Tips before the installation
The rear mud guards installation requires to drill a hole in the bumper for
optimal rigidity.
If you prefer not drilling the bumper, you can use the supplided double sided
tape instead.
Make sure to properly clean and prepare the surface. The 3M VHB tape requires
to sit for 24h for superior bonding.
A. Jack you car up so you can remove the rear wheel and gain access to
thebumper bolt.
B. Using alcohol or a good degreaser agent, thoroughly clean the bumper inner
lip with a clean cloth. This step is crucial for good adhesion of the 3M VHB
tape.
A. Grab the rear mud flap (FX3D logo should be facing the rear of the car).
B. Put the factory screw through the hole that corresponds to the car chassis.
AP1 for 2000-03 AP2 for 2004-09
C. Screw it back on the bumper but don’t tighten it all the way to allow for
later adjustment. The mud flap should be able to rotate freely
A. Rotate the mud guard roughly into position and mark the spot where the
lower hole aligns with the bumper.
B. Grab one of the supplied spring u-nuts(D) and slightly pry it open to
facilitate the installation and avoid scratching the paint.
B. Slide the u-nut on the bumper inner lip (flat side towards the front)
making sure it lines up with the lower hole of the mud guard.
C. Grab one strip of the supplied 3M VHB double sided tape(E). Cut the tape
and place a strip above the u-nut and one under it. Heating the bumper with a
heat gun prior to installing the tap will improve adhesion.
D. Make sure that the side of the mud guard that will be in contact with the
double sided tape is clean. You can use the same degreasing agent used for the
bumper.
A. Double check the alignement of the mud flap and u-nut hole. Slightly move
the mud guard from left to right and decide on its final positionning.
B. Remove the tape red backing. Make sure not to touch the tape with the mud
guard until you are certain on the final position.
C. Grab one of the supplied self tapping screw(C) and place it in the lower
hole making sure it’s aligned with the u-nut.
Use a drill or screwdriver to tap it into place. Don’t over tighten.
D. Apply some pressure against the mud flap to make sure the tape adheres
properly to both the bumper and flap.
E. Fully tighten the upper screw
