Product usage

Installation

For installation or maintenance, the unit must be unplugged from the power outlet.

WARNING : before using the air conditioner for the first time, it must be kept in an upright position for at least 2 hours.

Location

  • The unit should be placed on a stable floor to minimise noise and vibration. Place on a flat, level floor that is sturdy enough to support the weight of the unit, in a location where it can operate safely.
  • The unit must be positioned at a distance of 50 cm from any wall or other object.
  • Avoid damp environments such as bathrooms.
  • The unit is fitted with castors to be able to move it easily over smooth, flat surfaces. Be careful when moving it on carpet. If moving the unit over a wooden floor, take care to protect the flooring before moving the unit. Do not attempt to roll the unit over objects.
  • The unit must be plugged into an earthed socket.
  • Never place obstacles around the unit’s air inlets or outlets.
  • The hose can be unfolded, but it is recommended that you keep its length as short as possible.
  • Make sure that the hose has no sharp bends and is not sagging.

Installation

  • You can easily move the air conditioner from one room to another.
  • The unit should be placed near a window or opening so that the hot air can be vented outside. Follow the instructions below:
  1. Select a suitable installation location near an electrical outlet.
  2. Slightly extend one end of the duct (Fig. 1), then screw it into the inlet adapter (Fig. 2). Make sure that the duct is screwed into the adapter as far as it will go.VALBERG-CLIM-A7-Local-Air-Conditioner-FIG-2
  3. Extend the other end of the hose slightly, then screw it into the outlet adapter (Fig. 3). Make sure that the duct is screwed into the sleeve as far as it will go.
  4. Insert the pipe inlet adapter into t he outlet grille of the unit.
  5. Extend the expandable duct to the required length without stretching it out fully to avoid any risk of damaging it.
    • The air must be able to flow freely. Make sure that the duct is not twisted and does not form a bend, as this could cause overheating!VALBERG-CLIM-A7-Local-Air-Conditioner-FIG-5
  6. For traditional windows: open the window slightly, then lay the duct on the window sill and wedge it in place with the window pane.

For patio doors: adjust the opening space to match the width of the kit (adjustable), then insert the expandable duct into the plate of the window kit as shown in the figures below.VALBERG-CLIM-A7-Local-Air-Conditioner-
FIG-7

Your sliding window kit is designed to be fitted on most vertical and horizontal windows. However, it may be necessary to modify the installation procedure for certain types of windows.

NOTE : If the window opening is smaller than the minimum length of the sliding window kit, cut the part outside the hole to match the size of the window. Never cut the part with the hole.

Use

In order to optimise the efficiency of your air conditioner, we recommend that you do not expose it to direct sunlight during operation (if possible, draw the curtains or close the shutters).

Using the remote control

  • Point it at the receiver on the unit.
  • Stand within 7 m of the unit, and make sure that there are no obstacles between the remote control and the unit.
  • Handle the mixing blades with care: do not drop it or expose it to sunlight or heat sources.
  • The remote control works with 2 x AAA 1.5 V batteries (included). Please install them before use by removing the cover on the back.

Switching on the unit

  1. Plug the unit into an earthed wall socket. A beep sounds, and the unit goes into standby mode.
  2. Press the button on the control panel or remote control.
  3. To turn off the unit, press the button on the control panel or on the remote control.

Selecting the operating mode
Press the button on the remote control or on the control panel to select the required operating mode by toggling through the different modes in the following order: air-conditioning, ventilation, dehumidification. The indicator light corresponding to the selected mode lights up on the control panel.

COOL mode
In air conditioning mode, the hot air must be vented outside (see «Installation» section).

  1. Press the button on the remote control or on the control panel several times to select the cool mode. The corresponding indicator light comes on.
  2. Adjust the air outlet temperature of the unit according to the ambient temperature you want to obtain. The temperature can be adjusted from 16°C to 31°C (61-88°F) using the + and – buttons on the control panel or remote control. The temperature increases/ decreases by 1°C and appears on the screen.
  3. Select the fan speed by pressing the button on the remote control or on the control panel several times until the display shows the required speed: HIGH (fast) or LOW (slow). The indicator for the selected speed will light up on the control panel. The air is then cooled and the hot air is vented to the outside through the expandable exhaust duct.

NOTE : the cooling function turns off when the room temperature is lower than theset temperature. However, the fan continues to run at the set level. The cooling function starts up again as soon as the ambient temperature exceeds the set temperature (with a delay of 3 minutes in order to protect the compressor). During the day, for optimal comfort, the difference between the temperature setting on the air conditioner and the outside temperature should not exceed 8°C. What’s more, you will save energy.

DEHUMIDIFICATION mode
In dehumidification mode, the unit reduces the level of humidity in the air. The water contained in the ambient air, that enters the unit, condenses and is recovered inside the unit.

  1. Make sure that the windows and doors of the room, where the unit is located, are closed.
  2. Press on the button on the remote control or on the control panel several times to select the dehumidification mode. The corresponding indicator light comes on. The air is dehumidified as it passes through the unit, but is not completely cooled.

NOTE : In dehumidification mode, it is not possible to adjust the temperature and the fan speed, which is set to the slow position by default.

FAN mode
In fan mode, the air circulates in the room without being cooled.

  1. Press on the button on the remote control or on the control panel several times to select the fan mode. The corresponding indicator light comes on.
  2. Select the fan speed by pressing the button on the remote control or on the control panel several times until the display shows the required speed: HIGH (fast) or LOW (slow). The indicator for the selected speed will light up on the control panel. The air circulates in the room at room temperature.

NOTE : In fan mode, it is not possible to adjust the temperature.

Timer function

Program the unit to stop automatically

  1. When the unit is running, press the button on the remote control or on the control panel to activate the timer. The numbers flash on the screen.
  2. Press the + and – buttons on the control panel or the remote control to set the running time of the unit before it switches off (from 1 to 24 hours).
  3. The corresponding indicator light comes on. The unit will automatically stop when this time has elapsed.

Programming a delayed start

  1. When the unit is plugged in and on standby, press the button on the remote control or on the control panel to activate the timer. The number «01» will flash on the display.
  2. Press the + and – buttons on the control panel or the remote control to set the waiting time before the unit switches on (from 1 to 24 hours).
  3. Once the time has been chosen, the unit will return to standby mode and display the ambient temperature. The corresponding indicator light remains lit on the control panel, and the unit starts automatically at the end of this period of time.

NOTE : When a delayed start has been programmed, the unit automatically starts up in the last previously selected mode.

Cancelling a program
You can cancel an automatic stop or a delayed start in two ways:

  • Press twice on the button on the remote control or on the control panel. Press once to check the synchroniZation range that you set and then press it again to cancel the timer function. The TIMER indicator light will switch off.

  3. To deactivate this function, press the button on the remote control or on the control panel.
During the night, for optimal comfort, the difference between the temperature setting on the air conditioner and the outside temperature should not exceed 5°C.

Safety system

  • In cool, dehumidification or sleep mode, the unit switches off automatically if the ambient temperature is too low. The unit starts up again as soon as the ambient temperature rises above the set temperature (with a delay of 3 minutes in order to protect the compressor).
  • In dehumidification mode, the unit notifies you when the water collected in the tank has exceeded the acceptable level. An audible signal sounds, the «FULL» indicator lights up and the unit switches off. You must then drain it: go to Cleaning and maintenance > Emptying the water tank.

Cleaning and maintenance

IMPORTANT : Always unplug the power cord from the socket before cleaning or servicing the unit.

Cleaning the body of the unit

  • You can clean the body of the unit with a sponge slightly moistened with warm water and a mild detergent (such as washing-up liquid). Rinse with clean water and thoroughly dry using a soft, dry cloth.
  • Be careful to not let water get inside the unit.
  • Do not use chemicals or abrasive detergents for cleaning as they could easily damage or deform your unit. Also avoid the use of aerosols.

Cleaning the filters
The filter should be cleaned approximately once a month if the unit is used regularly. If you use the air conditioner in an extremely dusty environment, clean the filter more frequently (every 2 weeks).

A clogged filter reduces the performance of the unit.

  1. Unscrew the EVA filter and take it out of its compartment.
  2. The dust and dirt on the filters can be removed with a vacuum cleaner. If the filter is very dirty, wash it in warm water (40°C) with some mild detergent (e.g. washing-up liquid). You can rub it gently with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse the filter with clean water and leave it to dry completely.
  3. Put the filter back in its compartment.

Emptying the water tank
The unit has a water tank and two drain holes at the rear of the unit. When the tank is full, there is an audible signal, the «FULL» indicator lights up and the unit switches off. You must then empty this tank.

There are two ways of doing this:

MANUAL EMPTYING
Water should be drained from areas with high moisture content.

  1. Unplug the unit from the power source.
  2. Place a suitable container (not supplied) under the drain hole at the bottom of the unit.
  3. Unscrew the cover and remove the drain plug.
  4. The water will drain out into the container.
  5. Once the water has been drained, replace the plug and the cover.
  6. Turn on the unit.

CONTINUOUS EMPTYING
Continuous drainage is recommended when using the airconditioner in dehumidification mode.

  1. Unplug the unit from the power source.
  2. Unscrew the cover and remove the drain plug located halfway up. During this stage, some water may drain out. So, have a suitable container ready to collect the water that might come out of the drain hole.
  3. Connect the drain hose (supplied).
  4. The water can be continuously drained through the hose to a drain, bucket or sink.
  5. Turn on the unit.

NOTE: Whichever drainage method you choose, make sure that the drain hose is below drain hole, to ensure that the water tank is drained properly.

Always empty the water tank:

  • If you need to transport your air conditioner from one place to another.
  • If the unit is not going to be used for a prolonged period.

In the event of prolonged non-use
If you are planning not to use the unit for an extended period of time:

  1. Empty the water tank as described in the previous section.
  2. Run the unit in ventilation-only mode for at least 2 hours: this will dry out the inside of the unit in order to prevent any risk of mould growing.
  3. Turn off and unplug the unit.
  4. Clean the filter and the body of the unit as indicated in the previous sections.
  5. Put the filter back in its compartment.
  6. Remove the batteries from the remote control and store them together with the air conditioner in a clean, dry place.
  7. Store the unit in a dry, dust-free environment away from children.
