Please read this instruction manual carefully before connecting and operating the product, and keep it for future reference.
DAB+ digital/FM radio
Thank you for purchasing this DAB+ digital/FM radio. Please read the instructions and warnings carefully before use to ensure safe and satisfactory operation of this product.
Important safety information
- Read this Instruction Manual before you attempt to connect or operate the appliance.
- Keep these instructions in good condition. Heed all warnings. Follow all instructions.
- Save this Instruction Manual for future reference.
- The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed near the product. Dry location use only.
- No naked flame source, such as candles, should be placed on the product.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings.
- Ensure that the supplied AC adaptor is plugged into an AC 1 00V-240V~50/60Hz power outlet. Using higher voltage may cause the unit to malfunction or even fire catching. Turn off the unit before unplugging it from power source to completely switch it off.
- Do not plug/ unplug the power adaptor into/ from an electrical outlet with wet hands.
- Do not clean the unit with chemical agents.
- Only use attachments/ accessories, which are specified by the manufacturer.
- Use replacement parts, which are specified by the manufacturer.
- Install the unit in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Place the unit where there is good ventilation. Place the system on a flat, hard and stable surface. Do not expose to temperatures above 40″C.
- Press the player’s buttons gently. Pressing them too hard can damage the player.
- Dispose of used batteries in an environmental-responsible manner.
- Always ensure that the product is unplugged from the electrical outlet before moving or cleaning. Clean it with dry cloth only.
- Unplug the product during lightning, storms or when it will not be used for long periods of time.
- This product has no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to repair this product yourself. Only qualified service personnel should perform servicing. Take the product to the electronics repair shop of your choice for inspection and repair.
- NEVER let anyone, especially children, push anything into holes, slots or any other openings in the unit’s casing as this could result in a fatal electric shock.
- Do not place the unit near TVs, speakers and other objects that generate strong magnetic fields.
- This unit is for indoor use only, non-industrial, non-commercial use.
- Do not leave the unit unattended when it is in use.
- Do not listen to the radio at very high volume level using the earphones as this can permanently damage your hearing.
- Ensure that your earphones are inserted into the product before it is switched on. Inserting them afterwards can potentially damage the earphones and the product.
- Keep “Earbud” earphones out of reach of small children. “Earbud” earphones may be swallowed if placed in the mouth.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Setting up
Mains power
To run the radio from mains power follow the below instructions.
- Connect the DC mains plug to the DC mains input socket on the rear of the unit.
- Connect the plug of the adaptor to a mains outlet and switch on.
_ Note: _The DAB+ radio station list is stored in the memory and so the next time you switch your radio on, the station search does not take place.
Battery operation
Follow the below steps to install 4 xAA batteries.
- Unclip the battery cover in the direction indicated on the cover.
- Insert 4 xAA batteries in the sequence shown, observing polarity. The correct direction each battery needs to be installed is indicated inside the battery compartment.
- Refit the battery cover
_ Note: _To run the radio on battery power you will need to switch off and disconnect the mains cable if connected.
Standby & power off mode
- Press and hold the Power/Mode button for 1 second to put the system into standby mode. The date and time are displayed during standby.
- When in standby mode press and hold the Power/Mode button for 1 second again to enter power off mode. You can use this mode to save battery power or when not using the unit for a long time.
- To resume normal operation press the Power/Mode button.
Note: This unit is designe stations are located. Press the Power/Mode button to wake the unit. to enter STANDBY mode automatically after 15 MINUTES (approxinely) if no
Adjusting the volume
- Rotate the Select-Volume+ control to increase or decrease the volume level.
USING YOUR DAB+ RADIO
- Press the Power/Mode button to switch to DAB+ mode. The display will show ‘DAB.
Tuning the DAB+ stations
- To listen to the stored DAB+ stations use either Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the stations.
- Your radio will tune to the displayed station and begin to play.
Note: If when the unit was switched on, no stations where found, or no DAB+ stations can be received currently [No DAB station] will be displayed. See the quick or full scan sections.
Scanning for DAB+ stations
- In DAB+ mode, press and release the Scan button to carry out a scan. ‘Scanning … will be displayed and a progress bar will show the progress of the scan and the number of stations found during the scan will also be displayed.
- You can also press and hold the Menu button and press the Prev. or Next button in the front of the radio till it shows ‘Full Scan’ and press Select/-Volume+knob to run a full scan. The display will change to ‘Scanning… A progress bar will show the progress of the scan and the number of stations found during the scan will also be displayed.
Prune Function
You can remove the DAB+ stations in the station list that cannot be received in your area. These are listed with a ‘Prune? prefix.
- Press and hold the Menu button and use the Prev. or Next button to scroll to ‘Prune?’. Press the Select-Volume+ knob to select.
- ‘Prune?
No’ is displayed. Use the Prev. or Next button to scroll to Yes’. Press the rotary control to Select-Volume+ and prune the station list. Stations with a ‘Prune? prefix will now no longer be displayed. Then the unit will turn back to DAB+ stations automatically.
Storing a DAB+ station preset
Your radio can store up to 10 DAB+ stations in its preset memories for instant access to your favorite stations.
Note: When you store DAB+ radio station presets, these do not overwrite your FM station presets.
- Tune your radio to the station that you wish to preset.
- Press and hold the Preset button in the front of your radio. Preset Store <1:(Empty)>” is displayed. And the Number is flashing. Or ‘Empty’ if no previous station has been stored.
- Use the Prev. or Next button to move to preset location that you would like to store the radio station to (1-10).
- Press and release the Select/-Volume+ knob to confirm your selection. The display will confirm ‘Preset X stored’, where X’ is the number of the preset (1-10).
Note: If there is already an existing DAB+ station stored under a preset, it will be overwritten when you store the new station.
Tune to a DAB+ preset station
In DAB+ mode
- Press and release the Preset button. ‘Preset Recall <1:>’is displayed and the name or frequency of the station stored there, or ‘Empty’ if no previous station has been stored.
- Press the Prev. or Next button to scroll to the Preset location and station that you would like to listen to (1-10). Press the Select/-Volume+ knob, the radio will instantly tune to that station and begin to play.
Note: If no DAB+ station has been stored under the preset button, ‘Preset Empty’ will be displayed, then the radio will revert to the previously selected radio station after a few seconds.
DAB+ display information
- When listening to a DAB+ station you can change the information that will appear on the second line of the display. There are several different types of information that are sent by the broadcaster.
- Press the Menu button in the front of the radio to cycle through the different information options.
Dynamic Label Segment (DLS)
This is scrolling text information supplied by the broadcaster
- Signal Strength – An empty will appear on the second line of the display to indicate the minimum signal strength for acceptable listening. The row of solid rectangles indicates the actual signal strength that you are receiving. The stronger the signal, the further to the right the row of solid rectangles will be.
- Program Type (PTY) – such as ‘Rock’, Pop’, Talk’ or ‘News’
- Multiplex Name – displays the broadcasting area and collection of radio stations on this frequency e.g.: BBC National DAB+, Digital 1 Network.
- Channel and Frequency e.g.: 12B 225.648 MHz
- Signal error This is displayed as a number between 0-99.
- Note: It would not be possible to satisfactorily listen to a ratio station with a signal error rate of 30 or above. Try adjusting the aerial or relocating your radio to improve reception.
- Signal information- The data rate at which the signal is being transmitted.
- Time and date Displays the current time and current date.
DCR (Dynamic range control)
This causes the radio to reduce the dynamic range of the audio signal. The purpose of this is to adapt the dynamic range of the audio signal to listening in a noisy environment.
NOTE: This is not available on many DAB+ stations.
- In DAB+ mode, press and hold the Menu button.
- When the ‘Full Scan’ option appears press either Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the menu options until you locate ‘DRC. Press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards to select.
- Choose between DRC off, DRC Low and DRC High, using the Prev. or Next buttons.
- DRC Off: no compression. This is the default setting.
- DRC Low: medium compression
- DRC High: maximum compression
- Press the Select-Volume+ control inwards to select.
USING YOUR FM RADIO
- Press the Power/Mode button (if in DAB mode) to switch to FM mode. The display will show ‘FM.
Tuning an FM station
- Extend the telescopic antenna.
- Press and hold either Prev. or Next button to scan up or down the frequency range. When a station is found the scan will stop and play the located station.
- You can fine tune the frequency by pressing either Prev. or Next button to advance 0,05MHz with each press.
Scanning for FM stations
This function allows you to tailor which stations will be detected when performing a scan.
- In FM mode, press and hold the Menu button.
- When the ‘Scan setting’ option appears, press Select-Volume+ knob to inwards to select. The current Scan setting will have an ” in the top right of the display.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to select from ‘Strong stations only’ or ‘All stations’. Strong stations only will only stop at stations with a strong signal. All stations will stop at any station found with a strong or weak signal.
- Press the Select-Volume+ control inwards to activate the setting.
Audio mode (STEREO/MONO)
Denotes if the broadcast is in Stereo or Mono. To specify that a station can be only played in mono or that stereo is allowed.
- Press and hold the Menu button.
- When the ‘Scan Setting’ option appears press either Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the menu options until you locate Audio Setting’, Press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards to select.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the two options ‘Forced Mono’ or ‘Stereo Allowed’. Press Select to select.
Stereo allowed: Means any station broadcast in stereo with a strong
enough signal will be played in stereo.
Mono only: Plays ALL stations in mono regardless of the availability of a
stereo signal.
Storing an FM station preset
It is possible to store up to 10 of your favorite FM stations. This will enable you to access your favorite stations quickly& easily.
- To store a preset, you must first be listening to the station that you would like to save.
- Press and hold the Preset button for 1 second. The LCD will then show the ‘Preset Store < 1: (Empty)» is displayed.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to choose the preset number from 1-10 you wish to use. Then press the Select/-Volume+ control to store the preset. The LCD will then show ‘Preset 1 Stored’.
_ Note: _If there is already an existing FM station stored under a preset, it will be over written when you store the new station.
Recalling FM station presets
You can recall the preset stations list by pressing the Preset button. Preset Recall 1′ is displayed and the name or frequency of the station stored there, or ‘Empty’ if no previous station has been stored. Then use the Prev. or Next buttons to select the preset. Once selected press the Select/-Volume+ control to activate.
_ Note: _If you choose a preset that hasn’t been allocated a station, then Preset Empty’ will be displayed.
FM display information
When listening to an FM station you can change the information that will appear on the second line of the display.
- Radio Text Displays scrolling text broadcast by the station (only if broadcast).
- Program type – This describes the “Style” or “genre” of music that is being broadcast e.g. “Rock” or “Classical”.
- Programme Name Station name (if broadcast). Frequency of the station if no name is broadcast.
- Audio Mode – Displays stereo or mono depending on the broadcast being received.
- Time/ Date Displays the current time and current date.
SET TIME/DATE
Should you need to set the time & date manually follow the below steps.
- Press and hold the Menu button.
- When the ‘Full Scan’ (DAB) or ‘Scan Setting’ (FM) option appears press either Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the menu options until you locate ‘System’. Press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards to select.
- When the Time’ option appears press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards.
- Inside the Time’ menu there are several options. ‘Set Time/Date’, Auto Update’, ‘Set 12/24 Hour’ & Set Date Format.
- Set 12/24 Hour: Use the Prev. or Next buttons to select 12 or 24 hour and then press the Select/-Volume+ control to activate.
- Set Time/Date: When activated the Hour digit flashes, use the Prev. or Next buttons to set the digit to the correct hour then press the Select/-Volume+ control, repeat the same process for the minute digits, again pressing the Select/-Volume+ control when set. The process for setting the date is exactly the same as the above. Press the Select/-Volume+ control to finalise the setting once complete.
- Auto Update: Use the Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the various options for auto setting the time & date. These range from: ‘Update from any’, ‘Update from DAB+, ‘Update from FM’ and ‘No update’. Press the Select/-Volume+ control to store the setting.
- Set Date Format: Use the Prev. or Next buttons to cycle between DD-MM-YYYY or MM-DDYYYY. Press the Select/-Volume-+ control button to store the setting.
Note: When the power is switched OFF (not standby) the settings will be lost.
FACTORY RESET
To reset the radio to the factory settings follow the next steps.
- Press and hold the Menu button.
- When the Full Scan’ (DAB+) or ‘Scan Setting’ (FM) option appears, press either Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the menu options until you locate System’. Press the Volume/-Select+ control inwards to select.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to find the Factory Reset’ option and press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards to select.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons once more to select ‘Yes’ and press the Select-Volume+ control inwards to select.
- The LCD will show ‘Restarting…, after a few seconds the display will change to ‘Welcome to Digital Radio’ and then ‘Scanning… whilst it scans for DAB+/FM stations. The unit will restart with default settings.
Note: performing a factory reset will remove any presets stored in both DAB+ and FM.
SET LANGUAGE
Follow the instructions below to select a different Ul language.
- Press and hold the Menu button.
- When the ‘Full Scan’ (DAB+) or ‘Scan Setting’ (FM) option appears press either Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the menu options until you locate ‘System’. Press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards to select.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to locate the ‘Language’ option and press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to cyc Deutsch, Italiano & Norsk.
- Press the Select-Volume+ control button to store the setting. through the various language options of: English, Français.
BACKLIGHT SETTINGS
Follow the below instructions to select the backlight menu. The sections after explain each setting.
- Press and hold the Menu button.
- When the ‘Full Scan’ (DAB) or ‘Scan Setting’ (FM) option appears press either Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through the menu options until you locate ‘System. Press the Select/-Volume+control inwards to select
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to locate the ‘Backlight’ option and press the Select-Volume+ control inwards.
- Timeout
- 1-3 steps
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to locate the Timeout’ option and press the Select-Volume+ control inwards.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through options 10-180 seconds.
- Press the Select/-Volume+ control button to store the setting.
- 1-3 steps
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to locate the On level’ option and press the Select/-Volume+ control inwards.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through Low or High.
- Press the Select-Volume+ control button to store the setting.
- Dim level
- 1-3 steps
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to locate the ‘Dim level’ option and press the Select-/Volume+ control inwards.
- Use the Prev. or Next buttons to cycle through Low or High.
- Press the Select-Volume+ control button to store the setting.
SOFTWARE VERSION
- In FM mode, press and hold the Menu button. Use the Prev. or Next button to scroll to ‘System’ and press the Volume/-Select+ control button to select SW version’, then the software version will be displayed on LCD.
- Continue to press and release the Menu button to step back through the menu and return to the station display.
Instructions for earphone usage
Connect a pair of earphones with a 3 5mm back into the EARPHONE socket on the unit. To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.
If you hear no sound during playback, do not turn the volume up as the music may suddenly begin at a high volume. Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. To avoid damaging your ears, adjust the volume to the lowest safe level before playing, and turn up to the desired level when playback has started.

CARE AND CLEANING
- 1.All care and cleaning operations should be carried out with the unit unplugged from the mains power.
- Occasionally wipe the cabinet with a lint free duster. Never clean the unit with liquids or solvents.
