INTRODUCTION

WORKAREA
- Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, wellit and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a shadow.

- Never operate if any of the guards or safety features are removed, improperly applied or in question.
- This chipper is only for use with wood materials.
- Before feeding any wood into the chipper, ensure it contains no nails, staples or other fasteners or non-wood elements.
- Never put any part of your body into the infeed chute while the machine is running.
- Never remove, bend, cut, fit, weld or otherwise alter any standard parts of the wood chipper, including shields and guards.
- If unusual noise or vibration is detected, cease operation immediately.
- Never overload the chipper or push it beyond its capabilities. Check the specifications before operation.
- Check the fasteners and components of the chipper before each operation, ensuring they are as required
- Do not tamper with governor spring, links or other engine parts to increase speed or power.
- The engine and exhaust become very hot during operation. Severe thermal burns can occur on contact, especially with the muffler.
- a. Remove accumulated debris from muffler and cylinder area Combustible debris, such as leaves, grass, brush, etc. can catch fire if they come in contact with a hot engine.
- b. Do not place anything on the engine while it is running.
- c. Allow muffler, engine cylinder and all other components to cool before touching.
- Do not operate the engine with the air cleaner or the carburetor air intake cover removed
FUEL SAFETY
DANGER! Fuel is very flammable. Use extreme care when handling or storing
fuel. An ignition source contacting the fumes or fuel may result in a fire or
explosion and cause fatal or serious injuries to you or a bystander.
WARNING! Always shut the engine off and allow to cool before fuelling.
Never add fuel to a machine with a running or hot engine. Move at least 10 ft.
from the refuelling site before starting the engine to avoid an explosion or
fire.
- Use only an approved fuel container for storing and refueling.
- Do not allow open flames, sparks or smoking near fuel.
- Fuel cans may be under pressure due to temperature. Loosen fuel caps slowly, allowing the pressure to equilibrate.
- Do not fill fuel tanks indoor. Always fill fuel tanks outdoors over bare ground.
- Inspect for fuel leaks. Do not start until leakage is repaired.
- Store fuel out of direct sunlight in a cool and dry location.
- Wipe up any spilled fuel before starting the engine or allow to evaporate. Spilled fuel is both a fire hazard and an environmental hazard. Dispose of the fuel soaked rags in a proper hazardous waste container.
UNPACKING
- WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing.
- Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to do so could result in a malfunction and personal injury.
- Remove the parts and accessories from the packaging and inspect for damage. Make sure that all items in the parts list are included.
ASSEMBLY & INSTALLATION
- WARNING: DO NOT attempt to start the engine until all assembly has been completed. Serious personal injury and damage to the machine may occur.
- Numbered references in parenthesis (#1) refer to the included Parts List.
- Dashed numbers in parenthesis (Fig. 1-1) refer to a specific point in an illustration or image.
- Major components have been assembled. Some minor assembly is necessary.
DISCHARGE CHUTE
- Place the rubber discharge gasket (#58) onto the output port of the chipper base and align the holes.
- Place the assembled discharge chute (#20) onto the discharge rubber gasket and secure in place using the M10 x 24 hex bolts (#38), M10 lock washer and M10 flat washer.
- Torque the bolts 32 ft-lb.
IN-FEED CHUTE
- With the in-feed rubber gasket (#59) in place, insert the 2 hinge pins on the in-feed chute (#23) into the hinge receptacle on the input port of the chipper base.
- Move the in-feed chute into position and secure in place using the 2 provided cap screws, flat washers and self-locking nuts.
- Tighten enough to lightly compress the rubber gasket.
- Connect the emergency stop wire to the receptacle at the engine.
WHEELAXLES
- Tip the chipper by lifting the in-feed chute.
- a. It is recommended that this is accomplished by at least 2 people.
- Install a wheel axle (#2) onto each side of the chipper base with the round portion of the axle on the bottom.
- Secure each axle in place using M10 x 24 hex bolts, M10 lock washers and M10 flat washers
- Torque the bolts 32 ft-lb.
- Tip the chipper back into its natural position.
WHEELS
- Remove the pin (#41), castle nut (#40) and washer (#39) from the wheel axles.
- Tip the chipper by lifting the in-feed chute.
- a. It is recommended that this is accomplished by at least 2 people.
- Install a wheel (#4) onto each axle with the filling stem on the outside.
- Place the washer onto the wheel axle and secure the wheel in place by installing the castle nut.
- Tighten the castle nut until there is a slight amount of drag on the wheel when turned by hand.
- Back off the castle nut until the next slot is aligned with the pinhole on the axle then insert the pin and bend its ends to prevent the castle nut from backing off.
- Place the dust cover onto the wheel hub and knock it into place using a rubber mallet.
- Tip the chipper back into its natural position.
SUPPORT FOOT
- Tip the chipper by lifting the in-feed chute.
- a. It is recommended that this is accomplished by at least 2 people.
- Place the assembled support foot (#14) onto the chipper base below the output port.
- Align the 4 holes on the foot plate (#17) bracket with the holes on the chipper base.
- Secure in place using M10 x 24 hex bolts and M10 lock nuts (#42).
- Torque the bolts 32 ft-lb.
- Tip the chipper back into its natural position.
TOW BAR
- Insert the assembled tow bar (#18) into the opening on the support foot.
- Align the 2 holes and secure the tow bar in place using M10 x 80 hex bolts (#43) and M10 lock nuts.
- Torque the bolts 32 ft-lb.
OPERATION
- WARNING! Do not place your hands into the infeed chute when loading.
- WARNING! Do not reach or step across the rail while the chipper is running.
- Maneuver the chipper into the desired position.
- Stop the front wheel with the brake, ensuring that the chipper cannot roll or be moved
- Ensure that the fuel shut-off valve is in the ON position.
- Move the choke control lever to the CHOKE position.
- a. This should only be needed if the engine has not been recently run or is cold.
- Move the throttle control lever to the FAST position.
- For recoil start, accomplish the following:
- a. turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- b. Grasp the recoil starter handle and slowly pull until you feel resistance.
- c. Allow the cord to retract slightly.
- d. Pull the cord rapidly to start the engine. This should be ordinarily accomplished with only 1 or 2 pulls.
- For electric start, accomplish the following:
- a. Turn and hold the key in the START position until the engine starts.
- b. Allow the key return to the RUN position.
- Once the engine is running well, move the choke control lever, if used, slowly back to the RUN position.
- If the engine has not been in recent use or is cold, allow the engine to warm up by running it at half throttle for 3 to 4 minutes. Then, advance the engine throttle control to maximum speed.
- Securely hold the wood workpiece to be chipped.
- Standing off to the side (Fig. 1-1), feed the workpiece into the infeed chute.
- If wood becomes lodged during operation.
- Turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire and battery terminals before attempting to inspect or dislodge.
- Once operation is complete, always ensure to turn the chipper off by accomplishing the following.
- a. move the throttle to the IDLE position.
- b. If using recoil start, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
- c. If using electric start, turn the key to the OFF position.
CARE & MAINTENANCE
WARNING! BEfore performing any inspections or maintenance, Turn off the engine, allow it to cool for at least 5 minutes, and then disconnect the spark plug wire, keeping it away from the spark plug, and battery terminals.
- Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will have fewer problems.
- Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
- Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
- Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
- Keep the tool clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.
- Maintain the tool’s labels and name plates. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
- WARNING. Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
LUBRICATION
- All bearings are sealed units and should have sufficient lubrication to last the life of your chipper with normal use.
DISPOSAL
- Recycle a tool damaged beyond repair at the appropriate facility.
- Contact your local municipality for a list of disposal facilities or by-laws for electronic devices, batteries, oil or other toxic liquids.
- IMPORTANT! DO NOT pollute the environment by allowing uncontrolled discharge of waste oil.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Visit a Princess Auto Ltd. location for a solution if the tool does not function properly or parts are missing. If unable to do so, have a qualified technician service the tool.
