IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE USE AND RETAIN IT FOR LATER REFERENCE!

WARNINGS

Before use of the product, please read this instructions manual and keep it for future reference. The original document was prepared in Hungarian language. This product is designed for trained professionals and should not be used by children! Do not use it—except for the flashlight—if the on/off button is not lit! Before each use, test its functionality by touching it to a known live point! Do not use if damaged or if it does not work properly! When in use, voltage may be present even if not indicated. This product is not a measuring instrument, but an induction tester. It detects an electromagnetic field. It is not a replacement for voltmeters. It can only be used for the specified voltage range! It only signals when the AC voltage generates an electromagnetic field of sufficient magnitude. Its operation may be affected by, for example, the material and thickness of the insulation, the shielding of the cable, the distance from the voltage source, differences in the shape of the terminals, etc. A more reliable signal is obtained when current flows through the wire being tested. The point being tested may be live and a danger to life even if it does not give a signal!

Be careful of the risk of electric shock! Do not touch it with wet hands. Protect the device from dust, humidity, liquids, moisture, frost and shocks, as well as from direct heat and sunlight. Only for use under dry, indoor conditions. This device is for household use; it is not intended for industrial or commercial applications. Cleaning should be performed using piece of dry cloth. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents! Due to continuous development, the technical specifications and design of this product may change without prior notice. The most recent instructions manual is available for download from the www.somogyi.hu website.

  • Caution: Risk of electric shock! Do not attempt to disassemble of modify the unit or its accessories. In case any part is damaged, immediately power off the unit and seek the assistance of a specialist.
  • The product is not a toy. Keep out of reach of children!

FEATURES AND OPERATION

FEATURES

  • detects without touch (~12/48-1000V AC)
  • indicates alternating voltage with a sound and a red light
  • three levels of signal magnitude indication
  • switchable sensitivity
  • flashlight function
  • automatic power-off
  • battery depletion indication
  • power source: 2xAAA (1.5V) batteries, not included

OPERATION

  • The presence of mains voltage is indicated by an inductive sensor.
  • Due to the way it works, the result is only indicative.

COMMISSIONING

Remove the battery compartment cover by unscrewing it. Insert two AAA (1.5V) batteries, with the positive terminal towards the measuring tip. Replace the battery compartment cover. Switch on the tester and the green button will light up. Approach a known voltage source, such as a wall socket, with it. The device should give audible and light signals.

Turn on the flashlight if you need more light. The flashlight can also be used independently. If it is not switched off, it will switch off automatically after about 5 minutes. The tester will switch off after about 5 minutes even without the use of the flashlight if it is not operated. When the batteries are discharged, the on/off button flashes three times, beeps and switches off. Replace the batteries with new ones. Remove the batteries if you are not going to use them for a long period of time.

USE

To detect alternating voltage (AC), insert the sensor tip into a mains socket or close to a phase wire. The voltage tester indicates the presence of voltage. The three-step LED indicator provides an approximate indication of the magnetic field strength: L-M-H (low-medium-high). The H signal does not necessarily mean higher voltage, the voltage source might just be closer providing a stronger detectable signal. Repeat all measurements!

Distinguish between phase and neutral: separate the two wires. Approach one of the wires with the measuring tip or, if you are testing a socket, plug it into one of the slots. The stronger signal refers to the phase conductor, the weaker or zero signal refers to the neutral conductor. Use the “S” button to increase the sensitivity. This is about 48–1000V AC by default, and about 12–1000V AC when the “S” button is lit. (these are not exact, but nominal data)

DISPOSAL

Waste equipment must be collected and disposed separately from household waste because it may contain components hazardous to the environment or health. Used or waste equipment may be dropped off free of charge at the point of sale, or at any distributor which sells equipment of identical nature and function. Dispose of product at a facility specializing in the collection of electronic waste. By doing so, you will protect the environment as well as the health of others and yourself. If you have any questions, contact the local waste management organization. We shall undertake the tasks pertinent to the manufacturer as prescribed in the relevant regulations and shall bear any associated costs arising.

DISPOSING OF ALKALINE AND RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

Batteries, whether alkaline or rechargeable, must not be handled together with regular household waste. It is the legal obligation of the product’s user to dispose of batteries at a nearby collection center or at a retail shop. This ensures that the batteries are ultimately neutralized in an environment- friendly way.
