Turtle Beach Control Studio Features
The Turtle Beach Control Studio is an application that allows you to fully customize and control your audio experience with the Atlas Edge adapter.
Please note that the Control Studio is compatible for use with Window 8.1 and 10 only.
The Control Studio is available for download here.
This article details all of the features of the Control Studio.
SIDEBAR, BOTTOM BAR, AND OPTIONS MENU
When the Edge is plugged in to the computer, you’ll see the following screen. There are three main tabs: Dashboard , Audio Settings, and Macros.
The sidebar and “ Global Presets” dropdown will always be visible, no matter which tab is selected.
When used with the Atlas Edge, you’ll see an image of the Edge.
The bottom bar includes some information about the headset, as well as social media links and some options.
First, you’ll see the current version of the Control Studio you’re running, as well as the firmware version of the Atlas Edge (TX). Then, you’ll see some social media links. The “Help” button will take you to our support site (which you’re reading right now).
Master Mute will mute all incoming game audio and outgoing mic audio. When Master Mute is enabled, Control Studio will go dark, and prohibit any change or adjustment of settings or other functions.
The gear icon on the bottom-right of the Control Studio window will open up the Options menu.
If there is an available firmware update, it will be listed in the Notifications section. You will have the option to update firmware immediately, or at a later time. You can also factory reset the headset.
In order to update the firmware or factory reset the headset, you’ll need to click on the option itself that you want, and then click on the “OK” button. The update or reset process will not be initiated until that “OK” button is clicked. Please note that this factory reset is for the audio settings only, and is not related to the firmware on the Edge.
Toggle Tool Tips to “On” to see information about each setting when you hover over the setting in question with the mouse.
You can also Import and Export a Game or Global Preset in this menu.
For 3D Audio Personalization, input your own measurements, as explained here. This information will be used to provide a better 3D audio experience.
DASHBOARD
Game & Global Presets
The first section of the Dashboard tab will be the Game Presets section. There will be a Game Preset dropdown, as well as a Global Preset dropdown.
Game Presets save the audio settings but not any macros you have created. Global Presets save the audio settings, as well as any macros you have created. At one time, four Game and four Global presets can be saved.
When changing any settings, the Game Preset and Global Preset dropdown text will change to the color orange. To keep the settings you chose, click on the preset dropdown, and then click “Save Preset As” to name your new preset.
The default options for the Game Preset are Signature Sound , Bass Boost , Treble Boost , and Bass and Treble Boost. As you create and save presets, those presets will show up in that list, as well.
The Global Preset has one option in the beginning ( Default ). As you save Global Presets, these will show up as options in that Global Preset list.
Under the Game Preset dropdown, there are three settings that can be toggled on and then adjusted, and one slider.
Game Treble Boost – This setting adjusts the volume of the treble audio on the game path. To adjust this setting, switch the toggle to “On”, and then raise or lower the slider to your preferred setting.
Game Bass Boost – This settings adjusts the volume of the bass audio on the game path. To adjust this setting, switch the toggle to “On”, and then raise or lower the slider to your preferred setting.
Game Dialog Level – This setting adjusts the volume of the vocals and the dialog of the game. To adjust this setting, switch the toggle to “On”, and then raise or lower the slider to your preferred setting.
Game/Chat Mix – This adjusts the balance of how much of the incoming audio is game audio, and how much is chat audio. To hear only Game audio, set this slider all the way to the left, under the word Game; to hear only Chat audio, set this slider all the way to the right, under the word Chat. To hear an equal mix of both Game and Chat audio, keep the slider under the word “Mix”.
Microphone Volume
Below the Game Preset settings is the Microphone Volume section. There are three settings that can be toggled on and then adjusted in this section.
Microphone Volume – This will control the volume of the outgoing mic audio. To adjust this setting, switch the toggle to “On”, and then raise or lower the slider to your preferred setting.
Noise Gate Threshold – The Noise Gate is the point the outgoing mic audio needs to reach in order for the mic to transmit that audio. If the audio is too quiet or soft, and doesn’t meet the Noise Gate requirements, it won’t be transmitted. To adjust this setting, switch the toggle to “On”, and then raise or lower the slider as needed.
Variable Mic Monitor – This allows you to hear yourself through the headset when you speak into the mic, which allows you to avoid inadvertently shouting at other people. This setting allows you to adjust how loud you hear yourself through the headset when you speak into the mic. To adjust this setting, switch the toggle to “On”, and then raise or lower the slider to your preferred setting.
Right Sidebar
Master Volume – Controls the volume of all of the incoming audio — both game and chat. Make sure this is at a level that is comfortable to you.
3D Audio – This is used to take multi-channel audio and convert it for headphone use. This feature will optimize the audio to create 3D audio to surround you with the audio of your content.
Game Spatializer – This will take stereo sound and adjust it to mimic multi-channel audio. This will optimize audio meant to be played through speakers to provide the optimal stereo experience.
Superhuman Hearing – Allows you to hear and focus on some subtle audio cues, like enemy footsteps or gunshots. Toggle the Superhuman Hearing feature “On”, and then you can select one of the options: Legacy , Footsteps Boost , and Gunshots Boost. The volume for the Superhuman Hearing can be adjusted in the Audio Settings screen. Legacy is the standard Turtle Beach Superhuman Hearing. Footsteps Boost and Gunshots Boost are newly developed options to help bring enemy footsteps and other audio cues into further focus.
Chat Boost – In moments of loud game audio, your chat will optimize so you can still hear other players. The options for chat boost are Bold Chat, Dynamic Chat, and Active Chat. Try all of the options to see which option you prefer.
AUDIO SETTINGS
At the top of the screen, you will see the Game and Global Presets dropdown menus again.
You will also see dropdown menus for Chat Presets, as well as Mic Presets.
On the right-hand side, you’ll see the Superhuman Hearing Volume. If Superhuman Hearing is engaged, you will be able to adjust the volume of the Superhuman Hearing feature:
If Superhuman Hearing is disengaged, you’ll see a reminder to engage Superhuman Hearing before you can adjust the volume:
EQ Adjustments
Below the Preset dropdowns and Superhuman Hearing Volume adjustment, you’ll see the 10-band EQ customization.
Here, you can adjust and create various presets for Game, Chat, and Mic.
You’ll see 10 sliders, each for a different frequency range. Some will have labels, like “Rumble”, “Explosions”, “Car Engine”, “Vocals”, or “Wind And Leaves”. Those noises/sounds mentioned are most likely to happen in those particular ranges, but are not limited to those ranges.
The sliders more to the left are for the bass, and the ones more towards the right are for the treble. The ones in the middle would be for frequencies between the bass and treble.
To adjust your Game Presets, select “Game EQ” on the left. The Game Presets dropdown menu at the top should light up.
Adjust the different frequencies as desired, and then click on “Signature Sound” in the Game Preset dropdown. To save your new preset as a global preset (audio settings and macros), click on “Default” in the Global Preset dropdown. Name and save your new preset.
Chat Presets
To adjust your Chat Presets, select “Chat EQ” on the left. The Chat Presets dropdown menu at the top should light up.
Adjust the different frequencies as desired, and then click on “Signature Sound” in the Chat Preset dropdown. To save your new preset as a global preset (audio settings and macros), click on “Default” in the Global Preset dropdown. Name and save your new preset.
Mic Presets
To adjust your Mic Presets, select “Microphone EQ” on the left. The Mic Presets dropdown menu at the top should light up.
Adjust the different frequencies as desired, and then click on “Signature Sound” in the Mic Preset dropdown. To save your new preset as a global preset (audio settings and macros), click on “Default” in the Global Preset dropdown. Name and save your new preset.
To test what the Mic preset would sound like, click the “Record” button under the Microphone EQ button. This will start a 10-second recording, and then play back that 10-second recording.
Please Note: The Mic Monitoring audio does not use this Mic Preset. You will be able to hear yourself through the headset when you speak into the mic, but that audio you hear would not be affected by the Mic Preset you have set. To hear yourself how other players would, click “Record” and then listen to the playback of that recording.
MACROS
The last tab in the Control Studio is the Macros Tab.
The Global Presets dropdown will appear on this screen, as well.
Here, you can customize your controls even further by saving a particular key or key arrangement to a particular control. Want to turn Superhuman Hearing on and off with one key, or mute yourself without your hands leaving the keyboard? Create a macro by clicking “Open” next to the feature you want, and then pressing your desired key or key arrangement within 10 seconds. It’ll save your desired key/key arrangement as the trigger for that particular function.
You can also turn Macros On and Off with the toggle at the bottom of this screen.
