GENERAL APPLICATION NOTES
This product is part of personal protective equipment (PPE) for protection against falls from a height and should be assigned to a person. These instructions contain vital information. The instructions must have been understood by the user before actual use. This document must be passed on by the reseller to the user in the language spoken in the country of destination and must be saved for the entire service life of the equipment together with it. The following instructions for use are important and help ensure proper practical application. However, they cannot replace the experience, responsible action and knowledge required for mountaineering, climbing, and working at a height or depth; and they certainly cannot free users from shouldering their personal risk.

Attention : If these instructions for use are not carefully observed, the life of persons may be at risk!

GENERAL SAFETY NOTES
Mountaineering, climbing and working at heights and in depths often entail hidden dangers and risks caused by external influences. Errors and carelessness may cause severe accidents, injury, and even death. If this product is combined with other components, these may mutually affect safety. Use only CE-marked components of personal protective equipment (PPE) for protection against falling from a height. If original components of the product are modified or removed, the safety properties may be influenced adversely. The equipment should not be altered or remodeled or adjusted by use of additional parts in any way not specifically recommended by the manufacturer in writing. Before and after use, check the product for possible damage. Ensure fitness for use and correct function. If in doubt concerning the safety condition of the product, remove it from use immediately. In case of abuse and/or improper use, the manufacturer refuses any liability. In such cases, the responsibility and risk lie with the users or persons responsible for the operation. When using this product, we recommend additionally observing the applicable national rules. Personal protective equipment is exclusively designed for securing of persons.

PRODUCT-SPECIFIC INFORMATION, FIGURE CAPTIONS

To achieve safe connections of slings, only employ suitable knots, such as the webbing sling knots. The knots should be done such that the length of the protruding ends is at least 10 cm. Generally note that even suitable knots may reduce the loading strength of the webbing and slings by up to 50 %. If the original components of the product are modified or removed, the safety properties may be influenced adversely. The equipment should not be altered or remodelled or adjusted by use of additional parts in any way not specifically recommended by the manufacturer in writing. Before and after use, check the product for possible damage. Ensure fitness for use and correct function. If in doubt concerning the safety condition of the product, remove it from use immediately.

ATTENTION! The products must not be subjected to damaging influences. This specifically includes contact with caustic or aggressive substances (e. g.: acids, lye, soldering fluid, oils, cleaning agents) as well as extreme temperatures and flying sparks. Sharp edges, moisture and icing especially may substantially impair the loading strength of textile products!

  1. a – e Application notes for EDELRID Adjustable Belay Station Sling.
  2. Radial loading of seams must be avoided in any case.
  3. a – b Application-specific reduction of loading strength in relation to product-specific maximum loading strength.
  4. a/b Webbing slings do not have any dynamic reserves and should therefore be loaded statically only. Any potential fall loading must be avoided.
  5. a-c Be sure to avoid abrasion loading between textile components and webbing slings.
  6. a/b Recommendations for use of anti-twists on diverse express slings.
  7. a/b When using an anti-twist, be sure to feed the karabiner through the sling.

SERVICE LIFE AND REPLACEMENT
The service life of the product mainly depends on the type and frequency of use as well as on external influences. When approaching the durability limits or latest at the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use. Products made of synthetic fibers (Polyamide, Polyester, Dyneema®, Aramid, Vectran®) are subject to some aging even if not used; their service life especially depends on the intensity of the ultraviolet radiation and other climatic conditions they are exposed to. When approaching the durability limits or latest at the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use.

Notes regarding products with high-strength fibers:

  • Aramid fibers have a low resistance to UV radiation and should therefore not be exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • High-strength polyethylene fibers have a lower melting point (140 °C) than other synthetic fibers and a much lower coefficient of friction, which can make such textile products more difficult to control during use.

Maximum service life

  • With optimum storage conditions (see Storage) and without use: 14 years
  • Maximum useful life (commercial/non-commercial use) Providing proper use and no detectable signs of wear showing as well as under optimum storage conditions: 10 years

Frequent or extreme use
Frequent use and high workload, e.g. with contaminated ropes, may substantially reduce the useful life.

Remove the product from service immediately if any of the following applies

  • if webbing edges are damaged or individual fibers have been pulled from the webbing
  • if visible signs of damage or abrasion show on seems
  • if melting burns, decoloration or strong furriness of the webbing has occurred
  • if the material has come in contact with chemicals or has been subjected to a hard fall load (fall factor >1)
  • if webbing or slings have an integrated wear indicator, the product must be replaced immediately if wear has exposed the indicator (internal fabric of different colour has become visible), continued use may cause fatal accidents.

Repairs may only be performed as outlined in the instructions of the manufacturer.

Inspection
In case of commercial use, the product must be inspected regularly or at least once a year by the manufacturer, a qualified person or an approved inspection body/agency; thereafter it may have to be
serviced or removed from use.

STORAGE, TRANSPORT AND CARE

  • Storage
Store cool, dry, and protected from daylight outside transport containers. Prevent contact with chemicals. Prevent mechanical strain by crushing, pressure or tension.

  • Transport
The product must be kept away from direct sunlight, chemicals, dirt and mechanical damage. For this purpose, a protective bag or special storage and transport containers should be used.

  • Cleaning
Clean contaminated products in hand-warm water (if needed, add pH-balanced soap). Cleaning: Commercial disinfectants based on alcohol (isopropanol) may be used if necessary.

  • Climate during use
The temperature range for continuous use of the product (in dry conditions) is approx. –35 °C to +55 °C.
