Thank you for choosing the Lakeland Rice Cooker.
Please take a little time to read this booklet before getting started and keep it in a safe place for future reference.
The Rice Cooker will make one to two portions of fluffy rice or tasty porridge at the touch of a button. There is a delayed start function so that you can set the appliance 12 hours in advance. The automatic keep-warm will then keep everything hot until you’re ready to serve.

CONTROL PANEL

  1. RICE button and indicator light – press to select the rice program, the indicator light will illuminate red when in use.
  2. POWER/WARM button and indicator light – press to turn on the appliance it will go into ‘Standby’ function after 5 seconds. The Rice Cooker will automatically go into the ‘Keep Warm’ function when the program selected is completed. The light will illuminate red when in ‘Keep Warm’ and in the ‘Standby’ function.
  3. PORRIDGE button and indicator light – press to select the porridge program, the indicator light will illuminate red when in use.
  4. HOUR indicator light – illuminated to show how long in hours 1 to 24 hours in ‘Keep Warm’ function or 1 to 12 hours in ‘Delay Time’ it has been running.
  5. DIGITAL display panel – shows which function that the appliance is running.
  6. MINUTE indicator light – if this is illuminated it shows how long in minutes from 1 to 60 minutes in ‘Keep Warm’ function or 1 to 60 minutes in ‘Delay Time’ it has been running.
  7. DELAY TIME button – press this to delay the start of the cooking function from 1 to 12 hours. The default time if pressed is 4 hours. Continue pressing this to select the required hour. The light will illuminate red when the ‘Delay Time’ is in operation.

SAFETY CAUTIONS

Carefully read all the instructions before using the appliance and keep in a safe place for future reference. Always follow these safety cautions when using the appliance to avoid personal injury or damage to the appliance. This appliance should be used only as described in this instruction book.

  • This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be done by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised.

  • Make sure your electricity supply matches the voltage shown on the appliance.

  • Ensure all packaging materials and any promotional labels or stickers are removed from the appliance before the first use.

  • Always inspect the appliance before use for noticeable signs of damage. Do not use if damaged or has been dropped. In the event of damage, or if the appliance develops a fault contact the Lakeland customer care team on 015394 88100.

  • Do not use this appliance if the lead is damaged. If the lead is damaged it must be replaced with a special lead. Contact the Lakeland customer care team on 015394 88100.

  • Always use the appliance on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface.

  • Unplug from the mains when not in use and before cleaning. To disconnect, turn the socket to “off ” and remove the plug from the mains socket.

  • Do not use any accessories or attachments with this appliance other than those recommended by Lakeland.

  • To protect against fire, electric shock or personal injury, do not immerse cord, plug or lid in water or other liquids.

  • Do not leave the lead hanging over the edge of a kitchen table or worktop. Avoid contact between the lead and hot surfaces.

  • For indoor use only.

  • For domestic use only.

  • This appliance should be used for the preparation of food as described within the instructions for use that accompany it.

  • Always ensure that your hands are dry before removing the plug from the mains socket. Never pull the plug out of the mains socket by its lead.

  • To avoid injury or possible fire, do not cover the appliance when in use.

  • Do not connect this appliance to an external timer or remote control system.

  • An extension cable may be used with care. The electrical rating of the cable should be at least as great as the appliance. Do not allow the cable to hang over the edge of the worktop or touch any hot surfaces.

  • This appliance complies with the basic requirements of Directives 2014/30/EU
    (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive).

  • WARNING: A cut-off plug inserted into a 13amp socket is a serious safety (shock) Ensure the cut-off plug is disposed of safely.

  • CAUTION: The plastic bags used to wrap this appliance or the packaging may be To avoid risk of suffocation, keep these bags out of reach of babies and children. These bags are not toys.

  • Do not use the cooking pot if the non-stick coating is scratched, cracked or detached as this may cause overheating.

  • Keep the Rice Cooker away from hot ovens, gas burners, flames, and other hot surfaces.

  • Do not move or tilt the Rice Cooker when the cooking pot contains ingredients.

  • Allow the Rice Cooker to cool completely before moving, cleaning or storing.

  • Never fill the cooking pot with ingredients beyond the MAX mark, be careful when heating food that could froth. Do not operate empty.

  • If food is spilled inside the cooker, switch off and unplug at the socket, and allow to cool completely before cleaning (see Care and Cleaning).

  • The cooking pot of your Rice Cooker has a non-stick coating, do not use hard or sharp objects for stirring and or mixing food inside. Only use wooden or heat-resistant plastic utensils to stir and serve your food. Do not leave utensils inside the cooking pot during

  • Switch off and unplug the Rice Cooker and let it cool completely before touching these surfaces.
  • Take care when opening the Rice Cooker as burning hot steam can escape, and fat can spit which can burn. Steam will escape from the steam vent during cooking. Keep your face and hands away from the lid and steam vent in the lid during cooking and when opening.
  • Use oven gloves when removing the cooking pot from the Rice Cooker, and ensure you place it on a heat-resistant board.

USING YOUR RICE COOKER FOR THE FIRST TIME

Warning: Do not insert the plug into a socket and turn on the Rice Cooker until you have fully assembled it.

  • Unpack the Rice Cooker, remove all the packaging materials, including the accessories inside the cooker.
  • Before first use, wipe the outer surfaces and inside of the lid with a clean damp cloth.
  • Wash the cooking pot and accessories in hot soapy water and dry thoroughly.
  • Make sure that all parts are clean and dry before assembling the product.
  • During the first use of the appliance an odor may develop, this is normal and will disappear with use.
  • Place the Rice Cooker on a stable, heat-resistant work surface, at least 20cm away from walls and at least 1 meter from the ceiling, to allow sufficient airflow. Never operate the Rice Cooker under cabinets or lighting to avoid damage caused by steam, heat, splashes, and condensation.
  • Put the cooking pot inside the cooker.
  • Slot the end of the power cord into the socket on the side of the Rice Cooker.
  • The Rice Cooker is now ready to use.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  • Prepare the ingredients according to the recipe following the quantities carefully. Place these evenly in the cooking pot and insert them into the cooker. Please make sure that all ingredients, including liquids, are below the maximum mark on the inside of the pot.
  • Place the cooking pot into the Rice Cooker ensuring that the cooking pot is firmly in contact with the heating element.
  • Place on the rice cooker lid and close the locking clips on either side. Plugin the appliance at the socket and switch it on.
  • When you plug in and turn on the power supply, the appliance beeps once and the display panel and all the indicator lights will flash once and then enter Standby When the appliance goes into Standby function, no indicator lights will show and the display panel will show .

AUDIBLE BEEP

  • A beep will sound when the appliance is connected to a power supply, buttons are pressed and the cooking cycle has finished.

CANCELLATION OF A SETTING

  • If you have pressed the wrong function or setting and wish to get back the Standby function to start again, press the POWER/WARM button once and the Rice Cooker will go back into the Standby function showing on the display panel.

DELAY TIME START

  • You can delay the start of cooking your rice or porridge from 1 to 12 hours.
  • Once you have turned the appliance on, select either the RICE or PORRIDGE.
  • Press the DELAY TIME button within 5 seconds and the appliance will enter into the delayed start function. The default time is 4 hours and the LED light will illuminate red by the HOUR indicator.
  • Continue pressing the DELAY TIME button and it will go through the hours from 1 to 12 hours.
  • During the last hour of the delayed start function, the hour light indicator will go out and the minute light indicator will illuminate red and count down the final hour in
  • When the delayed start function has finished, the appliance will automatically go into the selected program for cooking your rice or porridge.
  • Do not use the delay start function if cooking perishables such as fresh milk.

KEEP WARM

  • When the rice or porridge programs have finished, if no buttons are pressed within 5 seconds, the appliance will automatically enter the Keep Warm function. The WARM indicator light will show red.
  • The display panel will start to count up, in minutes and then hours, the time the appliance has been in Keep Warm function.
  • The maximum time for this function is 24 hours. Please note that more than 4 hours is not recommended. The appliance will beep 5 times and resume to the Standby function after the Keep Warm function is completed.

AUTO MEMORY

  • If the power fails, the appliance will return to the same function it was in prior to the power failure. This will only happen if the power failure is less than 2

INTELLIGENT HEATING AND COUNTDOWN

  • For cooking Rice — white or brown, the Rice Cooker uses an intelligent microcomputer heating control to ensure delicious results. As your favorite rice is cooking, this smart cooking feature continually monitors the temperature to automatically adjust the cooking time and temperature for evenly prepared food.
  • The countdown timer will appear on the Rice Cooker at the last 6 minutes, it will beep twice and then countdown the final minutes. At the end of the countdown timer, the Rice Cooker will beep 5 times and then go into Keep Warm function.

REMOVAL OF RICE COOKER LID

  • When the Rice Cooker has finished cooking your food, it will beep 5 times to indicate that it has finished.
  • Press the POWER/WARM button to switch off and unplug the appliance from the

COOKING PROGRAMMES

Here is an overview of the cooking programs and which type of foods these should be used for. The table below will help you select which program you require:

RICE

  • Measure your rice according to the instructions on the packet or with the measuring cup provided. The volume of the measuring cup is 180m1/135g, when you fill the cup level flat to the top. Do not fill the cooking pot above the MAX malk level.
  • Wash the rice until the water is relatively clear and place it into the cooking pot. Do not wash the rice in the cooking pot, as this is abrasive and may scratch the non-stick
  • Add water according to the instructions on the packet. In principle 1 cup of rice to 1 cup of water.
  • Place the cooking pot into the main unit, place the rice cooker lid on top and close the locking clips.
  • Plugin the appliance and switch it on at the socket.
  • Press the POWER/ WARM button and the appliance will go into the Standby function.
  • Press the RICE button, the appliance will beep once. The rice indicator light will light up and will display on the display panel. The indicator lights will snake in a clockwise direction to indicate cooking has begun.
  • Using intelligent heating technology, the countdown timer will show during the last 6 minutes of cooking.
  • When the Rice Cooker has completed cooking it will beep 5 times and then go into Keep Warm function for up to 24 hours.
  • We advise that you DO NOT keep rice warm for more than 4 hours as the flavor will start to deteriorate.
  • We recommend that you stir the rice before serving to make it soft and fluffy with a nylon or silicone utensil so as not to damage the cooking pot.

TIP: Too much rice in the Rice Cooker to water will be harder and too little rice will be softer and watery.

PORRIDGE

  • Wash porridge oats thoroughly until the water is clear.
  • Grease the cooking pot with a little butter before cooking.
  • If you want to reduce or increase the ingredients, do this proportionally and do not exceed the maximum5 cup mark inside the cooking pot.
  • We recommend a ratio of 1:2 (1 cup of porridge oats to 2 cups of water or milk), using the measuring cup supplied. Do not fill the pan above the MAX malk level.
  • Place the cooking pot into the main unit, place the rice cooker lid on top and close the locking clips.
  • Plug in the appliance and switch it on at the

  • Press the PORRIDGE button, the appliance will beep once. The porridge indicator light will illuminate red and flash 5 times. The display panel will then show 60 on the display and the minute indicator light will illuminate and start to countdown.
  • When the Rice Cooker has completed cooking it will beep 5 times and then go into Keep Warm function for up to 24 hours.
  • We advise that you DO NOT keep porridge for more than 2 hours as the flavor will start to deteriorate.
  • Stir before serving.

TIP: We recommend making porridge with pasteurized milk with a low-fat content to avoid the milk boiling.

ERROR MESSAGES

If a fault occurs, the appliance automatically disconnects the heating element and all the buttons become invalid. The appliance will beep 10 times, all the LED Lights will turn on and the display panel will show one of the following:

El Bottom sensor short circuit
E2 Short circuit
ES Overheated

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: Why are no indicator lights illuminated?
Answer: Check that there is no debris underneath the cooking pot on top of the heating plate, if so remove the debris. Replace the cooking bowl.
There may be damage to the heating plate or the power cable. Make sure that the Rice Cooker is properly connected to the cable, plugged in, and switched on at the wall socket.
Question: Why is water overflowing when I am using the appliance?
Answer: You may have put too much water inside the cooking pot. Do not fill above the MAX mark.
Question: Why is my rice too dry and hard after cooking?
Answer: There is not enough water in the cooking pot to start.
Question: Why is my rice too moist and soggy after cooking?
Answer: There is too much water in the cooking pot to start
Question: Why is the bottom layer of rice browned or crispy at the bottom?
Answer: The rice is not cleaned, wash the rice in water before you add it to the cooking pot.

CARE AND CLEANING

  • Unplug the Rice Cooker, remove the power cord and let it cool completely before
  • Clean thoroughly before using for the first time and after every use.
  • Check the parts for wear or damage after every few uses.
  • The steam vent inside the lid is removable for cleaning. When the lid is removed the detachable steam vent can be removed to be cleaned.
  • Remove and wash the cooking pot, steam vent, detachable lid and accessories in hot soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not wash any parts in the dishwasher.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, scourers or steel wool when cleaning the cooking pot.
  • Stubborn residue can be removed with a soft sponge or soft nylon brush and warm If food has cooked onto the bottom of the cooking pot, fill with hot soapy water and leave to soak for 10 minutes before cleaning.
  • Never immerse the base in water or any other liquid.
  • To clean the outer surfaces, wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry thoroughly before

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

The appliance is fitted with a fused three-pin plug to B51363 which is suitable for use in all homes fitted with sockets to current specifications.

CHANGING THE 3 AMP FUSE

Use a 3 amp BS1362 fuse. Only B51 or ASIA-approved fuses should be used. If you are unsure which plug or fuse to use, always refer to a qualified electrician.

Note: after replacing or changing a fuse on a molded plug that has a fuse cover, the cover must be refitted to the plug; the appliance must not be used without a fuse cover. If lost, replacement fuse covers can be obtained from an electrical shop. This appliance complies with the following EU Directives: 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive) and 2014/30/EU (EMC Directive).
