Signify T8 LED Tubes
Product Information
The Philips LED tubes are designed to provide a fast and simple way to convert existing luminaires to LED technology. The installation process is 100% safe and hassle-free, as it involves lamp-for-lamp replacement. With the LED tubes, you can instantly upgrade your lighting system to LED technology.
There are two types of LED tubes available:
- T8
- T5
To determine the correct installation guide, you need to identify the ballast type in your luminaire. The following options are available:
- Electro-magnetic Ballast (EM)
- High-frequency Electronic Ballast (HF)
- Direct mains connection
For each ballast type, specific installation instructions are provided to ensure proper installation and operation of the LED tubes.
Product Usage Instructions
T8 – Electro-magnetic Ballast (EM)
- Turn off the power supply.
- Remove the existing lamp.
- Remove the starter.
- Install the LED starter.
- Install the LED tube (T8; EM/Mains or UN) with the light opening facing downwards.
- Turn on the power supply.
- (Optional) Remove the compensation capacitor to improve the power factor.
T8 – High-frequency Electronic Ballast (HF)
- Check the version of your HF electronic ballast by clicking here or visiting philips.com/ledtube.
- Once ballast compatibility is confirmed, proceed to the next step.
- Turn off the power supply.
- Remove the existing lamp.
- Install the LED tube (InstantFit HF or UN) with the light opening facing downwards.
- Turn on the power supply.
T8/T5 – Direct mains connection
- Turn off the power supply.
- Remove the existing lamp.
- Remove the cover to expose the ballast.
- Cut the wires and remove the ballast.
- For T8 EM/Mains, T8 UN, and T5 Mains: Install the LED tube (T8 or T5; EM/Mains, Mains, or UN) with the light opening facing downwards.
- For T8 EM/Mains and T5 Mains (HO only): Install the LED tube (T8 or T5; EM/Mains or Mains) with the light opening facing downwards.
- Turn on the power supply.
Note:
The direct mains connection method is not permitted in Switzerland.

- Pro tip for choosing a Philips LED tube: Watch out for the rings! The number of rings on the LED tube indicates its compatibility with different ballast types.

- Check HF electronic ballast version
- Verify HF electronic ballast compatibility
- Turn off power supply
- Remove lamp
- Install LED tube (InstantFit HF or UN) with light opening facing downwards
- Turn on power supply

- Turn off power supply
- Remove lamp
- Remove cover to expose ballast
- 4. Cut wires and re move ballast

- Install LED tube (T8 or T5; EM/Mains, Mains or UN) with light opening facing downwards
