SONOS Roam SL Speaker

Product Information

The Sonos Roam SL is an ultra portable speaker designed for both home and on- the-go use. It offers up to 10 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. The speaker is lightweight, durable, and waterproof, making it ideal for beach trips, pool parties, and more. You can control the Sonos Roam SL using the Sonos S2 app, available for Android and iOS devices.

Product Usage Instructions

To recharge the Sonos Roam SL:

1. Connect the included cable to a USB power source with a minimum output of 7.5W (10W recommended).
2. Alternatively, place the speaker on a compatible Qi wireless charger.
3. If you have the custom wireless charger (sold separately), place the Sonos Roam SL on it to recharge.

To control the Sonos Roam SL:

• Use the volume control buttons to adjust the volume. Press and hold to quickly change the volume. You can also use the Sonos app to adjust the volume.
• Press the playback control button once to play or pause audio.
• Double press the playback control button for the next track.
• Triple press the playback control button for the previous track. Note that skipping forward or going back is not available when listening to a radio station.

The status light on the Sonos Roam SL has the following indications:

• Solid white: The speaker is turned on and connected to WiFi or Bluetooth.
• Blinking blue: The speaker is in Bluetooth pairing mode.
• Solid blue: The speaker is connected to a device via Bluetooth.
• Flashing orange: The speaker is overheating. Move it to a cooler location away from direct sunlight.

The battery light on the Sonos Roam SL indicates the battery status:

• Blinking orange: Low battery.
• Solid orange: Charging. The light may stay on for several minutes depending on the battery level. Charging continues when the light turns off.

To save battery life, you can set the Sonos Roam SL to power off automatically instead of going to sleep. Go to the System settings in the Sonos app and select the Sonos Roam SL. The remaining battery life is always visible in the Sonos app.

The connector panel of the Sonos Roam SL includes a power/Bluetooth button and a USB-C port:

1. Power on/sleep/wake: Short press the power/Bluetooth button (less than 1 second) to turn on or put the speaker to sleep. When asleep, it will stay dormant for 10 minutes before powering off. Press again to wake it up.
2. Bluetooth : Press and hold the power/Bluetooth button until you hear the second tone and the status light blinks blue. Then, select “Roam” from your device’s Bluetooth pairing list. To pair with a different device, wait for Roam to connect to the current device and then press and hold again to restart the pairing process.
3. Power off : Long press the power/Bluetooth button (about 5 seconds) until you hear the third tone. The status light blinks blue and then turns off.

When placing the Sonos Roam SL, keep the following in mind:

• You can place the speaker next to a wall or on a shelf, but it’s recommended to leave at least 1 inch (2.5cm) of space around the back of the speaker for optimal performance.
• The speaker’s durable design includes silicone end caps to protect it from drops or bumps.

Controls and lights

• Volume control
  • Volume up (+)
  • Volume down (-)

Press and hold to quickly change the volume.

Note: You can also use the Sonos app to adjust volume.

Playback control

• Press once to play or pause audio.
• Double press for next track.
• Triple press for previous track.

Note: You can’t skip forward or go back when listening to a radio station.

Status light
Displays the product’s connection to WiFi or Bluetooth, indicates when the volume is muted, and signals errors:

• Solid white— on
• Blinking blue —Bluetooth pairing mode
• Solid blue —connected with device via Bluetooth
• Flashing orange —if the product gets too hot, the status light flashes orange and the product chirps 3 times. Move the product to a cooler location, away from direct sunlight. Learn more

Battery light
Indicates the battery status:

• Blinking orange indicates low battery.
• Solid orange when it starts charging. The light may stay on for several minutes depending on how low the battery is. The battery will continue to charge when the light turns off.
• Battery Saver: To save battery life, you can set Sonos Roam SL to power off automatically instead of going to sleep. Go to > System, and select Sonos Roam SL. It won’t appear in the Sonos app until it’s powered back on.

Note: Sonos Roam SL’s remaining battery life is always visible in the Sonos app.

Connector panel

1. Power/Bluetooth button
2. Power on/sleep/wake: Short press (less than 1 second) When you put Roam to sleep, you’ll hear a quick tone and the status light will turn off. Press again to wake. If you put Roam to sleep, it will stay asleep for 10 minutes before powering off.
3. Bluetooth: To pair with a device, press and hold until you hear the second tone and the status light blinks blue, then select Roam from your device’s Bluetooth pairing list. To pair with a different device, wait until Roam connects to the current device, then press and hold again to restart the pairing process.
4. Power off: Long press (about 5 seconds) Press and hold until you hear the third tone. The status light blinks blue, then turns off.
5. USB-C port
   Use the included cable to connect a compatible 7.5W minimum (10W recommended) USB-A power source.(Sonos 10W USB Power Adapter sold separately.)

Select a location
You can use your speaker just about anywhere. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

• You can place the speaker next to a wall or on a shelf—for best performance, leave at least 1″ (2.5cm) space around the back of the speaker.
• The speaker’s durable design includes silicone end caps to protect from drops or bumps.
• Avoid placing the speaker in direct sunlight.
• You can place Sonos Roam SL horizontally or vertically. When vertical, the speaker takes up barely any room. Position it horizontally for added stability on uneven surfaces.

Bluetooth pairing

1. Turn on Bluetooth in your device settings.
2. Press and hold the power button on the speaker for 2 seconds until you hear the second pairing tone, then release. The status light blinks blue when the speaker is ready to pair.
3. Choose Sonos Roam SL from the list of available devices in your Bluetooth settings. Your mobile device will automatically connect next time.

Charging

USB-C to USB-A
Use the included cable to connect a compatible 7.5W minimum (10W recommended) USB-A power source. (Sonos 10W USB Power Adapter sold separately.)

Note: Battery life is visible in the Sonos app.

Sonos Wireless Charger (sold separately)
Place the speaker on the smooth, magnetized side of the charger for easy recharging—no extra wires or cables needed.

Qi charger
Place the speaker on a compatible Qi-certified wireless charger.

Set up stereo pair

Pair two Sonos speakers in the same room for an even wider, stereo experience. One speaker serves as the left channel and one serves as the right channel.

Note: The Sonos speakers in a stereo pair must be the same type.

1. Place the speakers 8 to 10 feet apart. Your favorite listening position should be 8 to 12 feet from the paired speakers—less distance increases bass, more distance improves stereo imaging.
2. Go to > System.
3. Select one of the speakers you want to use in the stereo pair, then choose Set Up Stereo Pair to get started.

Product settings
You can customize Sonos products for your surroundings. Go to > System and select a product.

• Room Name
  If you move your speaker to a new room, you can change its name in Settings.

• Turn off WiFi (not available for Sonos Era 100, Era 300, or portable products)

  • You can turn off your speaker’s WiFi when it’s connected to your network with an Ethernet cable. This reduces power consumption and can improve connectivity for wired speakers.
  • For products like Amp and Port, turning off WiFi can reduce the internal temperature when they’re placed in a rack or stacked. Learn more
  • Note: WiFi is turned off for Era 100 and Era 300 when you connect a Sonos Combo Adapter using the Ethernet cable.

• EQ
  Sonos products ship with preset equalization settings. You can change the sound settings (bass, treble, or loudness) to suit your personal preferences. Learn more

• Trueplay
  Trueplay adapts the sound for your surroundings and content. Portable products can tune themselves automatically.

• Volume Limit
  You can set a maximum volume for each room. Learn more

• Status Light
  Displays the speaker’s connection to WiFi, indicates when the volume is muted, and signals errors. Learn more
  Note: If the light is distracting, you can turn it off in Settings.

• Touch Controls
  You can disable the touch control on your speaker. You may want to do this to prevent a child or curious pet from accidentally adjusting playback or volume. Learn more

• Battery Saver (portable products only)
  To save battery life, you can set your portable speaker to power off automatically instead of going to sleep. It won’t appear in the Sonos app until it’s powered back on.

• Line-In (Sonos products with line-in capability)
  When a projector, turntable, stereo, or other audio device is connected to a Sonos product, you can adjust these line-in settings:

  • Source name : Choose a name for the line-in device.
  • Source level: Adjust the line-in source level if you find the default volume setting is too quiet or distorted.
  • Audio Delay : Add a delay between the line-in source and Sonos to reduce the chance of audio issues occurring when you’re playing line-in audio on grouped speakers.
  • Autoplay: Choose a room if you want line-in audio to start playing automatically when Sonos detects a signal on the line-in port. (Autoplay is disabled by default.)

5. Clean only with a dry soft cloth. Household cleaners or solvents can damage the finish on your Sonos products. Sonos products with rubber rings on the bottom, such as Move, One, and One SL, may leave a faint ring on some surfaces treated with polyurethane. This ring can be easily removed by wiping with a damp cloth.
6. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
7. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus that produce heat
8. Protect the power cable from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
