Reading and storing the user manual

This user manual accompanies this SilkyAir Flex SIF005 (hereafter referred to as the “product”), and contains important information on setup and handling.

Before using the product, read the user manual carefully. This particularly applies to the safety instructions. Failure to do so may result in personal injury or damage to the product. The user manual is based on the standards and rules in force in the European Union and United Kingdom. When abroad, you must also observe countryspecific guidelines and laws. Store the user manual for further use. Make sure to include this user manual when passing the product on to third parties.

Proper use

The product is exclusively designed for drying and styling human hair. It is only intended for private use and not suitable for commercial purposes. Only use the product as described in this user manual. Any other use is considered improper and may result in damage to property or persons. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damages or injury incurred through improper or incorrect use.

Safety instructions

WARNING! RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!

  • Only connect the product if the line voltage of the socket corresponds to the data on the rating plate.
  • Only connect the product to an easily accessible socket so that you can quickly disconnect it from the mains supply in the event of a problem.
  • Do not use the product if it is damaged or if the mains cord or plug is defective.
  • If the mains cord of the product is damaged, the manufacturer, the customer service team or a person with similar qualifications must replace it to avoid risks.
  • Do not open the housing; instead, have a qualified professional perform repairs. Contact the customer service team for this. Liability and warranty claims are waived in the event of repairs performed by the user, improper connection or incorrect operation.
  • Only parts that comply with the original device data may be used for repairs. This product contains electrical and mechanical parts which are essential for providing protection against sources of danger.
  • Do not immerse the product or the mains cord in water or other liquids.
  • Never touch the mains plug with wet or damp hands.
  • Keep the product away from water! Do not use the product near or over water contained in baths, washbasins, sinks, etc.
  • Do not place the product such that there is a risk of it falling into a tub or sink.
  • Do not reach for the product if it has fallen into water. Unplug immediately before retrieving it. Failure to unplug the product may result in an electric shock.
  • Always switch the product off when you are not using it, when you intend to clean it, or in the event of a malfunction.
  • Never insert any objects into the housing.
  • Do not pull the product out of the socket by the mains cord; instead, always pull it out by the plug itself. Never move, pull, or carry the product by the cord.
  • Keep the product away from open flames and hot surfaces.
  • Lay the mains cord so that it does not pose a tripping hazard.
  • Do not kink the mains cord, wrap it around the product, or lay it over sharp edges.
  • Only use the product indoors.
  • Do not use an extension cord with the product.
  • When the product is used in a bathroom, unplug it after use since the proximity of water presents a hazard even when the product is switched off.
  • For additional protection, the installation of a residual current device (RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mA is advisable in the electrical circuit supplying the bathroom. Ask your installer for advice.

WARNING! RISK OF INJURY!

  • The product can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the product in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
  • Children must not play with the product.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by unsupervised children.
  • Keep children under 8 years of age away from the product and mains cord.
  • Do not leave the product unattended while it is plugged in. EN
  • Make sure that children do not play with the plastic wrapping. They may get caught in it when playing and suffocate.
  • This product reaches high temperatures and is not suitable to be used on either synthetic or real hair extensions.
  • The product heats up during use. Always hold it by its handle when it is hot. Do not touch the hot surfaces of the product or let them come into direct contact with the skin.
  • Do not apply hair spray when the product is switched on. This is a fire hazard.
  • Keep sufficient distance from all flammable objects, e.g. curtains and drapes.
  • Do not use outdoors or operate where aerosol products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.
  • Always allow the product to cool down before storing or cleaning.
  • Only use the attachments supplied with the product.
  • Do not cover any ventilation openings on the product during use.

NOTICE! RISK OF DAMAGE!

  • Place the product on an easily accessible, level, dry, heat-resistant and sufficiently stable surface. Do not place the product on the edge of the surface.
  • Ensure that the mains cord does not come into contact with hot parts.
  • Never attempt to clean the product by immersing it in water and do not use a steam cleaner to clean it.

Checking the product and package contents

NOTICE! RISK OF DAMAGE!

  • If you are not cautious when opening the packaging with a sharp knife or other pointed objects, you may quickly damage the product. Be very careful when opening it.
  1. Take the product out of the packaging.

  2. Check to make sure that all parts are included (see Fig. A).

  3. Check whether the product or individual parts are damaged. If this is the case, do not use the product. Contact our customer service.

Operation

  • Clean all parts of the product before first use as described in the chapter “Cleaning”.
  • The product may emit a slight smell when it is first used. This is entirely safe and harmless. Ensure there is adequate ventilation in the room.
  • Always hold onto the handle 14 when using the product.
  1. Connect the mains cord 16 to an easily accessible mains socket.

  2. If necessary, install one of the attachments ( 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 ) to the air outlet 1 . See chapter “Using the attachments” for details.
    For installation, gently push the attachment onto the air outlet until the attachment locks into place.
    For removal, slide the attachment lock 3 downward and then lift the attachment off from the air outlet (see Fig. B).
    Operation
    WARNING: The attachments become very hot after use. Wait until they are cooled down and safe to touch before removal.

  3. If necessary, slide the rotation lock 4 downward and then turn the nozzle 2 90° to use the product as a dryer or curler (see Fig. C).
    Operation
    Release the rotation lock once the nozzle locks into place.

  4. To switch the product on, slide the on/off switch 12 to the middle position (on). The on/off switch can be set to 3 positions (off/on/lock).

  5. To change the operating temperature, press the temperature button 6 repeatedly until the desired temperature (39, 50, 70 or 90 °C) is selected. The operating temperature shows in the temperature indicator 7 .

  6. To change the air speed, press the speed button 5 repeatedly until the desired speed level (1–3) is selected. One or more speed indicators 8 illuminate to show the selected speed level.

  7. For a shot of cool air, press and hold the temperature button for around 2 seconds. The cool air icon ( ) 11 illuminates when the function is activated. Release the temperature button to cancel this function.

  8. To lock the selected operating temperature and air speed level, slide the on/off switch to the top position (lock). The lock icon ( ) 10 illuminates when the lock is activated.

  9. To switch the product off, slide the on/off switch to the bottom position (off). The product remembers the last temperature and speed settings for your next use.

Using the attachments

Using the auto wrap barrels

  • The product comes with 2 auto wrap barrels. The left one has an arrow pointing to the left ( ◀) whereas the right one pointing to the right (▶ ).
  • Use the left one on the left side of your head for anticlockwise curls and the right one on the right side of your head for clockwise curls.
  1. According to your styling needs, attach the left auto wrap barrel 17 or right auto wrap barrel 18 to the air outlet 1 .

  2. Turn on the product.

  3. Hold the hair section and place the top/middle part of it onto the auto wrap barrel (see step 1 in Fig. D).
    Using the auto wrap barrels 
    The auto wrap barrel automatically wraps your hair section around the barrel. Make sure your hair is not too wet if it shows difficulty wrapping around the barrel.

  4. Gradually move the product towards your head and allow the auto wrap barrel to wrap the whole hair section (see step 2 in Fig. D).

  5. Once the wrapping ends, let go of the hair section and allow the product to continue heating the hair section until the desired curls reveal. The required time and temperature may vary depending on the texture and moisture level of your hair.

  6. Once the curls form, press and hold the temperature button 6 for around 2 seconds to activate the cool air function. Allow the cool air to blow for around 10 seconds. This helps to set the styling.

  7. When styling is done, pull the product straight down to release the hair section.

Cleaning

WARNING! RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!

  • Always disconnect the mains cord and let the product completely cool down before cleaning.

NOTICE! RISK OF DAMAGE!

  • Never immerse the product in water or other liquids. Make sure that no water or other liquids penetrate the housing.
  • Do not use any aggressive cleaners, brushes with metal or nylon bristles, or sharp or metallic cleaning utensils such as knives, hard scrapers and the like.
  1. Clean the product with a damp cloth.
  2. Dry the product thoroughly with a soft and clean cloth.

Internal cleaning

  • With this function, the motor operates in reverse direction to draw air from the air outlet 1 and clean the internal parts of the product with cool air.
  • Use this function every 2 weeks or when the cleaning icon ( ) 9 illuminates.

Overuse may damage the product.

  1. Connect the mains cord 16 to an easily accessible mains socket.
  2. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the speed button 5 and temperature button 6 at the same time for about 3 seconds to activate the internal cleaning mode. The product operates in reverse direction for about 10 seconds before stopping automatically.
  3. If necessary, repeat step 2 to activate this function again. You can only activate this function 3 times at a time. To enter the internal cleaning mode again, you must unplug the product and start over again.

Cleaning the filter

To avoid the accumulation of dust inside the product, clean the filter cage and filter mesh every 2 weeks.

  1. Turn the filter cage 13 to the left until it detaches from the product (see step 1 in Fig. E).

  2. Slide the filter cage downwards along the mains cord 16 (see step 2 in Fig. E).

  3. Clean the filter cage and filter mesh 15 with a soft cloth or brush.

  4. Attach the filter cage back onto the product. Turn it to the right to lock it in place.

Storage

All parts must be completely dry before being stored.

  • Store the product in a clean and dry place, avoiding heat and direct sunlight.
  • Store the product so that it is not accessible to children.

Troubleshooting

Some problems may be caused by minor faults that you can fix yourself. To do so, follow the instructions in the following table. If it is still not possible to resolve the problem, contact customer service. Do not repair the product yourself.

The product does not operate.
  • Make sure the product or mains cord 16 is not defective, and the mains cord is properly connected to a mains socket.
  • The product overheats. Unplug the product and wait until it has completely cooled down before using it again.

The hair is singed.|

  • The selected operating temperature is too high. Select a lower temperature.

Error message E01 or E04–E10 shows in the display.|

  • There is an internal error. Contact customer service for support.

Error message E02 or E03 shows in the display.|

  • The voltage is either too low or too high. Connect the product to an appropriate mains socket.

Disposing of the packaging
