Prepare to Install
!CAUTION
RISK OF FALLING OBJECTS. Read and follow all instructions for mounting the
shade system. Failure to follow these instructions could result in minor to
moderate injury.
Important Notes
Please Read Before Installing
- Lutron systems are intended for use with only Lutron hardware, controls, and power supplies.
- Codes: Install by all local and national electrical codes.
- Environment: Ambient operating temperature: 32 °F–104 °F (0 °C–40 °C), 0–90% humidity, non-condensing. Indoor use only.
- Maintain sufficient clearance between the moving shade and any object.
- Mount fixed controls and keep remote controls out of reach of children.
- DO NOT operate shades if there are visible signs of wear or damage.
- For wiring and programming information, refer to Sivoia QS Basic Wiring and Setup; P/N 045520.
- For Care & Maintenance, please see the last page of this document.
Lutron Items
Depending on quantities ordered and shipped, bracket kit(s) may or may not be
packaged inside shade box(es)
Tools Required
Mark the Mounting Bracket Locations
- Mark the location of the mounting brackets so that they are level and centered over the window, ensuring that the screws will be driven into a structural member capable of supporting the operating load of the shade system.
- Bracket-to-bracket distance = tube width + 1.5 in (38 mm).
- DO NOT use the uninstalled shade to determine the bracket location. Always use the bracket-to-bracket distance to determine the bracket location.
- There is an idler spring that compresses* during shade installation, allowing the shade to fit inside the bracket-to-bracket distance.
- IMPORTANT: At the correct bracket-to-bracket distance, idler compression will be approximately 50% of its total travel.
- Allow ample clearance to prevent the fabric from rubbing against the trim, window, top treatment, or any object. Wall mount may require spacer blocks (not included), to clear the trim.
Install the Mounting Brackets
Using fasteners that are appropriate for the mounting surface install the mounting brackets at the marks made in the previous section.
IMPORTANT
You must install 4 screws per bracket when mounting to a wall or ceiling.
Jamb-mount requires 2 screws per bracket. The self-drilling mounting screws
provided are suitable for mounting into solid wood structural members. It is
the responsibility of the installer to select and install mounting fasteners
that are appropriate for the mounting surface and capable of supporting the
operating load of 250 lbs (113.4 kg).
Cable Entry
The cable should exit from the wall, ceiling, or jamb on the drive side of the
system. Leave 12–18 in (305–454 mm) of cable exposed.
Single-Mount
Ensure the cable entry location and bracket location do not conflict. The
cable may enter above or below the bracket, with enough clearance to ensure it
will not contact the moving shade fabric after final installation. Suggested
locations above the bracket are shown.
Ceiling entry
- 1⁄2 in (38 mm) inward from the bracket
- 1⁄2 in (13 mm) from the wall
- Wall entry:11
- 1⁄2 in (38 mm) inward from the bracket
- ⁄2 in (13 mm) from the ceiling
- Jamb entry:
- 1⁄2 in (38 mm) below the ceiling;
- 1⁄2 in (13 mm) from the rear of the bracket
Dual-Mount
The dual-mount bracket features a clearance hole for cable entry on each of
its 3 sides. Use the bracket itself as a template.
Orient the Buttons and Drive Wire(s)
At the drive end of the shade, the control buttons may be oriented to face downward, or toward the front (room side). Choose the orientation in which the buttons will be more easily accessible after installation of the shade, top treatment, etc. The pictures below show specific examples; either button orientation may be chosen regardless of bracket orientation and wire routing. The square mounting yoke on the shade fits over the tabs on the mounting bracket and has a notch on each side.
With the bracket in wall-mount orientation, the front (room side) notch accepts the retaining screw, and the drive wire(s) may be routed through the upper or lower notches. With the bracket in the ceiling or jamb mount orientation, the lower notch accepts the retaining screw, and the drive wire(s) may be routed through the front or rear notches.
NOTE
Single-mount bracket shown. The dual-mount bracket was installed in only one
orientation, as shown in Section 3
Mount the Shade
IMPORTANT
This procedure must be performed by 2 people, with one person supporting
each end of the shade. If the sub-brackets are mounted in a location that
cannot be reached when standing on the floor, 2 ladders or lifts may also be
required. It is recommended that all steps are reviewed by both installers
before proceeding.
- Fit the mounting yoke at the idler end of the shade over the tabs, and behind the head of the retaining screw, on the idler end bracket.
- Depress the spring-loaded idler* by pressing the shade toward the idler bracket, and fit the drive-end mounting yoke over the tab, and behind the head of the retaining screw, on the drive-end bracket.
- For dual-mount, repeat steps a. and b. to mount the second shade.
- Verify that the installed shade system is level and centered on the window opening. Make bracket position adjustments to correct, if necessary.
Secure and Check the Shade
- Using a hand screwdriver only, tighten the retaining screw at each end of the shade to secure it. For dual-mount, repeat on the second shade.
- Using a hand screwdriver only, tighten the retaining screw at each end of the shade to secure it. For dual-mount, repeat on the second shade.
Care and Maintenance
After a product has been installed correctly by a qualified installer, there is no mechanical upkeep required. In the event adjustments or repairs are needed, the original provider of the systems should be notified. All adjustments and repairs must be made by qualified personnel. Fabrics can be periodically dusted in place using a feather duster or vacuum with a soft brush attachment. For detailed fabric care information, refer to www.lutronfabrics.com.
