INSTRUCTION MANUAL
INTRODUCTION
- The KW520 Wattmeter – SWR meter is the most efficient tool in the wide range of semi- professional measuring and control instruments. The measured values can be easily read in the large-scale instruments.
- The KW520 is an insertion type RF wattmeter, and may be permanently fitted into a transmission system for continues monitoring of the station working conditions. The unit operates with 13,8 Vdc power supply, which permits to light up the instrument and shows the active led corresponding to the selected RF coaxial line.
- The KW520 may also operate without external power supply, thus being suitable for use even with hand-held equipment (in this case, the unit will not be lighted up, and the selected RF coaxial line will not be shown. KW 520 makes possible reading power over different end-scale values thus increasing accuracy and making readings easier.
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS
- Working frequency 1,8 +200 / 140 ÷ 525 MHz : Catters impedance 50 Ohm 4 power scale: 5/ 20/200/400 W end scale
- SW Rmeter section: Switchable direct and reflected output power readings, fine adjustment thanks to potentiometer.
- Red line from 3 to c. (infinity) meaning danger for the transmitter.
DESCRIPTION OF CONTROLS
- Power /SWR reading meter
- Indicator adjustment
- End-scale wattmeter switch
- Function switch :power, calibration, SWR
- Direct (FWD)/reflected (REF) power switch / OFF
- SWR calibration potentiometer
- Average pep to pep switch
- Led Sensor 1
- Led Sensor 2
- End-scale voltage double (push it to select 200/400 W end scale)
- Antenna connectors (connect to the antenna with 50 Ohm coaxial cable)
- TX connectors ( connect to the radio with 50 Ohm coaxial cable)
- – Sensor 1 – Sensor 2 switch
- Power jack to light up the unit and the HE / VHF . VHF / UHF leds
INSTALLATION
To install KW520 simply connect coaxial cable directed to the antenna to the connector marked “ANT, and the cable coming from the transmitter or from the linear amplifier to the connector marked “TX” (of course, the two connectors corresponding to the desired frequency will be connected). KW520 is now ready to operate.
POWER MEASUREMENTS
- Select the RANGE (3) switch on the end- scale position value as to the power of the unit.
- Select the FUN- CTION (4) switch in the POWER position.
- Select the POWER (5) switch in the REF position to measure the reflected power (from the antenna to the radio); or in FWD position to measure the direct power (from the radio to the antenna).
- The selected power value can be read on the corresponding scale.
SWR MEASUREMENTS
- Select the RANGE (3) switch on the end- scale position value as to the power of the
- Select the FUNCTION (4) switch in the CAL position.
- Let the radio transmit and adjust the instrument by turning the CAL knob, position the end-scale index in the CAL position
- Select the FUNCTION (4) switch in the SWR position
- Read the SWR value in the above scale.
WARNING
- For Wattmeter – SWRmeter KW520 proper operation carefully stick to the following recommendations: avoid sudden impacts which might cause damage to the instrument. Do not use the instrument to measure higher power values than permissible. Do not carry out measurements without output load.
- To perform accurate measurements make sure that you are using the instrument to obtain the highest degree of accuracy i.e. by measuring as close as possible to the end-scale value.
