Riding Safety

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Only use this product for the purpose for which it was designed. In order to master riding skills, the rider needs to practice. Neither Ninebot (Ninebot (Beijing) Tech Co., Ltd. or its subsidiaries and affiliates) nor Segway Inc. is responsible for injuries or damage caused by a rider’s inexperience or failure to follow the instructions in the user manual.

  • Please follow local regulations and only ride on the roads as permitted by law.
  • For your safety, please DO NOT modify the E-bike or change parts by yourself.
  • Tampering with the E-bike (i.e. exchange of sprocket with non original parts) could lead to operation failure. Any accidents resulting from unauthorized tampering is the rider’s responsibility.
  • The A-weighted emission sound pressure level at the driver’s ears is less than 70 dB(A).

WARNING
When using this product, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all the instructions before using the product.
  • To reduce the risk of injury, close supervision is necessary when the product is used near children.
  • DO NOT put fingers or hands into the product.
  • DO NOT use this product if the flexible power cord or output cable is frayed, has broken insulation, or any other signs of damage.
  • DO NOT allow anyone to ride the E-bike on his/her own unless he/she understands the proper operation and safety warnings. Assist new riders until they are comfortable with the basic operation of the E-bike.
  • Make sure the headlight is on when driving at night.

Riding Environment Requirement:

  • Only ride on a flat paved surface. It is not recommended to use in off-road conditions.
  • Slow down when riding on complicated road conditions. The following behaviors can lead to falls, collisions, or even death: riding at a high speed to cross over obstacles, on uneven/slippery/loose ground, steep slope, or at sharp turns.
  • DO NOT ride in bad weather such as heavy rain, storm, or snow. When riding in rainy or snowy weather, the traction is reduced and the braking distance is increased. For your safety, please ride slower and brake earlier to reduce the risks for loss of control.

WARNING
Riding on complex terrains or weather conditions can lead to falls, collisions, causing serious injury.

Who Should Not Ride:

People in the following groups should not ride the E-bike:

  1.  Anyone under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicants.
  2. Anyone who suffers from diseases that put them at risk if they engage in strenuous physical activity.
  3. Anyone whose height and/or weight is outside the stated limits (See Specifications).

Preparations before Riding:

  • Make sure there are no loose fasteners and damaged parts. The pedals should be attached firmly.
  • The rider must adjust the saddle height to his/her height (see Learn to Ride).
  • Check the status of power supply circuit, lighting, dashboard display, etc. and make sure they work normally.
  • The front and rear brakes should function properly.
  • Make sure the handlebar is stable, and that the front and rear wheels are not shaky or loose.
  • Make sure the reflector is not damaged or dirty.
  • The rider must wear a helmet as approved by local regulations, as well as other protective gear. Wear comfortable shoes when riding. DO NOT wear loose-fitting clothes because they can get stuck in the wheels.
  • When the battery is low, please charge immediately.
  • Check the degree of wear on tire tread, the brake pads, etc. Replace the rim if it is worn.

Instructions on Riding and Usage:

  • DO NOT accelerate or brake abruptly when riding.
  • Please hold the handlebar with both hands to avoid serious injuries due to loss of balance or falling.
  • Stay alert and always keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Slow down when entering a new environment.
  • DO NOT use a cell phone, camera, headphones, earbuds, or perform any other activities while riding.
  • Slow down when approaching intersections, motorways, corners, doors, etc. Yield the right of way for pedestrians and other vehicles.
  • If any abnormality occurs, stop riding immediately and contact the after-sales service in time. DO NOT ride before the cause of the abnormality is found out and repaired.

To turn, shift your body weight and turn the handlebar slightly towards the direction you are going.

How to adjust the height:
Pull the seat post clamp outwards, adjust the saddle to the proper height and angle, and then close the clamp to secure the saddle.
When closed to the locked position, the clamp and the saddle should be stable.

  1. Braking
Brake by squeezing the brake lever. It is recommended to engage both brake levers at the same time.

WARNING
When braking abruptly, you risk serious injury due to loss of traction and falls. Maintain a moderate speed and look out for potential hazards.

  1. Lock the E-bike
Wrap the lock cable around a fixture and then insert the lock head into the lock hole to secure the E-bike. After locking, if there is abnormal movement, when the bike falls or crashes, a continuous alarm will start.

Cleaning
Wash with water and neutral detergent and use a soft and wet cloth to clean.

CAUTION

  • DO NOT clean with alcohol, gasoline, acetone, or other corrosive/volatile solvents. These substances may damage the appearance and internal structure of your bike. DO NOT rub with sandpaper or metal brush.

WARNING
Before cleaning, make sure the E-bike is powered off. Always remove the battery during maintenance

Moving and Storage
Store in a dry and cool place and avoid sunlight and rain, so as not to rust parts and shorten the service life. Fully charge the battery before long-time storage to prevent over-discharge.
Before lifting, moving, or otherwise transporting E-bike, make sure it’s powered off; Handle with care and avoid violent force, such as throwing and heavy pressure. Keep away from fire and water.

Battery
The storage temperature for the battery depends on how long the E-bike is to be stored: -4–140°F (-20–60°C) for one month;
-4–113°F (-20–45°C) for three months and -4–68°F (-20–20°C) for 12 months.
If you are not going to use the E-bike for a long time, take out the battery after it is fully charged, place it in a dry and well-ventilated place, and charge it every two months.

WARNING

  • DO NOT disassemble the battery pack. There is a danger of electric shock, short circuit, fire, explosion, or injury to persons.
  • For information about battery and electrical waste, please contact your household waste disposal service, your local or regional waste management office, or your point-of-sale.

Charger

  • DO NOT connect the charger to the power outlet for a long time. Unplug from the power outlet when not charging.

Lubrication

Lubricate the chains about every two weeks with bicycle-specific chain lube.

Chain Tension and Adjustment

The correct chain tension: with 3.5 oz (100 g) pressure, there should be 0.6–1.0 in (15–25 mm) free play between the chains.

How to adjust:
Loosen the axle nut on both sides, then adjust the bolt. When the proper free play is achieved, tighten the axle nuts. Make sure there is no abnormal noise and the wheels can turn freely. Tightening torque: 12–14 N·m

Chain Tension and Adjustment

Brakes and Friction Components

The drum brake needs to be adjusted by professional technicians. Only replace the friction components with the original spare parts. Please contact Segway- Ninebot after-sales service for details.
