STEP 2: Attach the microphone to your clothing.

  • Insertthe LR44 battery into the battery compartment and close/tighten to secure.
  • Clipthe microphone to the front of your/your subject’s clothing, with the clip positioned about 6 inches (15-20 cm) from the subject’s face.
  • Themicrophone cable is 6  long and suitable to clip to shirts, ties, jackets, collars, and more.

STEP 3: Connect the microphone to a recording device.

RECORDING WITH A CAMERA:

  1. Plugthe 5mm connector into the audio input jack located on your DSLR, Point and Shoot camera, or camcorder.
  2. Attachthe microphone to your clothing (see Step 2).
  3. Locatethe switch on the unit’s power  Position the switch to the Camera (on) setting. You can now begin filming and recording audio.

NOTE: Not all cameras feature a microphone input; this should first be verified with your camera manufacturer. Many camera models also feature multiple ports for headphones, remote controls, and other accessories, any of which may resemble a microphone input. Consult your camera’s manufacturer user guide to ensure that you’re using the correct port.

RECORDING WITH A SMARTPHONE:

  1. Plugthe 5mm connector into the audio input jack located on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Attachthe microphone to your clothing (see Step 2).
  3. Checkthat the microphone power module switch is set to the Smartphone (off) setting before connecting the unit to your smartphone.
  4. Turn on your smartphone and record a short audio segment to ensure the unit is working properly. Do this by pressing the “Record” button on your audio or video recording app, then speak or sing to test.

TIPS FOR PLACEMENT & USE:

  • Avoid placing the microphone too close to the user’s neck or too far away from their face.
  • Wheneverpossible, affix the microphone so that the cable hangs down the user’s back instead of their front; doing so helps hide the cable and prevents the cable from rustling from regular movement. It also may prevent distractions and provide a more comfortable experience for the user.
  • You may use medical tape to safely adhere the microphone /cable to the user’s skin if desired for extra stability.
  • You may also find it helpful to tape a loose loop of the microphone cable to the inside of your clothing. This provides additional slack for the cable and isolation from unwanted background noise.

REPLACING THE BATTERY:

STEP 1: Unscrew the two connecting parts of the power module and separate the pieces as shown.

STEP 2: Remove the old battery from its compartment in the power module.

  • Youmay wish to use a nonmetallic object, such as a toothpick, to gently lift the battery up and out of the power module. Do not push the battery side-to-side while lifting it, or it will become stuck to the inside of the compartment.

STEP 3: Place the new battery in the power module, with the + and – polarity symbols oriented as shown (the + symbol is stamped inside the battery compartment for reference).

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM   POSSIBLE **SOLUTION(S)**

The microphone will not turn on.| The battery may be positioned incorrectly inside the battery compartment. Open the compartment and make sure the battery is correctly installed and polarity symbols are aligned.
The battery may have low power. Replace it with a new battery (see Specifications section for compatible styles).
The battery terminals may be dirty. Open the battery compartment and carefully clean the terminals with a clean cotton swab.
The battery discharges too quickly.| The microphone has been left on (in the Camera position). Turn off the microphone by moving the switch to the Smartphone (off) position.
You may be using the unit in extremely hot or cold conditions. Poor operating conditions like this will drain the battery quickly.
The unit picks up too much ambient noise.| Check that the microphone is placed as close to the subject (speaker) as possible. (Some ambient noise is unavoidable and should be expected when used in loud environments.).
Reposition and attach the microphone to clothing upside-down. This reduces excessive noise from breathing and tonal inconsistencies caused by head movements.
The microphone will not record audio.| Make sure that the 3.5 mm connector is connected to your recording device’s input/AUX jack (see diagram for reference).
Make sure that the 3.5 mm connector is fully inserted into the audio jack. If your smartphone or tablet uses a case, you may need to remove the case first for the unit to be fully inserted.
Make sure that your device is recording audio (and that any app you use is working properly).
