SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING!
Read all warnings, safety instructions and other instructions carefully before use. Failure to follow all the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury. Save these instructions and safety instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in all the warnings below refers to mains-powered (corded) or battery powered (cordless) power tools.

WORK AREA

• Keep the work area clean and well lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries.
• Do not use the power tool in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
• Keep children and onlookers at a safe distance when using the power tool. You can easily lose control of the power tool if you are distracted.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

• Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
• Do not expose the power tool to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. There is a greater risk of electric shock if water gets into a power tool.

PERSONAL SAFETY

• Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with the power tool. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention when using a power tool can result in serious personal injury.
• Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmet and ear protection, depending on the type of power tool and usage.
• Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is in the off position before inserting the battery or lifting/carrying the tool. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch, or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the on position, increases the risk of accidents.
• Always check that Allen keys/spanners etc. have been removed from the power tool before it is started. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the power tool can cause personal injury.
• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This will ensure you have better control over the tool in unexpected situations.
• Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.

USE AND CARE

• Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The power tool does the job better and safer when used at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if it cannot be started and stopped with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.
• Remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories or putting the power tool away. These safety precautions reduce the risk of accidentally starting the power tool.
• Store power tools out of the reach of children when not in use. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced people.
• Keep the power tool properly maintained. Check that moving parts are properly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If the power tool is damaged, it must be repaired before being used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories, etc. in accordance with these instructions. Pay attention to the actual working conditions and the job to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those for which they are intended to be used.

BATTERY

• Only charge the battery with the intended charger. A charger intended for one type of battery can result in a fire risk if used with another type of battery.
• Only use power tools with the specified batteries. The use of other batteries can cause personal injury or the risk of fire.
• When the battery is not in use keep it away from metal objects like paperclips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other metal objects that can short circuit the terminals. Short circuiting can damage the battery or cause personal injury, burns and/or fire.
• Acid can leak from the battery if the battery has been damaged. Avoid contact with battery fluid. If you get battery fluid on your skin, rinse immediately in plenty of fresh water. Seek medical attention if you get battery fluid in your eyes. Battery fluid can cause skin irritation and/or burns.

SERVICE

The power tool must only be serviced by qualified service personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.

SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• Keep your hands and the rest of your body away from the chain when the product is running. Check that the chain is not touching the ground or an object when starting the product. A moment of inattention or carelessness can result in serious personal injury.
• Hold the back handle in your right hand and the front handle in your left hand, even if you are left-handed. Never hold the product in any other way – risk of personal injury.
• Hold the product by the insulated grips when working in areas where it may come into contact with concealed electrical cables or its own power cord. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the product to also become live – risk of electric shock.
• Wear safety glasses and ear protection. A safety helmet with visor, safety gloves and non-slip safety shoes with protection for the lower part of the leg are recommended. The proper protective equipment reduces the risk of personal injury in the event of contact with the chain or ejected material.
• Never use the product from a ladder, tree or other unstable place. This could cause you to lose your balance or lose control of the product.
• Branches under tension can spring away when they are cut and cause personal injury and/or cause you to lose control of the product.
• Be careful when sawing bushes. The thin stems can fasten in the chain and hit you or cause you to lose your balance.
• Switch off the product and take out the battery before moving. Carry the product with the front handle and with the bar pointing away from your body. Transport and store the product with the supplied guard fitted. Using the appliance properly reduces the risk of coming into contact with the chain.
• Follow the instructions for lubrication, tensioning the chain, and replacing accessories. The wrong tension and/or lubrication of the chain can result in a risk of the chain breaking and/or kickback.
• Keep the handles clean, dry and free from oil and grease. Greasy handles make it difficult to hold the product– risk of personal injury and/or material damage.
• Only use the product to saw wood. Use the product only for its intended purpose. Do not attempt to saw plastic, bricks or building materials not made of wood. Incorrect use can result in the risk of personal injury and/or material damage.

CAUSES OF KICKBACK AND WAYS TO PREVENT IT

• Kickback can occur if the tip or topside of the bar comes into contact with wood or other solid objects, or if the chain jams in the cut.
• The product then kicks up and back with great force, which can cause serious personal injury, or death.
• If the chain fastens along the top of the bar, this can cause the saw to be pressed back towards the user. This can also result in serious personal injury or death. Do not rely on the safety mechanisms on the product. The correct and careful way of working is the only reliable method of reducing the risk of kickback.
• Kickback occurs when the product is used incorrectly and/or with the wrong work methods or in the wrong conditions, and can be avoided as follows.
  • Hold the product firmly with both hands and hold your arms in a position that prevents kickback. Kickback can cause the product to jerk backwards, but the user can control this by taking the appropriate measures. Keep a firm grip on the handles with both hands.
  • Do not overreach. This ensures better control over the product in unexpected situations.
  • Only use accessories recommended by the manufacturer. The use of other accessories can cause the chain to break/or kickback.
  • Follow the instructions to maintain the product and sharpen the chain. A worn or incorrectly sharpened chain increases the risk of kickback.

HOW TO USE

• Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance.
• If possible, avoid working on wet and slippery surfaces and under all circumstances on uneven or steep terrain that does not provide sufficient stability.
• Never run with the power tool. Pay attention to the surface and watch out for obstacles.
• Make an assessment of the terrain to be worked on and take all necessary precautions for your own safety, especially on slopes or on uneven, slippery or unstable ground.
• There may be local regulations for the minimum age of persons allowed to use the machine.
• The power tool must only be used by one person at a time.
• Do not use the power tool if, while working, you cannot hold it with both hands or cannot stand firmly on both feet. Never allow children, or anyone who is unfamiliar with the power tool and these instructions, to use the tool.
• Do not use the power tool when other persons, especially children, or pets, are in the vicinity.
• Never use the power tool if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
• Do not use the power tool unless all the safety devices are correctly fitted and working.
• Always follow all the safety instructions and use the cutting technique that is most appropriate.
• Only use the power tool for its intended purpose. Any other usage can be dangerous and result in serious damage to the tool.
• Only use the power tool in daylight, or in good artificial lighting.

REDUCTION OF NOISE AND VIBRATIONS

• To reduce noise and vibrations when in use, limit the time the product is used, and use low-power/vibration and noise mode and suitable safety equipment.
• Take the following precautions to minimise the risks of exposure to vibrations and/or noise:
  • Only use the product in accordance with these instructions.
  • Make sure that the product is in good condition.
  • Use sharp accessories in good condition and suitable for the purpose.
  • Keep a firm grip on the handles/ grips.
  • Maintain and lubricate the product in accordance with these instructions.
  • Plan the work so that exposure to heavy vibrations is spread over several days.

REMAINING RISKS

• Even if appropriate safety regulations are adhered to and safety devices are used, it is not possible to eliminate all risks.
  The following risks remain.

  • Vibration injuries (if the product is used for long periods, or is not handled and maintained correctly).
  • Personal injury and/or material damage as a result of defective accessories, or kickback resulting from concealed objects.
  • Personal injury and/or material damage as a result of falling or ejected objects.
  • During prolonged use the vibrations can cause circulation problems in the hands. Keep your body and especially your hands warm. Wear gloves. Stop working immediately and seek medical attention if you experience numbness, itching, tingling, pain, if your skin changes colour, or loss of sensitivity in your fingers, hands or wrists. You are more at risk at low temperatures.

WARNING!
The product produces an electromagnetic field when in use. This field can in some circumstances affect active or passive medical implants. If you have a medical implant you should consult your doctor and/or the manufacturer of the medical implant before using the product to reduce the risk of serious or fatal personal injury.

The declared vibration value, which has been measured by a standardised test method, can be used to compare different tools with each other and for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The measurement values have been determined in accordance with
EN 60745-2-15:2009, EN ISO 11680-1:2011,
EN ISO 10517:2009.

WARNING!
The actual vibration level when using power tools may differ from the specified maximum value, depending on how the tool is used. It is therefore necessary to determine which safety precautions are required to protect the user, based on an estimate of exposure in actual operating conditions (taking into account all stages of the work cycle, e.g. the time when the tool is switched off and when it is idling, in addition to the start-up time).

ASSEMBLY

INSERTION AND REMOVAL OF BATTERY

1. Put in the battery by fitting it in the battery compartment and pushing it until it clicks in place.
2. Remove the battery by pressing the battery catch and pulling out the battery from the compartment at the same time.

Before the extension tube can be fitted it is necessary to remove the machine head from the handle. Place the handle part with the machine head on a level and stable surface, release the coupling and remove the machine head.

FITTING AND REMOVING THE CHAIN

Even a stationary saw chain can cause cut injuries – always wear safety gloves when handling chains.

1. Place the product on a stable workbench or other similar stable surface.
2. Undo the mounting nut (1) and remove it.
3. Remove the chain cover (2).
4. Turn the screw (7) anticlockwise to pull the bar (3) backwards and thereby slacken the chain (4).
5. Lift off the old chain from the chain sprocket (5) and the bar (3).
6. Fit the new chain on the sprocket and in the chain slot in the bar. Check that the chain has the correct direction of rotation
   • the arrows on the chain and sprocket housing must correspond.
7. Check that the recess (6) is correctly aligned on the retaining pin and that the hole is correctly fitted over the adjuster pin.
8. Replace the chain cover.
9. Tighten the nut.
10. Adjust the correct chain tension.

CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE TENSION OF THE CHAIN

Check

The chain is correctly tensioned when it can be lifted a few millimetres from the bar, and is flush without sagging along all of the underside of the bar.

Setting

1. Undo the lock nut.
2. Turn the screw clockwise.
3. Tighten the lock nut when the chain is correctly tensioned.

IMPORTANT:

• Do not overtension the chain. If the chain is overtensioned this results in excessive wear and reduces the life span of both the chain and bar.
• A new chain stretches when being run in – check the tension at regular intervals.

INCREASING THE LENGTH OF THE HANDLE

The reach of the product can be increased by fitting an extension tube between the machine head and the handle.

1. Align the slots on the outside of the coupling on the handle and on the inside of the coupling on the extension tube with each other.
2. Push the extension tube onto the handle.
3. Push up the coupling sleeve and turn it clockwise until it is firmly tightened.
4. Align the slots on the outside of the coupling on the extension tube and on the inside of the coupling on the machine head with each other.
5. Push the machine head onto the extension tube.
6. Push down the coupling sleeve and turn it clockwise until it is firmly tightened.

WARNING!
Check at regular intervals that the extension couplings are well tightened and have not begun to unscrew.

SHOULDER STRAP

You must be able to quickly remove the shoulder strap from the product in an emergency. Follow the instructions below to familiarise yourself with the quick release of the strap clip before starting to work.

1. Put the shoulder strap round your left shoulder.
2. Fasten the snap hook in the strap attachment on the product.
3. Hold the product firmly with one hand and press both sides of the strap clip to uncouple the shoulder strap.

WARNING!
Risk of personal injury. If the shoulder strap cannot be quickly released properly during an accident this can result in serious personal injury.

USE

INTENDED USE

The pruning saw is only intended for pruning trees, with the user standing on the ground and only in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer. The pruning saw must only be used where there is enough free space round the tree to be pruned. All other use is considered to be unsuitable. The pruning saw must not be used as crosscut saw for cutting branches with a diameter larger than the length of the bar. The pruning saw is only intended for use in private gardens.

CHARGING THE BATTERY

The battery must be charged before using for the first time, after which it must be charged as soon as the performance of the product is reduced. The battery can get hot when charging. This is quite normal.

1. To charge the battery, remove it from the product and put it in the charger.
2. Fit the battery carefully in the charger – do not use force. There is only one way the battery fits in the charger.
3. Check that the battery is correctly inserted in the charger.
4. Plug the charger into a power point and put the power switch on the charger in the ON position.

IMPORTANT:
The recommended battery temperature when charging is 24°C and the permissible temperature is 0 to 40°C. If the temperature of the battery cells is below or over the permissible temperature range the charger will not charge the battery.

BEFORE STARTING THE PRODUCT

1. Put the battery in the battery compartment.
2. Remove the guard.
3. Make sure that the blade is not touching anything.

1. To reduce the risk of accidental starting the power switch has a start inhibitor. Press back the start inhibitor with your thumb and press the power switch at the same time.
2. Release the start inhibitor.
3. Release the power switch to switch off.

WARNING!

• Both switches must be activated to start and run the product. The product switches off if one of the two switches is released.
• Release the switch immediately if the bar is blocked during work, or if the product gets caught among the branches.
• Never attempt to lock either switch in the ON position.

PRUNING

1. Allow the chain to reach full speed before starting to cut the branch.
2. Keep a firm grip on the product to counter kickback and lateral movement.
3. Apply the chain against the branch with a slight pressure. When sawing thicker branches the wood can splinter and break before the branch is fully sawn. Follow the instructions below to avoid splintering and get smooth cuts.
4. Make a cut with the top edge of the bar on the bottom side of the branch, about 15 cm from the trunk and about one third of the thickness of the branch.
5. Now cut the remaining two thirds of the branch from above.

Adjust the required angle of the machine head by pressing in the catch and adjusting the machine head to the required position.

MAINTENANCE

IMPORTANT:

• Remove the battery from the product before cleaning and maintenance. Unplug the charger from the power point before cleaning.
• Always wear safety gloves during maintenance and service – the chain is sharp.
• Regular cleaning and some simple maintenance is necessary to ensure problem-free functionality and long useful life.
• Empty the chain oil reservoir. Remove the chain and bar (wear safety gloves), and clean and lubricate them lightly with oil. Store the cleaned and lubricated product in a dry place out of the reach of children. If the product is stored with the bar fitted, put the guard on. After prolonged storage the product should be checked by an authorised service centre before use, in that oil residue can have hardened and the oil pump valve could be blocked.
• Measures after each use:
  • The bar should be cleaned and lightly lubricated with oil after use.
  • Clean the ventilation openings on the product with a soft brush or dry cloth.
  • The product can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use detergent that contains solvents or corrosive or abrasive additives – risk of damaging the surface of the product.
  • Remove solid deposits with a hard brush.
  • Check that all the switches are unobstructed.
  • Remove the chain cover at regular intervals and carefully tap off dust and chippings from the mechanism.

STORAGE

• Clean the product thoroughly so that all dust and dirt is removed.
• Lubricate the chain.
• Store the product in a dry, protected place out of the reach of children.

NOTE:
The supplied bar guard must always be fitted during transport and storage.

CHAIN MAINTENANCE

WARNING!

Always wear safety gloves.
It is only possible to work effectively when the chain is in good condition and correctly sharpened. A sharp and correctly filed chain also reduces the risk of kickback. The chain should be filed when:

• the sawdust becomes floury when sawing in damp wood
• the sawing capacity is reduced in spite of pressure on the bar
• the surface of the cut is roughened
• the bar begins to pull to the right or left.

Sharpening the chain

WARNING!

• A worn or incorrectly filed chain can result in kickback, which can result in fatal and/or serious personal injury.
• Wear heavy-duty safety gloves when handling the bar and chain.
• The filing should be done with a special tool to ensure that the chain has the right angles and height.
• All the drive links should have the same height. Different heights of the drive links will cause the chain to run out of balance and damage it.
• The minimum size of drive links is 4 mm. Discard the chain if they are less. The angles of the cutting edges must be maintained. File with 2 or 3 strokes from inside and out.
• File the chain with a round file. Always file the cutting edges from inside and out. Pay attention to the values given in the diagrams. After filing all the drive links should have the same width and height.
• The height of the rakers should be checked after 3 – 4 filings. If necessary, file down the rakers with a file template and flat file, and round off the front edge.

CLEANING BAR LUBRICATION SLOT

1. Remove the bar.
2. Clear the lubrication slot in the bar with a suitable tool.
3. Fit the bar.

IMPORTANT:
Clean the bar with plastic tools. Never use metal tools.

LUBRICATING THE SPROCKET

IMPORTANT:

• Wear heavy-duty safety gloves when handling the bar and chain.
• Switch off the saw, pull out the plug and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before lubricating it.

1. Clean the sprocket.
2. Press grease from the nozzle of the grease gun into the lubrication hole until it comes out by the edge of the bar. A grease gun with a slim nozzle simplifies effective lubrication.
3. Pull round the chain by hand. Repeat until all the sprocket has been lubricated.

FILLING CHAIN OIL
NOTE:
Preferably use biodegradable, vegetable chain oil to minimise the environmental impact.

1. Place the chain saw on a stable surface with the filler cap facing up.
2. Clean the cap are the area around it, if necessary.
3. Unscrew the filler cap.
4. Carefully fill with chain oil. Avoid spilling.
5. Check the oil level in the sight glass. The oil level should be between the MAX and MIN markings.
6. Tighten the filler cap by hand.
7. Wipe up any spilled oil.

Lubrication of chain
The chain should be cleaned and lubricated with chain oil after use. Apply a thin layer of oil on the chain.

Care for the environment!
Must not be discarded with household waste! This product contains electrical or electronic components that should be recycled. Leave the product for recycling at the designated station e.g. the local authority’s recycling station.
