Product Usage Instructions

Removal

  1. Remove the wheel from your vehicle and lay it horizontally with the bearing to be removed facing up.
  2. Place the main body puller over the bearing remover with its fingers between the rotor bolts.
  3. Attach the large brass washer and nut onto the bearing remover and tighten by hand.
  4. Lubricate the expander dowel and insert it through the wheel hub and bearing remover using a hex wrench.
  5. Secure the expander dowel with a nut and torque to 100 in. lb. using a torque wrench.
  6. Use open-end wrenches to secure the bearing remover and tighten the nut to remove the bearing from the wheel hub.

Installation

  1. Insert the backing plate onto the installation bolt and insert it through the wheel hub and bearing.
  2. Attach the matching washer and nut to the installation bolt.
  3. Secure the installation bolt with a socket wrench from underneath and slowly tighten the nut with a wrench to install the bearing straight.
  4. Once the bearing is fully installed, remove tools and replace the wheel.

  • DO NOT overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
  • ALWAYS ensure your vehicle is safely parked and completely immobilized before use. Allow time for any heated surfaces near your work area to cool.
  • ALWAYS carefully test repaired wheels and brakes in place and at low speeds in a safe location before resuming normal use of your vehicle.
  • Maintain this product. Check for misalignment, binding, wear, or other damage before use.
  • If any damage is detected, repair or replace the problematic components before further use.In a large shop, mark such tools DO NOT USE until they have been repaired. Only replace components with identical parts.

Operation

Removal

  1. Remove the wheel from your vehicle and carefully lay it in a secure horizontal position with the bearing to be removed facing up. (When removing bearings from rear wheels, remember to remove the rear pulley beforehand.)
  2. Select the bearing remover (F–H) that best matches your vehicle’s bearings. Apply some lubricant to the threading and tapered end. Install the remover onto the bearing as shown. Press in by hand or hammer in with a rubber mallet until you hear an audible click. Do not use a hard hammer as this may damage the part.Orion-Motor-Tech-V20231226-Wheel-Bearing-Puller-Tool-Kit-FIG2
  3. Place the main body puller (J) over the bearing remover with its fingers lying flat between the rotor bolts as shown.
  4. Place the large brass washer (K) and 1-1/8″ nut (L) onto the bearing remover as shown. Tighten the nut by hand.
  5. Lubricate the expander dowel (I). Using a 3/8″ hex wrench (not included), insert it from underneath the wheel hub through the wheel bearing and the bearing remover as shown.Orion-Motor-Tech-V20231226-Wheel-Bearing-Puller-Tool-Kit-FIG3
  6. Place the 11/16″ nut (L) onto the threaded end of the expander dowel. Use a 3/8″ hex wrench to secure the expander dowel while using an 11/16″ torque wrench or equivalent to tighten the nut to 100 in. lb. (8.3 ft. lb.) of torque.
  7. With the fingers of the main body, puller centred over the bearing, use a 5/8″ open-end wrench to secure the bearing remover while using a 1-1/8″ open-end wrench to tighten the nut on the bearing remover until the bearing is pulled free from the wheel hub as shown.

Installation

Keep ABS encoder bearings away from ALL magnetic fields—including magnetic part dishes, magnetic bases for dial indicators, etc.—to avoid damage and malfunction.
Install the primary brake disc side bearing first. ABS-equipped motorcycles use a greenishtan magnetically encoded bearing. Install this bearing on the primary disc side and a standard black bearing on the opposite side.

On the front dual-disc wheels, install the bearing on the left side first. On the rear wheels, install the bearing on the right side first.

  1. Lightly lubricate the new wheel bearing and place it on the bearing slot of the wheel hub.
  2. Insert the backing plate (E) onto the installation bolt (A). From underneath, insert the installation bolt through the wheel hub and bearing.
  3. Select the bearing installer (B–D) that best matches your vehicle’s bearings. Fit it onto the installation bolt as shown.
  4. Fit the matching washer (K) and nut (L) onto the installationbolt as shown.
  5. Use a 3/4″ socket wrench to secure the installation bolt from underneath as shown. Use a 3/4″ wrench to slowly tighten the installation bolt nut, making sure that the bearings going in straight and that the bearing installer remains centered over the bearing at all times.
  6. Once the bearing has been fully installed as shown, remove your tools and replace the wheel.

MAINTENANCE

  • Wipe clean after use with a damp cloth wetted with water and a mild detergent or solvent. Do not use abrasive cleaners or caustic chemicals. Dry or allow time to air dry before returning the parts to their case.
  • Periodically inspect this kit for wear, looseness, binding, looseness, damage, or any other condition that might affect its safe operation. If any such condition is found, adjust, repair, or replace the problematic part before resuming use.
  • If you will not use this kit for a prolonged period, clean and dry all parts, store them in the provided case and store the case in a cool dry location inaccessible to children and away from direct sunlight.
