Operating instructions
Before operation
warning:
for your own safety never connect the plug to the power source outlet until
all assembly steps are completed and you have read and understood the safety
and operational instructions.
Column to base (fig. 3)
Position base (1) on the floor or bench. Place column assembly (2) on base and
align holes in column support with holes in the base. To attach and fasten the
pillar unit, screw the three screws (a) into the base plate and tighten them
with a wrench. For your own safety, it is highly recommended to install the
machine on a bench by serving a mounting hole on the base, bolts are not
supplied. Table and pillar (fig. 4)
Slide the drilling table (3) onto the pillar (2). Position the table directly
above the base plate. Install the table bolting (b) in the table unit from the
left side and tighten it. The machine head and pillar (fig. 5)
Place the machine head (4) onto the pillar (2). Align the drilling the spindle
of the machine head with the table and the base plate and fasten the 2 Allen
screws located in the machine head (c).
Drill chuck protection with depth stop (fig. 6)
Fit the chuck protection with depth stop (8) onto the spindle pipe and tighten
the slotted screw (d). Caution! The depth stop must be fed through the hole
(13) on the housing. Screw on the two nuts (B1/2) and place the indicator (g)
onto the depth stop. The indicator (g) must point at the scale.
Feed handles to the shaft hub (fig. 7)
Screw the feed handles (A) tightly into the threaded holes in the hub (B).
Installing the chuck (Fig. 8)
Clean the conical hole in the chuck (5) and the spindle pipe(see fig.2) with a
clean piece of fabric. Make sure there are no foreign particles sticking to
the surfaces. The slightest piece of dirt on any of these surfaces will
prevent the chuck from seating properly. This will cause the drill bit to
wobble”. If the tapered hole in the chuck is extremely dirty, use a cleaning
solvent on the clean cloth. Push the chuck up on the spindle nose as far as it
will go. Turn chuck sleeve anticlockwise (when viewed from above) and open
jaws in chuck completely. Place a piece of wood on the machine table and lower
the spindle onto the piece of wood. Press firmly to ensure that the chuck sits
exactly.
WARNING:
All the necessary adjustments for the good working of your drill press have
been done at the factory. Please do not modify them. However, because of the
normal wear and tear of your tool, some readjustments might be necessary.
WARNING:
Always unplug our tool from the power source before any adjustment
Quill return spring (Fig. 9)
It may be necessary to adjust your quill return spring if the tension is such
that the quill returns either too rapidly or too slowly
- Lower table for additional clearance.
- Work from the left side of the drill press.
- Move the stop nuts (B) down to their lowest position and lock in place with a wrench to prevent the quill from dropping while tensioning the spring.
- Place a screwdriver in the lower front notch (C) of spring cap (D) and hold it in place
- Remove the screw (E) and the knurled nut (C) by using an Allen wrench.
- Carefully turn the screwdriver anticlockwise and engage the next notch in boss (G). Do not remove the screwdriver.
- Install the knurled nut (C) and the screw (E) again.
- If there is not enough tension on the spring, repeat steps moving only one notch each time and checking tension after repetition. Proper tension is achieved when the quill returns gently to full-up position when released from 20mm-3/4″ -depth.
- Check the quill while feeding to have smooth and unrestricted movement. If movement is too tight, loosen Allen screw (E) and knurled nut (F). Check if the spindle can move freely again. Retighten jam nut.
The angular play of the spindle (Fig. 10)
With the spindle in a low position, take it in your hand and try to make it
revolve about its axis. If there is too much play, proceed as follows:
- Loosen lock nut (L)
- Turn the screw (I) clockwise to eliminate the play but without obstructing the upward and down-ward motion of the spindle (a little bit of play is normal)
- Tighten the lock nut.
WARNING:
if you are not familiar with this kind of machine, take advice from an
experienced person.
In any case, you should have read and understood the safety and operational
instruction before attempting to operate this product.
Pivoting the table (Fig. 11)
To bring the table (3) to the inclined position release the table locking (h)
and adjust the desired table angle. Re-tighten the table locking.
Adjusting table height (Fig. 12)
- Loosen the table support lock handle
- Adjust the table (3) to the desired height.
- Re-tighten the table locking
Note:
it is better to lock the table to the column in a position so that the tip of
the drill bit is just slightly above the top of the workpiece.
Installing and removing drill bits
- Fold the drill chuck protection upwards.
- Insert drill bit into chuck far enough to obtain maximum gripping of chuck jaws, do not insert too far to avoid the jaws touching the flutes-spiral groves of the drill bit.
- Firmly hold the holding ring and turn the clamping ring clockwise to tighten the drill bit.
- Fold the drill chuck protection back down again.
- Make sure the drill bit is centered in the chuck before tightening the chuck and tightened the drill chuck sufficiently to avoid slipping during drilling.
- For removing the drill bit, firmly hold the holding ring and turn the clamping ring anticlockwise to loosen the drill bit.
Choosing speed and tensioning belt (Fig. 13 and 16)
Note! Pull the power plug!
- You can set different spindle speeds on your pillar drilling machine:
- with the switch “off”, open the pulley cover. Loosen the drive belt on the right side of the machine head by unfastening the wing screws (12) on both sides. Pull the right side of the motor in the direction of the spindle to loosen the v-belt. Tighten the wing screws again.
- Attach the v-belt to the corresponding belt pulleys.
- Loosen the wing screws and push the right side of the motor backward to clamp the v-belt again.
- Tighten the belt tension lock knob. The belt should deflect approximately 13 mm —1/2″ -by thumb pres-sure at mid-point of belt between pulleys.
- Close pulley cover.
If the belt slips while drilling adjusts the belt tension.
Please refer to fig. 16 To find the right belt position for your desired speed.
Tip: Safety switch
If you want to adjust the speed you have to open the pulley cover. The device
switches off immediately to avoid the risk of Injuries.
Removing the chuck
Open jaws of chuck as wide as they go by turning chuck’s sleeve anticlockwise
(when viewed from above). Carefully tap the chuck with a mallet in one hand
while holding chuck in another hand to prevent dropping it when released from
spindle nose.
Depth stop (Fig. 14)
The depth stop enables the drilling of holes in the workpiece until a defined
depth. You have two options for that.
Drilling to a specific depth
- Mark the drilling depth (H) on one side of the workpiece.
- WITH THE SWITCH „OFF”, bring the drill bit down until the tip or lips are even to the mark.
- Hold the feed handle at this position.
- Spin the lower nut (B2) down to contact the depth stop lug (13) on the head.
- Spin the upper nut (B1) down and tighten against the lower nut.
- The chuck and the drill bit will now be stopped after traveling downward the distance selected on the depth scale.
Depth scale method (Fig. 6)
Note: for this method, with the spindle in its upper position the tip of
the drill bit must be just slightly above the top of the workpiece. Switch off
the machine, lower the dril so far until the indicator (g) points at the
desired drilling depth of the depth scale (e).
- Turn the lower nut (B2) downwards until it reaches the lower stop (13). Lock the lower nut (B1) against the upper nut.
- The chuck and the drill bit will now be stopped after traveling downward the distance selected on the depth scale.
Positioning table and workpiece (Fig. 15)
Always place a piece of backup material (H) (‘wood, plywood…) on the table
underneath the workpiece (B). This will prevent splintering or making a heavy
burr on the underside of the workpieces as the drill bit breaks through. To
keep the backup material from spinning out of control it must contact the left
side of the column as illustrated.
Warning:
To prevent the workpiece or the backup material from being torn from your hand
while drilling, position them to the left side of the column. If the workpiece
or the backup material are not long enough to reach the column, clamp them to
the table. Failure to do this could result in personal injury.
Note:
for small pieces that cannot be clamped to the table, use a drill press vise
(An optional accessory sold in most tool shops). The vice must be clamped or
bolted to the table to avoid injury from spinning work and vise or tool
breakage.
Drilling a hole
Make a dent in the workpiece where you want the hole, using a center punch or
a sharp nail. Before turning the switch on, bring the drill down to the work
piece lining it up with the hole location. Turn the switch on and pull down on
the feed handles with only enough effort to allow the drill to cut. FEEDING
TOO SLOWLY might cause the drill bit to burn. FEEDING TOO RAPIDLY might stop
the motor, cause the belt or drill to slip. tear the workpiece loose, or break
the drill bit. When drilling metal, it may be necessary to lubricate the tip
of the drill with cutting fluid to prevent burning the drill bit.
Maintenance
WARNING:
For your own safety, turn the switch off and remove plug from the power source
outlet before any operation of maintenance on our drill press.
Keep your appliance clean
Be careful some household cleaning products and solvents such as benzene,
trichloroethane, chloride, ammonium, etc.. can damage plastic parts. TO avoid
motor damage, blow out or vacuum frequently this motor to keep drill press
dust from interfering With normal motor ventilation.

in any way, have it replaced immediately.
Lubrication
All of the ball bearings are packed with grease at the factory No further
lubrication is required. Periodically lubricate the splines -grooves -in the
spindle. To lubricate the splines, bring down the quill and inject the grease
into the spindle from the top of the pulley. Bring the quill up and down a few
times.
