Charging the battery on the HSD

Switch the battery off.

Clean the cover of the charging socket @. Avoid getting dirt, e.g. sand or soil, in the charging socket and contacts in particular.

RearStop Brake Light
The brake light will shine when the brakes are operated. This feature is always-on and automatic whenever the Bosch Drive is powered on -

- Your HSD is designed for individual personal use: riding with both wheels in contact with paved roads or graded and maintained gravel roads. This Tern bike is not intended for racing, jumps, hops, wheelies, or similar activities which may cause damage to the bicycle and risk injury or death to the rider.
- The warranty will be void if your HSD is not used by the intended usage.
- The warranty is enclosed separately.
- If your HSD was not purchased locally from a Tern-authorized source, it may not have the correct drive assistance settings and may not be used on public roads.
- Only bicycle trailers that conform to EN 15918 can be used with the HSD. To see which trailers and attachment methods have been tested and approved, please refer to the Tern website. If your trailer has not been tested by Tern, check with the trailer manufacturer for information concerning compatibility and proper installation.
- Only child seats that conform to EN 14344 can be used with the HSD. To see which child seats and attachment methods have been tested and approved, please refer to the Tern website. If your child seat has not been tested by Tern, check with the child seat manufacturer for information concerning compatibility and proper installation.
Weight and Loading
To safely operate the HSD, you must observe the following:
- The maximum gross vehicle weight of your HSD should not exceed 180 kg (397 lb). The maximum gross weight is defined as the total weight of the bike, batteries, passenger(s), accessories and cargo.
- Maximum rider weight should not exceed 120 kg (264 lb).
- The weight of the HSD without a battery is 24.6 – 26.4 kg (54.2 – 58.2 lb), depending on your model.
- The maximum weight on the top of the Rear Rack is 80 kg (176 lb).
- If the capacity stated above differs from your HS D’s CE Frame Sticker, follow the CE Frame Sticker.
- The maximum limit for the Combo Mount is 20 kg (44 lb).
- For accessories, please consult the manual included with each accessory.
FIRST RIDE

Read all the instruction manuals supplied with your HSD. If anything is unclear, ask your dealer before riding off.

Check the tire pressure and make sure it is within the minimum and maximum values indicated on the sidewalls of the tires.

Adjust the saddle height to the preferred position.
-
Adjust the Andros Stem to the preferred position.
-
Press@to power on the Operating Unit.
-
Select level of assistance.
-
Press “+”@to increase.
-
Press”-“© to decrease.
-
The selected mode is shown at@).

The following assistance levels are available:
-
OFF: The motor assistance is switched off. The e-bike can be operated as a normal bicycle through pedaling.
-
ECO: Effective assistance at maximum efficiency for maximum cruising range.
-
TOUR: Uniform assistance, for touring with long cruising range.
-
AUTO: The support is dynamically adapted to the riding situation.
-
TURBO: Maximum assistance, supporting the highest speed for sporty riding.
-
The walk assistance aids you when pushing your HSD. The speed of this function depends on the selected gear and can reach a maximum of 4 km/h. To start walking assistance, press the” -“© button for more than 1 second and keep it pressed. The battery charge indicator ® will go out and a white moving light will show that it is ready. To activate walk assistance, one of the following actions must occur within the next 10 seconds:

Push the HSD forwards.
-
Push the HSD backward.
-
Perform a sideways tilting movement with the HSD.
After activation, the motor begins to push and the white bars change to ice- blue. If you release the button, walk assistance is stopped. You can reactivate walk assistance within 10 seconds by pressing the button.
The push assistance is switched off as soon as one of the following occurs: -
The wheels of the HSD are locked (e.g. by applying the brakes or hitting an obstacle);
-
The speed exceeds 4 km/h (2.S mph).
The walk assistance function must only be used when pushing the HSD.
There is a risk of injury if the wheels of the HSD are not in contact with the ground while using the walk assistance. -
Use gears as you would on a conventional bicycle to maintain an efficient cadence for your riding style. This will maximize the efficiency of the assistance to your power input and prevent premature wear on the drive system.

Note the drive assistance is limited to:
-
25 km/h in countries that follow the EU standard
-
32 km/h (20 mph) for Class 1 in countries that follow the USA standard
-
45 km/h (28 mph) for Class 3 in countries that follow the USA standard
Practice handling the bike in a safe area before riding on public roads.
LIGHTING
- If your HSD has a Valo light, make sure the on/off switch is toggled to the On position.
- Be careful to aim the light beam slightly downward so as not to blind oncoming traffic.
- You may be required to turn on the lights at all times, including day time riding. Please check your local regulations.
Flat Folding
The Tern HSD can be flat-folded to reduce its size. To do so, follow these steps:
Vertical Parking
- Apply rear brake.
- Pull up on handlebar and walk backwards.
- Make sure all support points touch the ground evenly.
In public areas, hold the bike to prevent it from accidentally falling over.
Before leaving a vertically parked bike unattended, first strap the bike to a
fixed object to prevent it from falling.
Frame and Battery Lock
- The key code is written on a card that was originally supplied with the lock and on the key itself. Please record the key number and/or store the key code in a secure location in case you need to order a replacement from the lock manufacturer. You will not be able to recover your keys if this information is missing. Registering your lock with Abus also helps provide better replacement service.
- In case you are unable to retrieve your key and key code, you may take your HSD to the local Bosch dealer to retrieve the key code from the Bosch controller. Note this information may not always be possible or available.
- The frame and battery locks are keyed alike, meaning the same key works for both locks
App eBike Flow
The eBike Flow app is the control center for the Bosch smart system on your HSD. Use the app to lock your bike, monitor your riding distance and battery status, manage your service appointment schedule, and install over-the-air updates to keep your smart systems up to date
