Product Usage Instructions

  • Door Preparation Instructions for Doors with Existing Holes
    • Step 1: Measure the hole sizes.
    • If the hole sizes are larger than those shown, the lock will not fit properly on the door.
    • If the hole sizes are smaller than those shown, proceed to step 3b.
    • Step 2: Measure door thickness.
    • If the door is thinner than 1 3/8 or thicker than 1 3/4, the lock will not fit properly on the door.
    • Choose either a mortise faceplate or a circular drive-in faceplate based on the door thickness.
    • Step 3: Measure the backset.
    • If the existing backset is not 2 3/8 or 2 3/4, the lock will not fit properly on the door.
    • Step 4: Check the door jamb.
    • Place the new latch strike against the door jamb. If it does not fit properly, proceed to steps 4b and 4c.
    • If correction is necessary, trace the faceplate and mark holes.
    • If necessary, use a chisel, hammer, and drill to correct the door jamb preparation.
    • Cut the mortise so the strike extends to the edge of the jamb to allow for the latch lip.
  • FAQ
    • Q: What should I do if the existing holes on my door are larger or smaller than the recommended hole sizes?
    • A: If the existing holes are larger than recommended, the lock will not fit properly on the door. If the holes are smaller, you can proceed to enlarge them as explained in step 3b.
    • Q: What should I do if my door is thinner or thicker than 1 3/8 to 1 3/4 inches?
    • A: If your door is thinner or thicker than the specified range, the lock will not fit properly. You can choose either a mortise faceplate or a circular drive-in faceplate based on your door thickness.
    • Q: Can I install the lock if my existing backset is not 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 inches?
    • A: No, if your existing backset does not match the specified measurements, the lock will not fit properly on the door.
    • Q: How do I correct the door jamb if the new latch strike does not fit properly?
    • A: If the new latch strike does not fit properly against the door jamb, you can trace the faceplate and mark holes for correction. If necessary, use a chisel, hammer, and drill to adjust the door jamb preparation. Cut the mortise so that the strike extends to the edge of the jamb to allow for the latch lip.
