GENERAL
The FW-400 provides you with daylight at any moment. During use, you may continue your normal activities. The FW-400 should be aimed at your eyes to ensure that the bright light enters your body via your retina. By means of nerve connections, the recognition of bright light passes to a part of the brain where the biological clock of the human body is located. The brain will consider the light as if it was a nice and sunny summer’s day, even when it’s dark en in the middle of winter. In this way you influence your own biological clock. When using the FW-400 on a daily basis, you’ll improve your mood, gain more energy and enhance and restore your sleeping pattern. Within just two weeks you’ll notice the first results.

When the light is illuminated but the timer indication is off, the light will remain lit without using the timer.
GENERAL USE
When using the FW-400 daylight therapy for the first time, we recommend
starting early in the morning to restore your day and night time rhythm. Set
the light intensity to the highest level, but remember to listen to your
body.
At a distance of approx. 30 cm and on the highest setting, in most cases a
time of 30 minutes (2 timer indicators) is sufficient.
When a lower light intensity is used or in case of a longer distance, you may
set a longer time for the same results.
During use, the light must be aimed at your eyes. However, you don’t have to
look straight into the light, but briefly looking straight into the light
would be beneficial. During the therapy you may wear your glasses or contacts
as usual.
INDICATIONS FOR USE
The intended use of the Light Therapy Lamp is to provide light source to offer a kind of “Light therapy” function in which the artificial light environment would provide end user with sense of relax or help them to ease depression, or treat seasonal affective disorder. Many people regularly experience lack of energy throughout the day, this product can be used to boost them and let them feel more energetic by suppressing sleep hormone inside body
CONTRAINDICATION
The following conditions may be contraindicated for use of this appliance:
- bipolar disorder
- recent eye surgery or a diagnosed eye condition for which your doctor advised you to avoid bright light
- use of photo-sensitising medications (e.g. certain antidepressants, psychotropic drugs or malaria tablets)
- If any of the above conditions apply to you, always consult your doctor before you start using the appliance.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Possible adverse reactions to light from this appliance are relatively mild
and of a transient nature.
They may include:
– Headache
– Eyestrain
– Nausea
– Mild hypomania
Measures to avoid, minimise or alleviate these adverse reactions:
– Always use the appliance in a well-lit room.
– Reduce the light intensity if these reactions occur.
– Stop using the appliance for a few days to make the reactions disappear and
then try again.
WINTER BLUES/WINTER DEPRESSION
Symptoms of a winter depression
- Fatigue
- Excessive need to sleep
- Dejectedness
- Trouble concentrating
- Lots of sleep, but not feeling rested.
- Irritable
- Increase in weight
- Less desire to go out
The complaints disappear in the spring and summer and return in the fall and
winter.
The winter blues consists of having several of the above symptoms.
Complaints can arise because of a decrease in sunlight. By using light therapy
these complaints are lessened or may even disappear. Use the FW-400 for at
least 2 weeks to a month. It’s recommended to use the FW-400 throughout the
entire year.
TROUBLE SLEEPING
Especially when becoming older your day and night rhythm changes which leads
to this target group getting insufficient daylight. Complaints that may arise
are fatigue during the day, irregular sleep, drowsiness in the early evening
and lying awake at night. The solution is to apply light therapy for 15 to 30
minutes in the early evening. The sleeping time is then moved to a later
moment of time.
JETLAG
Jetlag means the disturbance of the awake-sleep rhythm. This occurs when
somebody quickly moves to another place on earth with a different time zone.
This usually happens when taking a flight to go on holiday.
When flying to the West, use the FW-400 in the evening.
When flying to the East, use the FW-400 in the morning.
The jetlag will last a lot shorter.
Of course, remember to bring the correct travel plug.
BURN-OUT
Having a burn-out can be determined by having little or no energy and
motivation when at work.
Symptoms of a burn-out are:
- Exhaustion (serious fatigue)
- Cynicism
- A negative self image
- Decreased competence
Light therapy allows you to restore the disturbed energy storage en counteract
emotional exhaustion.
The best time for applying light therapy in case of a burn-out is in the
morning.
FATIQUE
When you’re feeling tired, you may notice the following phenomena:
- Your eyes see less focused or keep closing
- You speak slower and with more difficulty
- Your eyes are blurry or you don’t see things at all
- Your thoughts strays
- You experience head or stomach ache
- You’re becoming sleepy
- You lose interest in small but possibly important details
- You can’t think straight anymore
- You’re quickly distracted and irritated
- You feel less desire to do anything
- You’re losing your sense of humour
By using the bright light of the FW-400 you can improve your sleeping pattern, because the biological clock signals to your body that it’s morning time. Use the FW-400 especially in the morning.

The more (XXX) in the column, the more appropriate the moment.
LAMP OPERATION
Connect the supplied adaptor to the FW-400 and insert the adaptor into a wall
socket.
When using the lamp, maintain the recommended distance of 10 – 60 cm between
your face and the lamp, the closer you are to the source of light, the less
time you should use it. The duration of the application depends on the
distance:

Press the timer button to switch on the FW-400.
Repeatedly press this button to set the timer.
1st LED: 15 minutes
2nd LED: 30 minutes
3rd LED: 45 minutes
4th LED: 60 minutes
When the lamp is illuminated while no LED is enabled, the light will remain
lit without using the timer.
You may press and hold the timer button for at least 2 seconds to switch off
the lamp.
Press the + and – buttons to increase or decrease the light intensity.

CLEANING AND STORAGE
Never use any aggressive cleaning products. Only clean the FW-400 with a moist
cloth. Make sure that no water enters the device. If this does happen,
immediately disconnect the device and let it fully dry before the next use.
Protect the device against dust, chemicals, humidity and extreme temperature
changes and keep it away from appliances that generate heat (ovens or
heaters).
Store the lamp in the original packaging when not using it for a long period
of time.
WARNINGS AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Before use, look for any visual damage to the device and accessories. If in doubt, do not use the device but contact a service center or your dealer.

Never insert/remove the adaptor into/from the wall socket with wet hands.

Only use the supplied adaptor for the FW-400 and pay attention to the power specifications of the adaptor.

When you suspect a defect or an abnormal operation, immediately switch off the device and remove the adaptor from the wall socket.

This device is only intended for use by consumers and not for commercial applications.

Possible side effects include headache, tired or irritated eyes and nausea.
These should after several use be lower. Otherwise consult a doctor. -
When using antidepressant or antipsychotics, consult a physician before using.

There are medicines that make the body more susceptible to (UV) light.
Examples of photosensitive medication are certain antibiotics, hormonal ointments for the skin, lithium, st John’s wort and diuretics. The classic light therapy lamps use lamps that also emit UV light. The UV light is filtered, making itlight does not present a danger to the eyes or to the skin. However, it is advisable to consult your doctor about the use of light therapy lamp in combination with the above medicines. -
When diagnosing manic depression, consult a physician for use.

People with a history of (severe) eye diseases, eye disorders (eg as a result of diabetic mellitus) or macular degeneration do not use the lamp.

The device may only be used for its intended use and in accordance with what is described in this user’s manual.

Incorrect use can be dangerous.

The manufacturer is not liable for any damages as a result of incorrect or careless use.

This device may be used by children older than ten years old, provided they are being supervised or they have received instructions regarding the safe use of the device and are fully aware of the concerned risks.

Cleaning and maintenance of the device may not be performed by children, provided they are being supervised.

Keep the packaging materials out of reach of children (risk of suffocation).

Arrange the power cable in a way that avoids the risk of tripping over it.

Never drop the device.
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF DAY TO USE MY PRODUCT
- Studies have shown that SAD suffers respond best to treatment in the morning, and that using a therapy light too late in the day can disturb sleep patterns.
- Morning application is recommended, while morning application is more positive than other time points.
