The below image shows what each symbol on the screen does. Once the camera is turned on, you can brighten the display by tapping the power button on the side of the camera.

Turning the body camera on/off:

To turn the body camera on:

  • Hold the power button for three seconds
    • The body camera will vibrate, and the HALO logo will appear on the display screen for a few seconds.
    • When successfully powered up, the screen will change to the default display.
    • The light ring on the front of the camera will change to solid blue.

To power down the body camera:

  • Hold the power button for three seconds.
  • The body camera will vibrate, the HALO logo will appear on the display and the display will turn off.
  • The blue light ring on the front will also turn off

Capturing footage:

  • To Record footage:
    • Single press the Record button
    • The light ring on the front of the body camera will start to pulse blue.
    • The body camera will vibrate and a counter (time) will appear on the screen.
  • To stop recording
    •   * Single press the Record button.
    • The light ring will stop pulsing blue.
    • The counter on screen will disappear.

WiFi :

The body cameras are generally pre-configured with the customer’s SSID and password prior to shipping and will connect automatically to the preconfigured Access point once it is in range. You can also connect the Camera to the access point using WPS (if enabled). If the camera is disconnected from WiFi, the symbol below will appear.

If the body camera is connected to WiFi, it will indicate signal strength by how many bars change from grey to white. This image indicates that the WiFi is connected, and the signal strength is strong.

Storage:

Hours Minutes Each horizon camera has 58GB available storage for footage capture. In the below image, ‘2’ stands for the amount of storage left to use, whereas the 58GB shows the total amount of storage the camera can hold.

2 = Storage left to use. 56GB has been used, and 2GB is left. 58 = Is the overall amount of storage the camera can hold.

Charging:

The docking station can fast charge the body camera, and provide a wired internet connection, using an RJ45 cable. The body camera and docking station use magnets, which assist the user in placing the camera in the dock correctly.

To charge the body camera, place it in either the single charging dock or any of the 10 positions in the multi-dock. The battery symbol on the screen will animate to show the progress of charging.

Below is the battery symbol:

  • When the camera is charging: The ring on the front of the camera will flash white.
  • When the camera is fully charged: The LED ring on the front of the camera will be solid white light.
  • If there are no lights on the camera, make sure there is power going to the charging dock and the connection of the cables are secured.

Multidock internet connectivity:

The docking station has 2 RJ45 ports. Either port can be used for providing an internet connection to the body camera, or daisy-chaining another multidock, to provide an internet connection to another 10 cameras.

When placed in the docking station, the top left of the camera screen will display the symbol to the right, which indicates the camera is in the dock, but it has not obtained an IP address.

After a few seconds in the dock or a few seconds after an RJ45 cable is inserted into the docking station, this symbol will change to green. This indicates that the body camera has obtained an IP address on the network.

Function button:

The function button (FN) is found on the side of the body camera and can be configured to have various features.

Video Tagging
By default, the FN button can tag a button as evidential. So during a recording, if you press the FN button. The camera will vibrate and tell Halo Vault to mark the piece of footage as evidential, once it has been uploaded.

WPS
If WPS has been enabled on the camera, press the FN button for one second, and the body camera will vibrate and activate. On the screen, it will say ‘WPS Active’. WPS will stay active on the camera for 60 seconds and then automatically turn off. For more WPS information, please read the WPS instructions manual.

Footage upload:
Each Horizon body camera has footage upload capabilities. If the body camera is given internet connectivity (by either WiFi or RJ45). It will automatically check itself for footage every minute, on the minute. Depending on the size of the file, within around 10 seconds the screen will update to indicate the uploading is in progress.

File count
At the start of the upload process, the screen will update to show how many files there are to upload, and which file is currently about to be processed. The below example indicates that the body camera is currently uploading file number 6 out of a total of 10. This also means that files 1-5 have already been uploaded.

Upload progress

The screen will also display the upload progress of each individual file.
This image shows that the upload of a specific file is 59% complete.

Within a few seconds of reaching 100%, the file will be deleted from the camera, and available for review in Vault.

GPS:

Each Horizon body camera can record GPS coordinates. By default, the current GPS location is recorded on every video frame. If the GPS signal is low, for example when the body camera is indoors, the location will not be recorded. The symbol on the screen will be grey.

When the GPS signal is strong, the symbol will change to green. This means the coordinates are being recorded by the body camera and burned on each video frame.
