EARBUD TIPS
The Scout Air comes with three pairs of earbud tips, in three sizes: Small , Medium , and Large.
Out of the box, the earbuds will have the Medium-size pair installed. Please be sure to try each pair to determine the size earbud tips that best suit you. For best results, choose the size earbud tips that provide the most noise isolation.
To remove the earbud tips, gently grasp the earbud tips and firmly pull the tip from the earbud.
Once you’ve determined which earbud tip that fits you best, align that earbud tip with the earbud itself, and stretch the earbud tip around the grill. Make sure the earbud tip is secure.
Turtle Beach Audio Hub
PLEASE NOTE

version of the Audio Hub to adjust and customize the controls and features for
the earbuds, and also view the battery level of your individual earbuds.
HOME PAGE
On the first page of the app, you will see a list of controls you can adjust. These controls include the EQ Presets. This is also where you can toggle the Game Mode, or re-assign the Touch-Enabled Surfaces.
First, you’ll see the battery status of the individual earbuds.
Below that will be options for the Case Battery LED, Equalizer, Functions, and Game Mode.
INFORMATION PAGE
The second page of the Audio Hub app is the information page. This will detail the firmware version of the earbuds, as well as links to important resources, including our Tech Support team, as well as the official Turtle Beach social media channels.
CASE BATTERY LED
Tapping on Case Battery LED will bring up the Case Battery LED screen, shown below. You will see a chart detailing the LED behaviors of the charging case, and the battery level each behavior represents.
**CHARGING CASE LED*** | BATTERY LEVEL |
---|---|
3 Solid White LEDs | Full Battery |
2 Solid White LEDs | 50% Battery |
1 Solid White LED | Low Battery |
*When charging case is open, LEDs turn off after 5 seconds. When case is closed, LEDs turn off after 5 seconds.
EQUALIZER
Tapping on Equalizer will open the Equalizer screen, shown below. This will allow you to choose between the four available presets: Signature Sound, Bass Boost, Bass and Treble Boost, and Vocal Boost.
Choose Signature Sound when you want to listen to your audio the way the creators intended. If you want to turn up the bass, choose Bass Boost. If you want to turn everything up, choose Bass + Treble Boost. And if you want to focus on the vocals/dialogue of your music or games, choose Vocal Boost.

*LEDs turn off after successful pairing.
Below that chart, you’ll see an option for Custom Functions. Select the earbud you’d like to customize the function for, and then follow the instructions to do so.
GAME MODE
Toggle the Game Mode on and off with the toggle on the home screen. The Game Mode is a low-latency mode that lessens the delay between your audio and what you see on screen.
This can also be engaged or disengaged via the touch surfaces on the earbuds themselves: Out of the box, three short taps followed by one long tap on the touch-enabled surface on the outside of the earbud engages this mode; three short taps followed by one long tap on that same touch- enabled surface will also disengage this mode.
REMAPPING TOUCH SURFACES
To re-map the touch surfaces for the earbuds, please do the following:
First, make sure the earbuds are paired to a Bluetooth-enabled device, like a smartphone.
You’ll need the mobile version of the Turtle Beach Audio Hub app – so if you haven’t yet downloaded that, you can do so here. Please note that the desktop version of the Audio Hub is not compatible for use with the Scout Air.
Once the earbuds are paired to your Bluetooth device, and you’ve downloaded the Audio Hub, open the Audio Hub app.
You’ll see a button that says “Get Connected”. Tap that button; the Audio Hub will search for and recognize your headset. If there’s a firmware update, you’ll see a message prompting you to perform that update. (If you have not yet updated the firmware, please do so, as some features are provided by said firmware update.)
Once the Audio Hub recognizes the headset (and any available firmware updates are performed), you’ll need to navigate to the home page of the Audio Hub. There will be an option labeled “Functions”.
Tap that button, and you will see an image of the earbuds, followed by a list of the default functions for those touch-enabled services.
Below that list you will see an option labelled “Custom Functions”; this will have two different options. Select the earbud you’d like to customize the function for, and then follow the instructions to do so.
Select the earbud you would like to re-map the touch-enabled surface for, and then follow the on-screen instructions. Once you have re-assigned those touch- enabled surfaces, you will then be able to use those new assignments as you would the original/default ones.
Pairing
PLEASE NOTE: The earbuds come with a protective plastic film on the bottom of the earbuds themselves. This plastic film MUST be removed before first use. If this plastic film is not removed, the earbuds may not pair or charge properly.
The earbuds are designed to be used with Bluetooth-enabled devices, including smartphones, mobile tablets (and similar devices), and Bluetooth-enabled Mac or PC devices.
To use the earbuds with one of those devices, the earbuds need to be paired to the device in question. The earbuds can only be paired to one device at a time. To switch between devices, you will need to (re)-pair the earbuds to the device you want to use. For example: If you usually use the earbuds with a smartphone, but need to use them with a Bluetooth-enabled PC, you’ll need to pair the earbuds to the PC. When you’re done using the earbuds with the PC and want to use them with the smartphone again, you’ll need to re-pair the earbuds to that smartphone.
To pair the earbuds with a Bluetooth-enabled device:
- If you have not yet done so, remove the protective plastic film from the bottom of both earbuds. This plastic film MUST be removed before first use. If this plastic film is not removed, the earbuds may not pair or charge properly.
- Place BOTH earbuds in the charging case to power on. To pair both earbuds to the device, both earbuds will need to be placed into the charging case. If only one earbud is in the case, both earbuds will not pair properly to your device, and the pairing process will need to be performed again.
- Leave the earbuds in the case. Make sure the lid of the case is OPEN ; this will activate the pairing mode. Keep the case itself near the device you are pairing the earbuds to.
- Enable Bluetooth on your device; when the earbuds appear in the list of available devices, select the earbuds.
- PLEASE NOTE : You may see two different versions of the product listed. If you do, pick the option that is listed as “hands-free” for both input and output.
- The LED on each earbud will turn solid, and the device screen will read that the earbuds are connected.
After use, place the earbuds back in the case, and close the lid. The earbuds will power off.
Charging
PLEASE NOTE: The earbuds come with a protective plastic film on the bottom of the earbuds themselves. This plastic film MUST be removed before first use. If this plastic film is not removed, the earbuds may not pair or charge properly.
The Scout Air comes with a case that you can use to both store and charge the earbuds. Make sure to keep the case itself fully charged. Please be sure to charge the case and earbuds regularly, and fully charge both the earbuds and the case before storing.
The charging case will charge from 0% to full in around 2 hours. If the case is charged, you can get 5 extra hours of battery life by charging the earbuds in the case for 15 minutes.
To charge the case : Plug the charging case in to a USB port (on a computer, console, or even a USB Wall Adapter) via the included USB-C Charge Cable.
To charge the earbuds : Place the earbuds into their respective spot in the (charged) case, and then close the lid of the charging case.
- The Scout Air earbuds have a rechargeable battery life of 20 total hours – after 20 hours of use, the earbuds will need to be recharged.
- The Scout Air charging case has a rechargeable battery life of 15 hours – after 15 hours of use, the charging case will need to be recharged.
- Please Note: The included USB-C Charge Cable is for power only. This cable cannot transmit any kind of data at all.
Please note that the case itself must be charged for the earbuds to be charged. If the charging case’s battery is too low, the earbuds will not charge – even if the earbuds are in place in the closed case. For your convenience and ease of use, please be sure to keep the case fully charged between uses.
When the battery level for the charging case is low, it will need to be plugged in to a USB port to charge. When the case is charged, it does not need to be plugged in via its included USB cable for the earbuds to charge.
To check the battery level for the charging case, open the lid and check the Battery Level Indication LEDs on the front of the case itself.
**CHARGING CASE LED*** | BATTERY LEVEL |
---|---|
3 Solid White LEDs | Full Battery |
2 Solid White LEDs | 50% Battery |
1 Solid White LED | Low Battery |
***** When charging case is open, LEDs turn off after 5 seconds. When case is closed for 5 seconds, LEDs turn off.
The battery level for the earbuds themselves can be checked within the Turtle Beach Audio Hub, as detailed here.

Mobile Setup
These earbuds were designed to be used with Bluetooth-enabled devices, including smartphones and other mobile devices like mobile tablets.
To set your earbuds up for use with a mobile device like a smartphone or a tablet, please do the following:
- If you have not yet already done so, update the firmware for your earbuds, via the Turtle Beach Audio Hub, as indicated here. In addition, remove the protective plastic film from the bottom of both earbuds. This plastic film must be removed for the earbuds to properly pair.
- Make sure your Scout Air earbuds are not paired to another device.
- Place BOTH of your Scout Air earbuds in the case with the lid open to put them into pairing mode, and keep them close to your mobile device/smartphone. If only one earbud is in the case, both earbuds will not pair properly to the device/smartphone in question, and the pairing process will need to be performed again.
- Leave the earbuds in the case. Make sure the lid of the case is OPEN ; this will activate the pairing mode.
- Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device/smartphone; when Scout Air appears in the list of available devices, select that option.
- The LEDs on the earbuds will turn solid when they are paired.
After use, place the earbuds back in the case, and close the lid. The earbuds will power off.
No Mic Audio
If you are having issues being heard when using your Scout Air earbuds, please be sure to check the following.
1. Protective Plastic Film Has Been Removed
The Scout Air comes with a protective plastic film on the bottom of both earbuds. Before using the earbuds for the first time, you will need to remove that plastic film. If that plastic film is not removed, the earbuds may not charge or pair properly, and you may have issues being heard.
If that protective film has been removed, but you are still having issues, please proceed to Step 2.
2. Earbuds Work With Another Device /Mic Is Not Muted
Pair the earbuds to a different device, and then test the earbuds out. Ideally you would be pairing the headset with a smartphone, and then making a test call.
During this test, make sure that the earbuds are paired to the specific device you’re testing them with, and that the mic is not muted — if the earbuds’ mics are muted, you will not be heard when you speak into the mics themselves.
The mic can be muted or unmuted via the controls on the device you are using the earbuds with.
If you make a test call, can you be heard clearly during the call itself?
3. Earbuds Are Paired To The Correct Device
The earbuds can be used for a variety of devices, and they must be re-paired every time they are used with a different device. Be sure to check in the Bluetooth settings of the device you are looking to use the earbuds with, to ensure that the earbuds are in fact paired to that device.
You may need to disconnect the earbuds from a different device if the earbuds were being used with another device before the current one.
- Please Note: In some cases, you may see two options for the earbuds. If this happens, please select the “hands-free” option.
If the earbuds are paired to the correct device, but you still cannot be heard, please proceed to Step 3.
4. Device And Game Settings Are Configured Correctly
Some games or programs do have their own audio settings, including mic mute controls. Double-check the settings for both the device you’re using as well as the game/program you’re using. In addition, make sure there is no “Push-To- Talk” control engaged; if there is, be sure to disengage it. If “Push-To-Talk” is engaged, you will not be heard unless a specific button is pressed before you begin to/as you speak.
5. Record A Test Message
Pair the earbuds to a Bluetooth device, like a smartphone.
Then, use an app like Voice Memos (or similar) to make a test recording. Make sure the phone itself is kept covered/in a pocket during that test recording.
When you’re done recording, play back that recording you made. Can you hear what you had recorded clearly and consistently?
PC/Mac Setup (For Bluetooth-Enabled Devices)
PLEASE NOTE: The earbuds come with a protective plastic film on the bottom of the earbuds themselves. This plastic film MUST be removed before first use. If this plastic film is not removed, the earbuds may not pair or charge properly.
These earbuds were designed to be used with Bluetooth-enabled devices, including PC/Mac computers with Bluetooth capabilities.
If your PC/Mac has Bluetooth capabilities, you’ll be able to use the Scout Air earbuds with your computer. If you’re not sure whether your PC/Mac computer has Bluetooth capabilities, you can check the settings for the computer itself, or contact the manufacturer of the computer to verify.
To set up your earbuds for use with a PC/Mac computer, please do the following:
- If you have not yet already done so, update the firmware for your earbuds, via the Turtle Beach Audio Hub, as indicated here. In addition, remove the protective plastic film from the bottom of both earbuds. This plastic film must be removed for the earbuds to properly pair.
- Make sure your Scout Air earbuds are not paired to another device.
- Place BOTH of your Scout Air earbuds in the case with the lid open to put them into pairing mode, and keep them close to your computer. If only one earbud is in the case, both earbuds will not pair properly to the computer, and the pairing process will need to be performed again.
- Leave the earbuds in the case. Make sure the lid of the case is OPEN ; this will activate the pairing mode.
- Enable Bluetooth on your computer; when Scout Air appears in the list of available devices, select that option.
- PLEASE NOTE: You may see two different versions of the product listed. If you do, pick the option that is listed as “hands-free” for both input and output.
- The LEDs on the earbuds will turn solid when they are paired.
Some games or programs have their own audio settings, independent of the computer’s settings. Be sure to double-check that the default device within the game/program you’re using is the earbuds.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Scout Air earbuds.
COMPATIBILITY
1. What devices are the earbuds compatible with?
Bluetooth devices, including:
- iOS mobile devices
- Android mobile devices
- PC devices
- Mac devices
The earbuds can also be used with the Nintendo Switch for game audio only.
If you’re not sure if your device is Bluetooth-enabled, either check the settings for any mention of Bluetooth, or contact the manufacturer of your device.
2. Can I use these earbuds with my Xbox console? Can I use these earbuds with my PlayStation console?
- These earbuds cannot connect or pair to either an Xbox or PlayStation console.
3. Can I use these earbuds with my Nintendo Switch while the Switch is docked, or does the Switch need to be in the handheld mode?
- The headset can be paired and used with the Nintendo Switch either in the handheld mode or while the Switch is docked.
BEFORE FIRST USE
1. Do I need to do anything before I use these earbuds for the first time?
Yes – for the best results, please do the following before using your earbuds for the first time.
- First: Remove the plastic protective film on the bottom of the earbuds. Both earbuds will have their own protective film, so be sure to remove both.
- Please ensure you remove this film away from the Charging Case – if the film falls into the Charging Case, it may block access to the charging pins, which could cause an issue with pairing/charging.
- Second: Update the earbuds’ firmware, via the Turtle Beach Audio Hub. This is especially important if you are looking to use your earbuds with a Nintendo Switch – the firmware update provides compatibility for Nintendo Switch, so if the earbuds are not updated, they will not successfully pair to the Nintendo Switch console.
- The Audio Hub can be downloaded on both iOS or Android devices. The desktop version of the Audio Hub cannot be used to update the firmware for the Scout Air earbuds. For more information and full instructions on how to update the firmware, please click here.
- Third: Make sure that the earbud tips on the earbuds are the correct size. These earbud tips come in three sizes: Small , Medium , and Large.
- Out of the box, the earbuds will have the Medium-size pair installed. Please be sure to try each pair to determine the size earbud tips that best suit you. For best results, choose the size earbud tips that provide the most noise isolation.
CHARGING
1. What is the battery life of the earbuds? Of the case?
- The earbuds have a rechargeable battery life of 20 hours. After 20 hours of use, the earbuds will need to be recharged.
- The charging case has a rechargeable battery life of 15 hours. After 15 hours of use, the charging case will need to be recharged.
2. Why do both the charging case and the earbuds need to be charged? Don’t I just need to charge the earbuds?
- Some wireless headsets are charged via USB cable. The Scout Air earbuds are instead charged via their own charging case. For that case to be able to provide a charge to the earbuds, there must first be a charge in the case itself.
- For the best experience, we recommend charging the case regularly – then all you need to do is place the earbuds in the case after use, and the earbuds will stay charged, as well.
FEATURES AND CONTROLS
1. These earbuds are sweatproof? What does that mean?
- These earbuds are rated IPX4 Water & Sweat Resistant. This means the earbuds are sweatproof — but they are NOT waterproof.
- The earbuds can be used when exercising but are not meant to be used in water for an extended period of time – for example, if you are swimming or engaging in similar water/aquatic activities.
2. Where are the controls? Can I mute myself?
- Both earbuds have a touch-enabled surface. Out of the box, the features controlled by these touch-enabled surfaces are the same for both earbuds, but these can be adjusted and re-assigned through the mobile Audio Hub app, to customize those controls to your preference. Those features include (but are not limited to) control of music playback and Bluetooth calls.
- The earbuds can be muted via the controls on the device/phone the earbuds are being used with.
3. Do I need a transmitter?
-
The earbuds use Bluetooth to pair to and connect with Bluetooth-enabled devices. All you need is your earbuds, charging case, and a Bluetooth-enabled device!

TROUBLESHOOTING
1. The earbud tips do not fit well.
- There are three pairs of earbud tips included, each a different size – Small , Medium , and Large. The Medium pair is installed on the earbuds out of the box; if this size does not suit you, try one of the other sizes to find the one that suits you best.
- When trying the earbud tips for size, choose the size that provides the most noise isolation.
For instructions on how to remove and replace the earbud tips, please click here.
2. The earbuds are not charging/the LED on the earbuds does not light up at all.
- Make sure that there is nothing blocking the earbuds from fully connecting with the charging pins in the case. This can include but not be limited to the protective plastic the earbuds come with; when you remove that plastic, please make sure to do it away from the charging case, so that the plastic does not fall into the case itself.
- Use a different USB-C power cable/USB port to charge the charging case to full (this should take around two hours).
- Then, try to place the earbuds back into their corresponding place in the case, and see if the earbuds charge.
If you have tried these steps, but the LED on the earbuds does not light up, or the earbuds still do not charge, please contact the support team.
3. Only one earbud is pairing.
- First, make sure there is nothing blocking the earbuds from connecting with the charging pins in the case itself, including the protective plastic film the earbuds come with. Then:
- Place both earbuds back in the charging case and close the lid.
- Turn off Bluetooth on your device.
- Open the case again and leave the lid open. This will activate the pairing mode.
- Attempt to re-pair the earbuds and your device, as indicated here.
If you are still having issues even after following these steps, please contact the support team.
4. There are two different devices on my Bluetooth-enabled device! Which one do I pick?
- If you see two different versions of the product listed, pick the option that is listed as “hands-free” for both input and output.
5. I can’t pair my earbuds to my Nintendo Switch.
- First, make sure that the firmware for the earbuds has been fully updated. The earbuds will not properly pair to a Nintendo Switch in the docked mode until the firmware for the earbuds is updated.
- Second, make sure your Nintendo Switch is fully docked. The earbuds cannot be used with the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode – they are compatible with the Switch in docked mode only.
- Try the pairing process outlined here, exactly as indicated.
If the headset is up-to-date, the Switch is docked, and the earbuds still don’t pair to the Switch, please contact the support team.
5. I’ve lost my earbud tips, charging case, or other accessories. Where can I get a replacement?
- Replacement parts and accessories will be made available here.
6. How can I change or adjust the earbud tips?
-
Full instructions for changing the earbud tips are available here.
