GMLighting LEDTask Lighting Tape Kit
Product Information
The LEDTASKTM Lighting Kit is a commercial quality 16.4 ft. tape light kit designed for various lighting applications. It comes with all the necessary components for easy installation, including LED tape, LED controller, RF remote control (optional), DC jack with EZ tape connector, and a plug-in power supply. The kit operates on a +24VDC power supply and features a peak output current of 12A.
The LED tape is made in China and is pre-affixed with a barrel connector for easy connection to the power supply. It is important to disconnect the power supply from the outlet when cutting or connecting tape sections, connecting power supply and control, orwhile mounting the tape. Power should only be connected after all connections have been made, and it should be disconnected again if any adjustments need to be made.
The installation instructions emphasize the importance of following safety guidelines and local electrical codes to avoid potential shock or fire hazards. The product should be installed in accordance with these instructions and the National Electric Code (NEC).
Product Usage Instructions
- Planning Your Layout:
- Measure the area where you want to install the LED tape using a tape measure.

START YOUR LAYOUT
Ask most interior and lighting designers how they atart a lighting plan – whether it’s for a kitchen, hallway, office, bedroom or anywhere…and you’ll probably get a simple answer: “with paper and pencil!” Take out a tape measure and measure out where you want to install your LEDTASK LED TAPE. Make sure that the power supply is close to the start of your tape. Confirm that you have enough tape to satisfy your ‘run’, and clear the area of any items that may hamper your installation.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury, make sure to disconnect the electrical power to the system before installation or any servicing.
LOCATE POWER SOURCE
Determine the outlet being used. Location should be in an area where plug-in
power supply will not be disturbed once plugged into outlet. Avoid using
outlets on a circuit with high power appliances to reduce possible performance
or reliability issues. Connect the optional In-line RF Controller to Power
Supply (FIG 1). Before mounting or connecting components, lay out the complete
run (FIG. 1). This will give you a good idea of spacing and insure that you
have adequate connectors and tape.
Next page: Connecting, mounting and controlling your LEDTASK™ LIGHTING
application.
CONNECT TAPE TO POWER SUPPLY
Unspool tape from reel. Before installation, make sure that tape is working
properly. Connect tape directly to 24VDC power supply using the barrel
connector that is pre-affixed to tape (FIG. 1) Tape should illuminate with all
diodes working. Disconnect from power supply and connect tape to LED
controller, and then LED controller to 24VDC power supply. Consult schematic
on page 2 and (FIG. 2).
Test Controller: Before MOUNTING, take a few moments to put the controller
through its paces. Consult page 4 to see Key to Features. You’re ready to make
your custom installation! WHERE TO CUT
After determining your layout, you may need to make a cut in order to add a connector. Connector’s are used to bridge areas where you do not want any light. We made it easy for you to find exactly the right place to cut your tape. Make sure that cuts are made perpindicular to the tape, and right on the vertical cut mark (FIG. 3).
USING CONNECTORS
In your kit you will find a variety of connectors and wire. Like you did in Step 2, trim off a quarter inch section of the backing adhesive tape toexpose the bare metal back of the tape (FIG. 4). KEEP CONNECTOR OPEN UNTIL SURE THAT TAPE IS IN PROPER POSITION. Align the Red/+ to Red/+ and Black/- to Black/- on each connector to the LED tape. Once connector is closed, it is secure and will not open easily. Insert trimmed end of tape until it stops against connector. The copper pad conductors on the tape should be aligned to metal contacts of the connector. Push tape into connector so that contacts hold tape firmly. Close connector latch until you hear it snap close. (FIG 5, 6).
For Tape to Wire
Align the Red/+ to Red/+ and Black/- to Black/- on each connector to the LED
tape. Insert ends of wire into the connector (FIG. 7). Push down on cover to
snap latches closed. Attach tape to other side as in previous step. If needed,
use pliers to squeeze the connector onto the wire until latched.
For Tape to Tape
Align the + to + and – to – on each connector to the each LED tape. Insert
ends of LED tape, making sure that brass prongs connect to copper pad
conductors (FIG. 8). Push down on cover to snap latches closed.
Running long stretches of wire is straight forward. If you are interrupting your LED tape run by connecting to another room or a good distance from your first run, you can utilize the 20AWG wire that we provide for you. Cut end of each length of tape that will be interconnected and make sure that you are connecting red to red and black to black when wiring both lengths together.
MOUNTING
Make sure that surface where tape will be mounted is free of dust and debris. Before mounting, use a household cleaner to prepare surface. Then, pull back paper covering adhesive double stick tape and using only your fingers (no tools), carefully press tape along route that you are mounting on. Double- sided tape will take 24 hours to reach maximum adhesion.
