Safety instructions

  • Please read the instructions carefully before using the unit and save them for future reference. If you pass this unit to another person, make sure to include this manual.

  • Only use the unit as described in this user manual. Any mishandling or use contrary to these instructions will relieve the manufacturer or retailer of any liability.

  • Warning! Failure to follow the safety and operating instructions may result in a risk of electric shock, fire and/or injury to persons.

  • Warning! Never use a damaged unit! If the unit has been exposed to water, dropped, damaged or starts to operate in a significantly different manner, unplug it from the mains socket and contact an authorized repair service.

  • Never use accessories or parts from another manufacturer, as this will automatically null and void the guarantee and could also damage the unit and/or cause injury. Only use accessories recommended by the manufacturer.

  • This unit may be used by children aged 8 years and above, persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities, and persons with no experience of using or knowledge of the unit, provided they are properly supervised or receive prior instruction regarding how to safely use the unit and understand the risks involved. The unit must not be cleaned, moved, maintained or connected to the power source by children under the age of 8.

  • Make sure children do not play with any part of the unit.

  • Keep the unit out of the reach of children under 8 years old when it is turned on. The unit should not be left unattended when connected to the power supply. When not in use, always make sure that the unit is turned off and disconnected from the power supply.

  • Children under the age of 3 should be kept away from the unit and must be constantly supervised if they are in the same vicinity as the unit while it is in use or cooling down after use.

  • Children aged 3 to 8 years may only switch on/off the unit, provided that it has been placed or installed in its intended normal operating position and they are supervised or have received prior instruction regarding how to safely use the unit and understand the risks involved. Children aged 3 to 8 years must not plug in, adjust, clean or perform maintenance on the unit.

  • Warning! Parts of this unit may become very hot and cause burns. Make sure that children or persons of reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities are supervised and protected from accidental burns. In order to avoid any injury or burn, do not touch the heater anywhere except on the handle, control panel or knobs. Use gloves or other means.

  • Risk of fire/electrocution! To prevent the risk of fire or electric shock:

    • Do not use the heater in a bathroom, in a humid environment, or near to a body of water such as a swimming pool. Install the unit at least 1.5 metres away from any water source.
    • Do not immerse the unit in water or any other liquid. Never expose the unit to running water.
    • Do not try to disassemble or repair the unit yourself. In the event of a malfunction, repairs should only be carried out by qualified personnel. The unit contains parts that could give you an electric shock or cause burns.
    • Do not place this unit near any flammable materials (suchas curtains or furniture) or liquids. Make sure it is positioned away from all sources of potential fire hazards (whether at the front, rear or sides of the unit).
    • Do not use the unit in places such as garages or warehouses where dangerous flammable products are stored (e.g. paints, thinners, alcohol etc.).
    • Do not use the unit when your hands are wet or you are standing on a wet floor. Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
    • Do not place, store or use the unit near any heat sources or open flames, such as a candle. Do not place any liquid-filled objects – e.g. a vase – near the unit.
  • This symbol means that the unit should not be covered.
    Warning! To avoid overheating, do not cover the unit or the inlet/outlet vents.

    • To prevent overheating, do not obstruct the ventilation vents with any items such as wet laundry, newspapers, tablecloths, and curtains. Ensure the unit is well-ventilated at all times. Leave at least a 1-metre space around the unit.
      Warning! Place the unit on a stable, flat and dry surface.
  • Do not install or store the unit:

    • on an uneven surface such as a carpet or unstable surface.
    • near open flames, such as lit candles.
    • in a place that may come into direct sunlight.
    • near heat sources, such as stoves, radiators or gas/electric heaters.
    • near or on other significant heat-generating equipment.
    • near electric cables, water pipes or gas pipes.
    • in places subject to constant vibration.
    • in dusty or humid environments.
    • in areas where there are objects near the unit.
    • below an electrical socket.
  • Always use the heater in the upright position. Never use the unit if it has fallen over.

  • Applicable to the VAL-CH20 model: Follow the assembly instructions in the user manual to fix the wheels securely onto the heater.

  • As long as the device remains connected to the mains power socket it is not disconnected from the power supply, even if it is turned off. The device must be completely unplugged when not in use, before assembling/disassembling, moving, storing, cleaning, or maintaining.

  • Use this unit only for the purpose intended. The unit is not intended for commercial use. This unit has been designed exclusively for household and indoor use.

  • The unit is not intended to be put into operation by means of an external timer or by a system of remote control.

  • Applicable to the VAL-CH20 model:
    Warning! This unit is not equipped with a means to control the ambient temperature. Do not use this unit in small rooms or rooms occupied by people unable to leave the premises unassisted, unless they are constantly supervised.

  • Do not use the unit as a heating device for storage spaces or environments where animals and plants are kept.

  • Applicable to the VAL-CH20 model:
    Warning! This unit is classified as Class I. To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire or injury, it must be connected to a properly earthed mains socket. Do not use an adapter.

  • Applicable to the VAL-FH20, VAL-H&F20 and VAL-PTC20 models:
    Warning! This unit is classified as Class II. This unit boasts reinforced insulation and does not require an earth connection.

  • Before connecting the unit to the power supply, make sure that the voltage of the power supply and the rated voltage match the power specifications on the unit’s rating plate. To avoid any risk of electrocution, only connect plugs that fit correctly and directly into the mains power socket. Only use power sockets that are earthed.

  • Do not use multi-sockets or put other appliances with a high power output on the same circuit.

  • Check the power cable regularly for any visible damage. If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its after-sales service or a similarly qualified person in order to prevent any risks.

  • Always check to make sure the power cable is not crushed or bent. Keep the power cable away from any open flames and hot surfaces, including the unit’s body.

  • Position the cable in such a way that it cannot pose a tripping hazard or be stepped on by accident. Do not cover the power cable or place it under a heavy object.

  • Do not use an extension lead as the unit may overheat and become a fire risk.

  • Plug the unit into an easily-accessible power socket. In the event of an emergency, quickly unplug the plug from the power socket to turn the unit off.

  • Do not pull on the power cable to unplug it.

  • Do not open the case of the unit. Do not insert any foreign body into the unit. Never hit or scratch the exterior of the unit as this may lead to cracks or rust on the unit.

  • If objects or liquids get inside the unit, unplug it and contact your authorised service agent.

  • To clean your unit, turn it off and disconnect the plug from the mains power socket. Then use a soft, damp cloth to remove any dirt and dust. Do not use abrasive liquids or corrosive products, as these could damage your unit.

  • The unit must be installed in accordance with local and national regulations.

Battery-related safety instructions (applicable to the VAL-PTC20 model only):

  • Disposal of a battery into a fire or a hot oven, or mechanically crushing or cutting of a battery, can result in an explosion.

    • During use: -10 to +45 °C
    • Storage: -10 to +45 °C
    • Transport: -10 to +45 °C
  • Leaving a battery in an extremely high temperature surrounding environment that can result in an explosion or the leakage of flammable liquid or gas.
  • A battery subjected to the extremely low air pressure may result in an explosion or the leakage of flammable liquid or gas.
  • To ensure optimum battery performance, use the unit in locations that have an ambient temperature.

Warning! Risk of explosion!

  • The batteries must be replaced with an identical or equivalent model and inserted the correct way around.
  • Never mix new and used batteries, or non-rechargeable and rechargeable batteries.
  • Do not expose the batteries to heat sources, such as sunlight or open flames. Do not place the unit on top of other heatemitting appliances, such as radiators or fridges.
  • To reduce the risk of fire, burns, explosion or the release of harmful substances, batteries should never be charged or otherwise reactivated, disassembled, incinerated, burned, buried, crushed, punctured or short-circuited.

Warning! Do not ingest the batteries: risk of chemical burns.

Keep new and used batteries out of the reach of children.

  • If you ever suspect that batteries may have been swallowed or inserted into any part of the body, please seek immediate medical advice.

  • If the battery compartment does not close correctly, stop using the remote control and keep it out of children’s reach.

  • Should the batteries leak, use a cloth to remove them from the battery compartment. If acid leaks from the batteries, avoid contact with the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Should you accidentally come into contact with battery acid, rinse the affected zone and seek medical advice.
    Warning! Do not allow children to replace batteries without adult supervision.

  • Immediately remove old or used batteries from the unit.

  • Remove the batteries whenever the unit will not be used for a long period of time.

  • Batteries must be stored in a well-ventilated, cool and dry place.

  • Do not throw batteries out with household waste. Dispose of the batteries in accordance with current regulations.

Disposing of your old device

SEPARATE COLLECTIONS FOR ELECTRONIC AND ELECTRICAL DEVICES

This product must not be disposed of or recycled with other household waste when it reaches the end of its useful life.
The product and its packaging should be collected and recycled separately from other waste.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH MY WASTE?

Please dispose of your waste in accordance with the advice below to reduce the impact of your new purchase on the environment. You are legally responsible for separating the waste associated with this product (and any accessories) so that it can be recycled, including any instructions or/or packaging. Electric and electronic appliances should not be sorted or recycled together with other household waste.
Keep used products and packaging out of the reach of children, as they can pose a safety hazard. Please retain the instructions and any other notices throughout the service life of the device, and include these documents with the device if it is passed on to third party. For packaging and other notices, please refer to the recycling instructions on the main packaging, and to the advice available on the Internet.

If you do not have Internet access, please contact your local authority for advice on how to sort and recycle your waste.

For your children’s safety, please store your old devices in a safe place outside your home until they are collected.

SEPARATE COLLECTIONS FOR BATTERIES

The batteries must be changed in accordance with current disposal regulations. Please take the used batteries to a dedicated recycling centre, in order for them to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

  • To reduce the risk of fire or burns, never disassemble, burn, bury, crush, drill or shortcircuit batteries.
  • Do not throw the batteries out with household waste.
  • To preserve the environment, dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations.

WARRANTY CONDITIONS

This product is guaranteed against faults caused by defects in manufacturing or the materials used for a period of two years, starting from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover defects or damage caused by failure to install the device correctly, incorrect use of the product, or excessive wear and tear.
