATHER–TIGHT INTEGRITY OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS.

Secure base plate to wall with (4) 1/4” diameter fasteners (by others) using the (4) holes located on the outer corners of the base plate oriented as shown with the embossed part number on the top (figure 10). Check the base plate to confirm that it is level and plumb in all directions.

Prepare the cover plate by verifying the factory installed gasket is in place on the backside of the cover plate (figure 11).
-
Orient the curved portion of the cover plate should point upwards when mounted to the wall (figure 12).
-
Open the luminaire carton and locate the 2″ long, 3/8” diameter bolts (2) and the threaded steel bar from the wall bracket kit (figure 13).
-
On the underneath side of the luminaire, remove the wire access cover and set aside for reinstallation (figure 14).
-
Insert the 3/8” bolts through the back wall of the luminaire arm, through the cover plate, and then thread into the threaded steel bar, simultaneously pulling the wires through the center hole. The luminaire is supplied with a clearance slot in the back to allow wires to be pulled into the WBA cover plate (figure 15). Tighten the two bolts with a 9/16” hex socket.
Torque Spec: 20-30 ft-lbs. -
Make sure that wires are not pinched and tuck excess wire up into the luminaire mounting area. Reinstall the wire access cover from step 7 (figure 14), and tighten the captive screws with the 9/64 Allen wrench.
Torque Spec: 15-20 in-lbs. -
Make all wiring connections via the supplied wire leads in accordance with NEC and local codes.

Place the entire luminaire/cover plate assembly onto the base plate (figure 15) and have someone tighten the top (2) 3/8” x 1-1/4” stainless steel recessed hex set screws (figure 13) until 3/8” to 1/4” of the screw threads are still visible.

Now tighten the bottom (2) 3/8” x 1-1/4” stainless steel recessed hex set screws until 3/8” to 1/4” of the screw threads are still visible.

Now alternating between the top two and bottom two set screws, gently tighten until snug (approximately one thread will remain showing on each screw). Torque Spec: 10-12 ft-lbs.
House-side Shield (HS) Installation
Tools driver/bit required: T15 TORX
-
Remove and discard the T15 TORX screws holding the light engine to the fixture as shown in Figure 1. Hold the light engine securely in place during the next step.

Place a House-side Shield over the frame on the light engine and align the holes on the shield with the holes on the light engine.
-
If the fixture has light engines with 2 rows of LEDs, also referred to as a 20-LED light engine, the house-side shield may need to be broken along the scored line in the field before mounting as shown in Figure 2. Bend repeatedly along line to separate. Discard the smaller panel.

Assemble the shield to the light engine using the supplied screws. Fixtures with 20-LED light engines will use 6 screws per light engine, fixtures with 30-LED light engines will use 8.
Torque screws to 8-15 in-lbs. -
Repeat steps 1-3 as needed.
External Glare Shield-Reversible (EGSR) installation
Tools required: Phillips #2 screwdriver

Remove and discard the four existing screws as shown in figure 1 from the sheet metal skirt surrounding the light engines.

Reference Figures 2 and 3 to determine orientation of External Glare shield.
Figure 2: blocks forward glare. Figure 3: blocks rearward glare. -
Place an EGSR on the light engine, aligning the holes in the EGSR with the holes in the sheet metal skirt. (figure 1)

Attach the shield to the light engine using the supplied screws. Torque Spec: 15-20 in-lbs
Bird Spike Deterrent-Bracketed (BSDB) Installation
Tools required: marker pen, #32 drill bit (or equivalent), drill, ¼ hex driver, side cutters.

Place bird spike bracket on fixture. Use marker to mark holes for screws through bird spike bracket (figure 1). Hole placement is crucial

See figure 2 (DSX0), figure 3 (DSX1), and figure 4 (DSX2), on the next page, for approximate hole placement, shown with red circles. The rearmost hole must conform to the below table to ensure the sealed compartment is not compromised. Measure hole placement from mounting side surface to ensure hole placement is closer to mounting side surface than the given dimension

Predrill screw holes with a #32 drill bit (or equivalent) completely through the casting (figure 1)
CAUTION: Hole placement is crucial. Failure to properly drill holes will cause premature fixture failure and will void warranty. -
Fasten bird spike bracket to luminaire housing with included screws (figure 1).

Fasten bird spike strips (figure 5) to bird spike bracket using included screws. Trim excess bird spikes by cutting plastic strip between spikes with side cutters
