Voice Chat Issues With Nintendo Switch
If you are experiencing the following symptoms when you use your headset with Fortnite on a Nintendo Switch, please try the steps below:
- Mic Not Working in Chat (you can’t be heard in chat)
- Chat Audio Not Working (you cannot hear other people in chat)
You may need to re-enable the in-game chat. In addition, you may need to disable the Push-to-Talk feature.
To do so:
1. Make sure you are logged in to your profile. Once you are logged in, press the + button on the switch to bring up the Social menu. Scroll down to and then select the gear icon on the bottom of the left sidebar.
2. The sidebar will change in appearance from your friends list to a list of several different options. Select the “ Settings ” option, as shown below.
3. You will see several tabs on the top of the screen. Scroll to the Speaker tab – this is the Audio Settings tab. Then, scroll down to section labelled “Voice Chat”.
There will be two toggle settings: Voice Chat and Voice Chat Method.
- Voice Chat is ON by default. To be able to hear and be heard in chat, this setting needs to be ON. If this setting is turned off, you will not be able to hear the chat audio, and you will not be able to be heard in chat.
- Voice Chat Method is set to PUSH-TO-TALK by default. To be able to be heard in chat whenever you speak, this setting needs to be OPEN MIC. If this setting is set to PUSH-TO-TALK, you will not be heard in chat unless you press a specific button when you speak into the mic.
Make sure that the Voice Chat is On and the Voice Chat Method is set to Open Mic , and then test the headset again. You should be able to hear and be heard in the chat.
No Mic Audio
If you are having issues being heard in chat when using your Recon 200 Gen 2 headset, please be sure to check the following.
1. The Headset Is Charged/Powered On
The Recon 200 Gen 2 headset has a rechargeable battery. If your battery dies, you will still be able to use the headset for passive game audio, but the microphone may not function without the power in all configurations. To ensure full functionality, please keep your headset charged.
We generally recommend charging the headset via the console itself, but you can also charge the headset via a USB Wall Adapter. For more information on charging the headset, please click here.
Once the headset has been fully charged, move the console switch on the headset itself to the proper console mode, as shown below:
Once the headset has been powered on and is plugged in, move to Step 2.
2. Mic Is Unmuted/Mic Monitor Is Working
The mic will need to be unmuted to be used. To unmute the mic, flip the mic all the way forwards, as shown below. You will hear an ascending tone when the mic is unmuted.
With the mic fully unmuted, use the lower volume dial on the headset itself to raise the volume of the Mic Monitor audio. Then, speak directly into the mic (you do not have to be in a chat to perform this test).
Can you hear yourself through the headset when you speak into the mic?
If you cannot hear yourself, please contact our support team.
If you can hear yourself, please move to Step 3.
3. The Headset Works With Another Device
With the mic unmuted, plug the headset itself into a smartphone or similar device. (Click here for alternate versions of this test if you do not have access to a smartphone with the proper jack.)
Then, make a test call. Be sure to keep the smartphone itself either covered or in a pocket during this test.
Can you be heard clearly during that test call?
If you cannot be heard clearly, please contact our support team with the results of this test.
If you can be heard clearly and consistently during that test call, please move on to Step 4 (or Step 5 if using the headset with a PlayStation console).
4. Record A Test Message (Xbox Only)
- With the headset plugged in to the controller, press the Xbox button while in the home screen.
- Go to Parties & Chats tab, and select New Chat
- Select someone from the list (you do not have to select anyone in particular, as you will not be sending this message), and then tap the Menu button to complete the selection.
- After you choose a person, two options will appear: Write a Message (pencil icon on left) and Record a Message (mic icon on right). Select the Record a Message/Mic icon on the right.
- Select Record , and then speak into the mic. When you are done recording, stop the recording.
- The new recording should appear under the Write a Message/Record a Message icons. Select Play , and listen to that recording you made. This will tell you how your voice will sound to other players. Can you hear your voice clearly?
If you can hear yourself when you play back that test recording, please move to Step 5.
If you cannot hear yourself when you play back that test recording, please contact our support team for further assistance.
5. Device And Game Settings Are Configured Correctly
If the headset works well with another device, the issue may not be with the headset itself.
First, check the audio settings for the device/platform you are using the headset with.
For PC :
- Right-click the Speaker icon on the Taskbar, and then select “Open Sound Settings”.
- Double-check that the Output and Input devices are both listed as the headset.
For Mac :
- Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences >> Sound.
- Double-check that the Input and Output devices are both listed as the headset.
For PlayStation , please check that the settings are configured as shown here.
For Xbox , please check that the settings are configured as shown here.
For Nintendo Switch , you will need to check the settings within the game itself.
Once you’re sure the device settings are configured correctly, double-check the game’s settings. Many games have audio settings that are independent of the console’s settings, so it’s important to double-check that those settings are configured correctly, as well.
If you are having issues specifically with Fortnite, please click here. Please note that this article does mention Xbox, but the Fortnite menus will be the same regardless of the console you are playing on.
If you are having issues specifically with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Call of Duty: Warzone, please click here for Xbox/PC, or click here for PlayStation.
If these issues persist even after double-checking that the settings for both the game and the console are configured correctly, please contact our support team for further assistance.
