Mic Usage/Mic Issues

The Stealth 700 for Xbox One has an adjustable mic. To use the mic, gently push (“flip”) the mic forwards. You will hear a tone (low high) when the mic itself is unmuted. When the mic is fully pushed forwards, the mic will “lock” into position. To mute the mic, just flip the mic back the other way. You will hear a tone (high low) when the mic is muted.

f other players are unable to hear you in Xbox Live Chat or on your Xbox One console, please check the following.

1. Check That The Headset And Console Are Paired/Mic Monitor is Functioning

The Headset and Console need to be paired to each other in order for the mic to work. Make sure that the Headset and Console have been successfully paired. To do so:

  1. Press the Xbox/Home button on the Xbox One controller.
  2. Go to  Settings >> All Settings >> Kinect  & Devices >> Devices  &   Accessories.
  3. You will see the controller you are currently using; you should be able to scroll to the right to see other devices being used with the Console. The headset will appear in this list as  “Headset”.
  4. As an additional test, speak into the mic. If the headset is paired, you should be able to hear your own voice through the headset. Can you hear yourself through the headset when you speak into the mic?

Please Note:  The Stealth 700 for Xbox One headset has both a Mic Monitor feature and an Active Noise Cancelling feature. If the ANC is activated, the Mic Monitor will be disabled. To make sure the ANC is not activated, quick- press the Power button. You should hear a tone (low high) when the ANC is deactivated. You should then hear yourself through the headset. If you hear a (high low) tone, the ANC has been activated, and a quick press of the Power button should deactivate it again.

If you can see the headset in the list of devices, and can hear yourself when you speak into the mic, proceed to the next test. If you do not see that headset listed, or you cannot hear yourself through the headset, please contact our  Support Team.

2. Party Test – Check for Icon Ring

  1. Press the Xbox/Home button on the Xbox One controller.
  2. Scroll to the  Party  tab, and select  “Start   A Party”.  You do not need to invite other players to this party; you can perform this test alone in the party.
  3. Speak into the mic. When you speak into the mic, does a ring light up around the icon next to your Gamertag (in the list of party members)? If so, continue to the Test Message.

If you don’t see that ring, please contact our  Support Team.

3. Record a Test Message

  1. Press the Xbox/Home button on the Xbox One controller.
  2. Scroll to  Messages >> New Conversation.
  3. Choose a friend from the list. You will not be sending this message, so you don’t have to choose a specific person.
  4. After you choose a person, two options will appear: Write a Message (pencil icon on left) and Record a Message (mic icon on right). Select the Record a   Message/Mic icon  on the right.
  5. Select  Record,  and then speak into the mic. When you are done recording, stop the recording.
  6. The new recording should appear under the Write a Message/Record a Message icons. Select  Play,  and listen to that recording you made. This will tell you how your voice will sound to other players. Can you hear your voice clearly?

If you can hear your voice clearly, the mic itself is working well.

If you cannot hear your voice clearly, please contact our  Support Team.

4. Bluetooth Test Call

*For this test, you will need a Bluetooth-compatible smartphone.

  1. Hold down the headset’s Bluetooth button until you hear the “Bluetooth Pairing” voice prompt.
  2. Connect to your headset in your phone’s Bluetooth Settings.
  3. Make a test call on the phone. Be sure to keep the phone covered and away from you, to make sure that the headset’s mic is the mic picking up the sound, and not the internal microphones in the smartphone itself.
  4. During that test call, could you be heard clearly when you spoke into the mic?

If you can be heard clearly during that test call, the mic itself is working well.

If you cannot be heard clearly during that test call, please contact our Support Team.

5. Power Cycle Headset/Console

To perform a quick power cycle with the Headset/Console, please do the following, in this order:

  1. Press and hold the  Power Button  on the Headset until the  Power LED  turns off.
  2. Power down the Xbox One Console. When it has fully powered down, unplug the Console from the wall outlet.
  3. Let everything sit for a minute.
  4. Plug the Console back in, and power the Console on again.
  5. Press and hold the  Power button  on the Headset until the  Power LED  lights up.
  6. Re-pair the Headset and Console. To do this:
    • First make sure the Headset is  powered on.
    • Then, press the  Pairing Button  on the Xbox One console. The  LED  on the front of the Console should start  blinking.
    • Then, press and hold the  Connect Button  on the Headset until the  LED  starts  flashing rapidly,  indicating that it is in pairing mode.
    • The Headset and Console will pair. When this happens, the Console will show a  “Headset Assigned”  message, and you should hear a tone. The Headset and Console LEDs will both be  solid. You should be able to test the mic again.

If the Power Cycle does not resolve this, please contact our  Support Team.

Update Firmware and Customize Controls

It is important to always run the most up-to-date firmware in order to enjoy the best audio experience.

The Turtle Beach Audio Hub will automatically check for the newest firmware and install the newest version if available.

The  Turtle Beach Audio Hub  is available for  Windows  and  Mac.

  1. Connect your  Stealth 700 for Xbox One  to your  PC/Mac  using the included  USB Cable.
  2. Open the  Turtle Beach Audio Hub app

At this point if your headset requires a new update you will be prompted to begin this process.

**Note:  This process may take a couple minutes. Do  not  disconnect your headset until the process is complete. **

Once the process is complete enroll your headset with your Xbox One.  The update process erases the Xbox Wireless connection so it is essential that this step is taken.  Detailed Steps available here.

Now you are able to adjust some of your Stealth 700 for Xbox One settings.

Mic Monitor –  This setting allows you to control how loud you hear yourself in the headset.  If this is turned down all the way you will not hear your own voice at all, while if you turn it up all the way you will hear your voice loudly through the headset.  When wearing over-ear style headphones this helps prevent you from yelling.  If this setting is turned up to the maximum level you may also hear some ambient noise from other sources of sound in your room.

Tones – This setting controls how loud the indication tones you hear in your headset play.  These are tones that play when toggling your EQ Presets, Superhuman Hearing, and when Powering On/Off. If this is set to the minimum you will not hear any indication tones.

Voice Prompts – This settings controls how loud the voice prompts that you hear in your headset play.  These prompts play when powering on the headset and using Bluetooth functions.

Audio Preset – Select a EQ Preset to enhance your listening experience.

  1. Signature Sound –  Turtle Beach tuned Natural Sound; hear your media just as the creators intended.
  2. Bass Boost –  Turn up the Bass; feel the deep sound effects in your games  and the punch of bass-heavy music tracks.
  3. Bass and Treble Boost –  Turn everything up; increased lows and highs give you more of everything for a more powerful audio experience.
  4. Vocal Boost –  Tune in to the vocals on music tracks and dialog in games and movies; make your characters and stories come alive.

Chat Boost – Turn this On to have Chat Audio automatically increase in volume when loud game sounds occur. A Turtle Beach feature that’s hard to live without!

Charging the Headset

The Stealth 700 for Xbox One uses a rechargeable battery, and comes with a USB Charge Cable. You can use this included USB Charge Cable to charge the headset with your Xbox One console.

If you have not already done so, please make sure to  update the headset’s firmware.

CHARGING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Plug the Micro-USB end of the USB Charge Cable into the headset.
  2. Plug the USB end of the USB Charge Cable into a free USB port on the console itself.
  3. The headset will charge to full within 3-4 hours.
    • If the headset is powered on when it is plugged in to charge, the LED will change from Red to Green when charging is complete.
    • If the headset is powered off when it is plugged in to charge, the LED will turn off when charging is complete.

The headset will charge to full within 3-4 hours.

Once charged, the headset will have a battery life of up to 15 hours.

Be sure to charge the headset regularly. Always charge your headset before storing it for any extended period of time (greater than 3 months). Never store the unit above temperatures of 113°F/45°C.

Mobile/VR Mode

The Stealth 700 for Xbox One features a 3.5mm headset jack, which can be used with the Mobile Cable (Mobile Cable not included with headset, available here ). This connection is meant for use with Mobile Devices or VR systems.

Connect your headset directly to your chosen device via that Mobile Cable. When used with a wired connection, the headset’s Xbox One Wireless connection will shut down to conserve battery life.

For audio playback and microphone capability, the headset must be powered on when using this mobile cable connection. As long as there is an audio signal being played through the headset itself (even just the game’s soundtrack), the headset should remain powered on until the battery is low and the headset needs to be charged. If there is no audio played through the headset for 15 consecutive minutes, the headset’s  Auto- Shutdown  will engage, and the headset will power off completely.

In this mode Bluetooth will still be available so that you are able to listen to music or take phone calls during your VR experience.

When in this mode the volume controls on the headset will now control your VR Audio Volume Level and Mic Monitor Level.

Mobile App Tutorial

The Stealth 700 for Xbox One has a variety of features that can be controlled through the Android and iOS Audio Hub Apps available  here.

After picking up the apps from your phone’s app store, you’ll want to Bluetooth pair your headset to your phone.  This Bluetooth connection is separate from your wireless connection to your Xbox One. With a Bluetooth connection, you can take phone calls or listening to music while you’re gaming.

Bluetooth pairing instructions can be found here .

Once you’re paired to your headset open the Turtle Beach Audio Hub App.

(As your headset is being detected, you may see a notification that your headset has a firmware update available.  If this is the case, go to the  Turtle Beach Audio   Hub, so that you can update your headset with the Windows or macOS Audio Hubs.)

The first screen you see will be focused on different aspects of controls that can be customized.

Mic Monitor – Control the level your own voice plays in the headset. This will keep you from yelling into your microphone quite as much. This does not affect how other people hear you.

Superhuman Hearing – This feature allows you to pinpoint quiet audio cues, like enemy footsteps and weapon reloads.

Chat Boost – Turn this On to have Chat Audio automatically increase in volume when loud game sounds occur. A Turtle Beach feature that’s hard to live without!

Active Noise Cancellation – Block out the extra noise with Active Noise Cancellation.  When this feature is activated Mic Monitor is muted.

Audio Preset –  Select an EQ Preset to enhance your listening experience. (For more information about EQ Presets, click  here.)

Device Settings

Voice Prompt – Control the level the indication prompts play in your headset. Same as above, the minimum value will mute your prompts, so be careful.

Tones – Control the level the indication tones play in your headset. Remember if you set this to zero you will not hear any tones!  You may be directed to this particular line by a customer service rep if you contact us about it. (Hello!)

Do Not Disturb (Android Only) –  If your phone supports this feature this will turn on/off it’s Do Not Disturb function.  This will prevent your phone from ringing/vibrating when receiving calls/texts when you’re trying to take a game seriously.

Mic Noise Gate – This makes it easier to ensure your voice is coming through the mic, instead of background noise.

Troubleshooting the Wireless Connection

If you believe you may have encountered interference-related issues when using the Stealth 700 wireless headset for Xbox One, such as  audio drop-outs , or  other intermittent audio issues , please first check the following.

1.  First, confirm that the headset is successfully paired to the Xbox One console by completing the pairing process, as instructed here. In addition, make sure the headset firmware is updated (full instructions  here), and that the headset is charged (for more information, click  here).

2.  Make sure the Xbox One Firmware is up-to-date. (Full instructions  here.)

3.  Try the following steps:

  1. Power Off the Xbox One console.
  2. Disconnect the Power Cable from your Xbox One, and wait 20 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the Power Cable to your Xbox One.
  4. Power On the Xbox One using the Power Button on the front of the Console.
  5. Re-pair  the headset to the console, using the Connect Button on your Headset and the Enroll Button on your Xbox One Console.
  6. Once your Headset and Console are paired, connect the controller via USB to the console and turn the controller On.Use a standard USB Micro Cable; if you do not have one, you can use the USB Charge Cable included with the headset.

While your controller is connected through USB, do you still experience the drop-out issues you encountered before?

If the issue is fixed, try disconnecting the USB Cable and continuing to use your Xbox One. Is everything working without issue?

4. Move the headset so that it is in direct line-of-sight of the console. Does the issue persist? Then, move the headset closer to the console. Does the issue persist?

5.  If there are any other USB devices connected to the console — including external hard drives, console cooling fans, controller charging stations, VR set ups, USB webcams, or anything similar — please power the console and those devices off. Then, unplug each of those devices. Once each of those USB devices has been removed, power the console on, and test the headset out again.

Does this issue continue? If not, the device that was unplugged may be contributing to the issue.

If this issue persists, please move to step 6.

6.  Make sure there is no WiFi router or other high-powered wireless device within 5 ft (1.5m) of either the headset or console itself while in use. Depending on the strength of your particular router, you may want to increase the distance beyond 5 ft, to be absolutely sure. In addition, please make sure that any other wireless headsets (Turtle Beach or otherwise) are powered off and disconnected from any power source when using the Stealth 600 headset.

7.  Additionally, even if there is no WiFi router located in the immediate vicinity of either the headset or Xbox One console, a good test is to temporarily disable (power off) the router and then test the headset on your console by playing a single-player or offline game. If the same issue does not persist, it is safe to assume the router is indeed causing wireless interference between the console and headset.

ADVANCED

Turtle Beach is not responsible for third-party equipment. Please do not attempt the following unless you are familiar with changing router settings and/or networking.

The Stealth 700 for Xbox One includes a dual-band antenna, which can use either 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, similar to most Wi-Fi routers. If you have completed the steps above, and can confirm your Wi-Fi router is indeed causing interference for the headset, you may be able to resolve this by restricting your Wi-Fi router to operate on one frequency (2.4GHz or 5GHz) only. This way the headset can operate on the unused frequency, while the router uses the other, hopefully preventing any further interference between the two. This can be done within your router/networking settings; however, the process to complete this will vary between model and manufacturer for each router.

If the same, seemingly interference-related issues continue to occur, please contact our support team:  Contact Support
