IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using product, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:
- Heed all warnings, including below warnings AND those included on product.
- HALO™ recessed luminaires (fixtures) are designed to meet the latest NEC requirements and are certified in full compliance with UL. Before attempting installation of any recessed lighting luminaire check your local electrical code. This code sets the wiring standards for your locality and should be carefully studied before starting.
- Read and follow these instructions.
- Do not make or alter any open holes in an enclosure of wiring or electrical components during kit installation.
- To prevent wiring damage or abrasion, do not expose wiring to edges of sheet metal or other sharp objects.
- Connect fixture to a 120 volt, 60 Hz power source. Any other connection voids the warranty.
- Fixture should be installed by persons with experience in household wiring or by a qualified electrician. The electrical system, and the method of electrically connecting the fixture to it, must be in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local building codes.
- WARNING – Risk of fire or electric shock. Install this kit only in luminaires that have the construction features and dimensions shown in the photographs and/or drawings and where the input rating of the retrofit kit does not exceed the input rating of the luminaire.

To avoid possible electrical shock, be sure that power supply is turned off at
fuse box or circuit breaker before installing or servicing luminaire.

Shock – LED Retrofit Kit installation requires knowledge of luminaires
electrical systems. If not qualified, do not attempt installation. Contact a
qualified electrician. Luminaire wiring and electrical parts may be damaged
when drilling for installation of LED retrofit kit. Check for enclosed wiring
and components.

- LED connector meets California Title-24 high-efficacy luminaire standard as a non-screw base socket.
- LED connector is a non-screwbase luminaire disconnect for tool-less installation.

5-YEAR WARRANTY
THE FOLLOWING WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR ANYPARTICULAR PURPOSE.
Cooper Lighting Solutions warrants to customers that, for a period of FIVE years from the date of purchase, Cooper Lighting Solutions products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship. The obligation of Cooper Lighting Solutions under this warranty is expressly limited to the provision of replacement products. This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser of the product. A purchaser’s receipt or other proof of date of original purchase acceptable to Cooper Lighting Solutions. This is required before warranty performance shall be rendered.
This warranty does not apply to Cooper Lighting Solutions products that have been altered or repaired or that have been subjected to neglect, abuse, misuse or accident (including shipping damages). This warranty does not apply to products not manufactured by Cooper Lighting Solutions which have been supplied, installed, and/or used in conjunction with Cooper Lighting Solutions products. Damage to the product caused by replacement bulbs or corrosion or discoloration of brass components are not covered by this warranty.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:

All returned products must be accompanied by a Return Goods Authorization Number issued by the Company and must be returned freight prepaid. Any product received without a Return Goods Authorization Number from the Company will be refused.
Cooper Lighting Solutions is not responsible for merchandise damaged in transit. Repaired or replaced products shall be subject to the terms of this warranty and are inspected when packed. Evident or concealed damage that is made in transit should be reported at once to the carrier making the delivery and a claim filed with them. Do not use with any other manufacturer’s dimmers.

NON-SCREWBASED LED LUMINAIRES
Before proceeding, confirm your recessed housing is compatible with RL56 LED Retrofit Modules. A list of the most common housings is provided below. Along with those noted below the RL56 LED Retrofit Modules are UL Certified for use with any 5” or 6” diameter recessed housing constructed of steel or aluminum with an internal volume that exceeds 108 in.3 and does not exceed the input rating of the housing.

INSTALLATIONS INSTRUCTIONS & MOUNTING

For ground connection, attach the preinstalled green ground wire on the light to the housing, using 1 of 3 connection methods:

Use sheet metal screw (B) to attach to 1 of 3 slots inside housing.

Drive pan head screw (C) into existing hole inside the housing.
Note: If no hole exists, drill a small [1/8”] pilot hole and use the provided #8 sheet metal screw (B). -
Twist nut (D) onto the threaded stud in housing wall.
Note: If no hole exists, drill a small pilot hole and use the provided #8 sheet metal screw. -
Skip this step if the housing is already equipped with an orange quick connector. If installed: Remove the mounting bracket and plate from inside the housing and then remove the socket from the plate. Then screw the Socket Adapter (B) into the housing.

Plug the orange quick connect into the light.

Skip this step if installing into a 6” housing. For 5” housings: Loosen screws on top brackets and slide them into the 5” position & retighten the screws.

Press both pairs of torsion spring legs together and insert them into the receivers inside the housing.

UNINSTALLING
Torsion Springs Method
- Pull down firmly on the module until it stops.
- Reach between the flange of the light (inside the can) and squeeze legs together to remove the fixture.
- Unplug the orange connector and remove the ground wire.
Friction Clips Method
- Twist the fixture (about 60°) counterclockwise to release the grip of the friction clips.
- Pull down firmly on the fixture to remove it from the housing.
- Unplug the orange connector and remove the ground wire.
ALTERNATE INSTALLATION – FRICTION CLIPS
Friction Clips Method
- Unscrew the torsion spring brackets from the module and discard.
- Insert friction clips into friction clip holders making sure that they are fully seated, and locking feature engages (indicated by a click).
- Properly wire the unit as instructed in WIRING section of these instructions.
- Make sure all 3 friction clips are full expanded by rotating the clips as shown.
- Align the module in the center of the recessed housing and firmly press the light fixture upward into it
