EDELRID Axiom Pulley Carabiner
GENERAL APPLICATION NOTES
This product is part of personal protective equipment (PPE) for protection
against falls from height and should be assigned to a person. These
instructions contain vital information. The instructions must have been
understood by the user before actual use. The reseller must provide this
document in the language spoken in the country of use and it must be kept
together with the equipment during the entire service life. The following
instructions for use are important and help ensuring proper practical
application. However, they cannot replace the experience, responsible action
and knowledge required for mountaineering, climbing, and working at height;
and they certainly cannot free users from assessing their personal risk. The
product must be used exclusively by trained, experienced persons or by
instructed persons who are being supervised. The user should be aware that
deficient bodily or mental health may impair safety of normal application and
in emergency situations.
Attention: If these instructions for use are not carefully observed, the
life of persons may be at risk!
GENERAL SAFETY NOTES
Mountaineering, climbing and working at heights often entail hidden dangers and risks caused by external influences. Errors and carelessness may cause severe accidents, injuries, and even death. If this product is combined with other components or systems, these may mutually affect safety. Use only CE marked components as personal protective equipment (PPE) for protection against falling from height. If original components of the product are modified or removed, the safety properties may be influenced adversely. The equipment should not be altered, modified or adjusted by use of additional parts in any way not specifically recommended by the manufacturer in writing. Before and after use, check the product for possible damages. Ensure correct function and suitability for use. If in doubt concerning the safety condition of the product, remove it from use immediately. In case of abuse and/or improper use, the manufacturer refuses any liability. In such cases, the responsibility and risk lie with the users or persons responsible for the operation. Whenusing this product, we recommend additionally observing the applicable national rules. Personal protective equipment is exclusively designed for securing of persons.
Fall arrest harness are the only equipment allowed to use in a fall arrest system and have to be connected with the energy absorber with a EN 362 karabiner on the A or A/2 marked attachment points. Don’t use this equipment outside its limitations or for any purpose other than intended.
PRODUCT SPECIFIC INFORMATION, FIGURE CAPTIONS
Before using the equipment, the user must ensure a rescue plan that in the event of falling into the PPE-system, the person caught can be rescued immediately, safely and effectively. Motionless suspension in a harness may cause severe injury and even death (suspension trauma). Care should be taken about the length of the connector if used in a fall arrest system as this will influence the length of the fall. Use with wide straps may have the potential to reduce the overall strength of the connector.
Connectors should always be loaded in the working position only and not at the snap lock. The snap lock must close automatically and interlock, check this before every use. Connectors may only be used with closed and locked snap lock. Exterior pressure on the karabiner/connector will substantially reduce its loading strength; the locking sleeve may break or the snap lock open. The maximum tensile strength is drastically reduced with open snap lock. Additionally, note that the maximum tensile strength of the karabiner/connector may be reduced by use of wide ribbons or belts. If the connector is used in a fall arrest system, pay close attention to correct positioning of the connector as it will alter the length of the system and thereby may influence the fall distance. When using express slings, do not attach several karabiners to one and the same sling part. Before using a fall arrest system, ensure that the required vacant space (clear height and free of other obstacle in the fall path) below the user is available.
ANCHOR POINTS
Make sure to choose the anchor point position correctly, in order to limit the risk and the length of a fall. To prevent the high shock loads occurring in a pendulum fall, the anchor device for securing must always be located vertically above the person to be secured. The lanyard/anchor device between the attachment point and the secured person must be kept as tightly tensioned as possible. Avoid sagging of ropes! The attachment point must be designed such that attachment of a PPE will not result in influences reducing its loading strength or causing damage to it. Sharp edges, burrs and pinching may substantially impair the loading strength. Spots causing such damage may have to be covered with suitable auxiliary materials. The attachment point and the anchoring must be capable of withstanding the loads occurring in the worst conceivable case. Even if energy absorbers (to EN 355) are used as required by EN 363 (fall arrest systems), the minimum breaking strength of an anchor device has to be 12 kN, also refer to EN 795.

CLIMATE REQUIREMENTS
LIFE AND REPLACEMENT
The service life of the product mainly depends on the type and frequency of use as well as on external influences. When approaching the durability limits or at the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use. Products made of synthetic fibres (Polyamide, Polyester, Dyneema®, Aramid, Vectran®) are subject to some aging even if not used; their service life especially depends on the intensity of the ultraviolet radiation and other climatic conditions they are exposed to. When approaching the durability limits or the end of the maximum service life indicated, the product must be removed from use.
Material: Aluminium
Maximum service life
With optimum storage conditions and without use: No maximum service span.
Maximum lifetime in use
Providing proper use and no detectable sign of wear showing as well as under
optimum storage conditions: No maximum useful life.
Frequent use or extremely high loading may substantially reduce the useful life. Therefore, before use, check the product for possible damages and correct function. If any of the following applies (list non-exhaustive), remove the product from service immediately and turn it over to a qualified person or the manufacturer for inspection and/or repair. A written confirmation from an authorised body should be issued before further use is allowed:
- if there are doubts concerning safe use;
- if sharp edges have the potential to damage the rope of hurt the user;
- if visible signs of damage material (e.g. cracks, plastic deformation);
- if the material shows deep corrosion;
- if the gate does not shut fully and/or automatically;
- if the product has been subjected to a hard fall load or high shock loads occurring in a pendulum fall.
Inspection and documentation
In case of commercial use, the product must be inspected regularly or at least
once a year by the manufacturer, a qualified person or an approved inspection
body/agency; thereafter it may have to be serviced or removed from use.
Legibility of the markings has to be checked. Such inspections and service
must be documented for each product. The following information must be
recorded: Product identification and name, manufacturer’s name and contact
details, unique identification, date of manufacture, date of purchase, date of
initial use, date of next regular inspection, result of inspection, and
signature of qualified person responsible. The safety of the user depends upon
the continued efficiency and durability of the equipment. A suitable specimen
is found at www.edelrid.com. In case of commercial
use, the relevant information contained in this user manual must be made
available to each user before using the product.
STORAGE, MAINTENANCE AND TRANSPORT
Storage
Store cool, dry, and protected from daylight outside transport containers.
Prevent contact with chemicals and store without mechanical stress.
Maintenance (6.)
Clean contaminated products in hand warm water and rinse properly. Dry at room
temperature, never in dryers or near heaters/ radiators! Commercial
disinfectants based on alcohol (isopropanol) may be used if necessary. The
joints of metal parts must be cleansed regularly and then be lubricated with
acid-free oil or a lubricant based on Teflon or silicone.
Transport
The product must be kept away from chemicals, dirt and mechanical damage. For
this purpose, a protective bag or special storage and transport containers
should be used.
