Product Information

The SOL8SDR-R is a device designed to join a Mesh network. It requires power and antennas to function, and can be connected to a PC for initial configuration. It also supports additional functionality such as video source, audio headset, serial data connections, and optional amplifier integration for increased power output and range.

Product Usage Instructions

To use the SOL8SDR-R device, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that the power source is 8-18VDC.
  2. Connect the power and antennas to the device.
  3. Connect the device to a PC using an Ethernet cable for initial configuration.
  4. If additional functionality is required, attach a video source, audio headset, or serial data connections to the device.
  5. If desired, integrate an optional amplifier for increased power output and range. Refer to the user guides for details on how to do this.
  6. Download the supporting software applications and detailed user guides from DTC’s WatchDox facility. Contact the DTC support team for assistance if needed.
  7. Identify the device’s IP address by using DTC’s Node Finder application.
  8. If a DHCP server is available, connect the device to it and it will automatically allocate an IP address. If not, manually configure the device’s IP address to be on the same subnet as the PC it is connected to.
  9. Open a web browser and enter the device’s IP address in the address bar. Leave the Username field blank and enter “Eastwood” as the Password when prompted for authentication.
  10. In the web user interface, go to the Presets>Mesh Settings page to configure the Mesh settings. Ensure that the settings highlighted in the page are the same for all nodes in the network, except for the Node Id which should be unique.
  11. If the PC is intended to be the control node for the Mesh network, the Ethernet connection to the PC can remain. Otherwise, disconnect it to prevent network looping.

Overview

This quick start guide provides instructions and diagrams describing how to quickly connect and configure the SOL8SDR-R device to join a Mesh network.

Note : If configuring as a SOL-TX or SOL-RX, please refer to the relevant user guides.

Supporting software applications and detailed user guides can be downloaded from DTC’s WatchDox facility. Please contact the DTC support team:

Connections

The minimum connections required for an SDR-R to join a Mesh network are power and antennas. An Ethernet connection to a PC is required for initial configuration.

Note : The power source must be 8-18VDC.

Depending on how the SDR-R is to be deployed, a video source, audio headset, or serial data connections may be attached for additional functionality. Additionally, an optional amplifier integration can boost the power output, thereby, increasing range. Please refer to the user guides for details.

Note : The cables in the image below are provided for illustration, a full list of cable options can be found in the datasheet or user guide.

Initial Communications
DTC’s Node Finder application can be used to identify all DTC device Ethernet IP addresses connected on a network. The default setting requires the device to be connected by Ethernet to a DHCP server which will automatically allocate an IP address. If a DHCP server is not available or the SDR is connected directly to a PC, the SDR and PC IPv4 address will need to be configured to be on the same subnet.
Right-click the SDR on Node Finder to reconfigure the IP settings as needed.

When the SDR IP address has been established, open a web browser, and enter it in the address bar. On authentication, leave the Username blank and enter the Password as Eastwood.

Basic Mesh Setup
Mesh settings must be configured to join a network. In the web user interface Presets>Mesh Settings page, the settings highlighted below must be the same for all nodes in a network except the Node Id which should be unique. These settings will depend on operational requirements.
