KOGAN SMARTERHOME™ SMART TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY SENSOR (WI-FI)

SAFETY & WARNINGS

Read all instructions and safety notes before first use. Retain this guide for future reference.

  • Do not use in an environment with humidity over 90%.
  • Do not use in an environment with temperature lower than -10°C.
  • To conserve battery this product has been set with a 30 second upload delay.

OVERVIEW

CONNECT TO SMARTERHOME™ APP

Install App
Download the “Kogan SmarterHome” app from the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).

Register
If you do not have a Kogan SmarterHome™ account, register or sign in with a verification code sent by SMS.

To Register

  1. Tap to enter registration page.
  2. The system automatically recognises your country/area. You can also select your country code manually. Enter your email address and tap ‘Next.’
  3.  Alternatively, you can select ‘Register by mobile number’ and enter the verification code sent to you by SMS.
  4. Create a profile on the next page to define your location and room.

Set device in pairing mode
Open the battery compartment and install two (2) AAA batteries and close. Alternatively, this product can be powered using a USB cable.
When the device is first turned on, it may automatically enter pairing mode (device will beep).
If not automatically in pairing mode, you can manually set the device in pairing mode by using a pin to press the reset button for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi icon begins flashing or the device ‘Beeps’.

Add device through network

  1. Once registered, tap “+” in the upper right corner of the app’s home page to add a new device through the network.

  2. Select the product type from the list of options in the app (Sensor > Thermostat).

  3. Ensure that the device is in pairing mode, with the Wi-Fi icon flashing rapidly and tap “Confirm indicator rapidly blink”.

  4. Upon successfully confirming pairing mode, enter your Wi-Fi details. It is important that your SmarterHome™ device and the app are connected to the same Wi-Fi network during setup.

  5. The device will commence the pairing process and connect to the app. Ensure your Wi-Fi router, mobile phone, and the SmarterHome™ device are kept close until connection is complete.

  6. After successfully being added, you will have the option to rename the device and assign it to a location. It will now be listed on the app’s home page. Tap the device listing to enter its control page.

Notes:

  • The device and the app have to use the same Wi-Fi network.
  • The device is only compatible with 2.4Ghz networks.

Add device through Bluetooth

5. Ensure that the device is in pairing mode (Wi-Fi icon flashing or the device ‘Beeps’).
6. Connect your smartphone to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
7. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
8. Open the “Kogan SmarterHome” app.
9. Tap “+” in the upper right corner of the app’s home page to add a new device through the network.
10. The app will automatically detect the device, tap “Go to add”.
11. If the device doesn’t appear automatically, please select it in the device list and follow the prompt to detect/connect your device.
12. The device will commence the pairing process and connect to the gateway and app. Ensure your Wi-Fi router, mobile phone, and the SmarterHome™ device are kept close until connection is complete.
13. After successfully being added, you will have the option to rename the device and assign it to a location. It will now be listed on the app’s home page. Tap the device listing to enter its control page.

If the above two methods aren’t successful, use ‘AP Mode’ to add device
5. Remove and re-insert the batteries then use a pin to press the reset button for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi icon begins flashing rapidly. Press the reset button for another 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi icon begins flashing slowly.
6. Once registered, tap “+” in the upper right corner of the app’s home page to add a new device through the network.
7. Select the product type from the list of options in the app (Sensor > Thermostat), and then select “Other Mode” from the top-right corner when asked to reset the device.

8. Select “AP Mode” for the set-up type.
9. Ensure that the device is in pairing mode, with the Wi-Fi icon flashing slowly and tap “Confirm indicator slowly blink”.
10. Enter your Wi-Fi details. It is important that your SmarterHome™ device and the app are connected to the same Wi-Fi network during setup.

11. Follow the in-app prompts to continue AP Mode connection, which will pair your mobile phone to the device’s Wi-Fi hotspot to ensure a connection.
Note:
If the Wi-Fi hotspot does not appear on your phone in the list of available networks, your device may not be set in AP Pairing Mode correctly. Try repeating the steps outlined above to ensure your device is ready for connection.
12. The device will commence the pairing process and connect to the app. Ensure your Wi-Fi router, mobile phone, and the SmarterHome™ device are kept close until connection is complete.
13. After successfully being added, you will have the option to rename the device and assign it to a location. It will now be listed on the app’s home page. Tap the device listing to enter its control page.

OPERATION

Setting up automation

  1. Tap the Temperature and Humidity sensor icon in the app’s device list.

  2. Tap “Smart”’ then click “+” at ‘Condition (Any Condition is Met)’

  3. When prompted tap “When device status changes”.

  4. Select the desired function and set the condition. For example, set ‘Temperature alarm’ > choose ‘High Temperature alarm’.

  5. Tap “+” in the ‘Task’ section or “Add Task” then select “Run the device”.

  6. Choose your desired smart device from the list.

  7. Select the desired function of the device tap “Save” and then “Next”.

  8. Follow the prompts on the app and rename the automation by tapping ‘Name’.

  9. Tap “Style” and select a colour for the automation then tape “Save”.

  10. When prompted ‘Automation created. Start using it?’, tap “Yes” to finish.

Turning automation on and off

  1. Tap the Temperature and Humidity sensor icon in the app’s device list.
  2. Tap “Smart”, the switch on the lower right corner of the automation window is ON by default. Use the button to toggle between the ON and OFF state.

Editing and delete the automation
Tap “Smart” on the sensor’s control page, at the upper right corner of the automation window then tap “…” in circle to edit or delete the automation.

Wi-Fi reset
Press and hold the ‘RESET’ button for 5 seconds or until till the device emits a ‘Beep’.

Alarm switch
The alarm switch is used to turn the alarm tone ON or OFF.

Firmware upgrade

  • When new firmware is available, the app will display ‘new device firmware found’, tap “Upgrade now”, the device will turn on the ‘Automatically keep the device up to date’ option and begin updating.
  • If the device goes to sleep, press the reset button to wake up the device. The update should finish in approximately 30 seconds.
  • If the update fails, press and hold the reset button until you hear a ‘Beep’. The device will resume updating.
  • Once the update is successful, the device will display the current temperature and humidity.
