SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Before using this electrical appliance, read the instructions below carefully and keep them for future reference:

  1. WARNING: The filling aperture must not be opened during use.

  2. The instructions for appliances shall include the substance of the following:

  3. This appliance is intended to be used in household and similar applications such as:
    – staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments;
    – farm houses;
    – by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments;
    – bed and breakfast type environments.

  4. Before plugging the appliance into the wall socket, check that the local electric current corresponds to the current specified on the appliance‘s rating plate. Always plug your appliance into an earthed wall socket.

  5. Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after the appliance malfunctions, or if it is dropped or damaged in any manner. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or  similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

  6. Unplug the power cable from the electricity network as soon as you stop using the appliance and prior to any cleaning, maintenance or accessory assembly work.

  7. Never place the appliance, the power cord or the plug in water or any other liquid.

  8. Prior to first use, clean all the accessories with warm soapy water. Rinse and dry carefully.

  9. This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved. Cleaning and user  maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised.
    Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children aged less than 8 years.

  10. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and  understand the hazards involved.

  11. Children shall not play with the appliance.

  12. The marking of this device (symbol of a crossed-out dustbin) complies with European Directive 2012/19/EU relating to “used electrical and electronic equipment”.
    This marking means that this equipment, at the end of its useful life, cannot be disposed of with other household waste. The user is required to deliver it to operators who collect used electrical and electronic equipment. Collection operators, including local collection points, shops and local authorities, create an appropriate system for collecting equipment. Appropriate collection of used electrical and electronic equipment helps avoid harmful impacts on human health and the environment, resulting from the presence of hazardous components, as well as from improper storage and treatment of this equipment.

  13. Details regarding cleaning of surfaces which are in contact with food can be found in the “CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE” section.

  14. Take care not to burn yourself with hot steam.

  15. Do not touch the hot parts of the appliance (such as the steam wand or the metal filter). Use the handles or knobs.

  16. Do not operate the coffee machine without water.

  17. Do not remove the metal filter holder when the appliance is preparing coffee or when steam and hot water escape from it, and make sure you release the pressure from the water tank and the steam wand before removing the tank or  metal funnel.

  18. Do not use outdoors.

  19. There is a potential risk of injury if used improperly.

  20. The surface of the heating element may remain hot for some time after use.

  21. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.

  22. Place appliance on flat surface or table, do not hang the power cord over the edge of table or counter.

  23. Ensure the power cord does not touch the hot surfaces of appliance.

  24. The appliance must not be immersed.

  25. Do not place the coffee maker on a hot surface or beside a heat source or open flame (such as a gas or electric hob or oven) in order to avoid to prevent it being damaged.

  26. To disconnect, turn all controls to “off,” then remove the plug from wall outlet. Always hold the plug. Never pull the cord.

  27. Do not use appliance for anything other than its intended use and place it in a dry environment.

  28. Never place the coffee machine in a cabinet when it is in use.

DESCRIPTION

BEFORE FIRST USE

UNPACKING

  1. Unpack the appliance and remove all packaging materials.
  2. Check the appliance has no visible damage and no parts are missing.
  3. Wipe the main unit and clean the accessories following the instructions in the CLEANING AND CARE section.
  4. Before first use or after storing the machine for a long period of time, follow the sections MAKING ESPRESSO (without ground coffee in the filter) and FROTHING THE MILK FOR CAPPUCCINO (without water in the jug) to dispense hot water and produce 2 minutes of steam. Perform this procedure 2 to 3 times to  thoroughly flush the espresso and steam systems.

OPERATION

Place the espresso machine on a flat, level and dry surface.
5.1. FILLING THE WATER TANK
The water tank is removable for easy cleaning.

  • Turn off the machine.
  • Remove the plug from the mains power socket.
  • Fill the water tank with water and close the lid. Do not exceed the MAX level mark on the tank.
  • To remove the water tank to clean or fill with water, hold the tank on both sides and pull up.
  • To reattach the water tank, slide the water tank back into the machine and gently push it down.

5.2. MAKING ESPRESSO
To prepare a good cup of espresso, flush the espresso system and warm up the cup before brewing.

  1. Fill the water tank up to the MAX level mark.

  2. Make sure the steam control knob is in the OFF position, then plug the power cord firmly into an earthed power socket.

  3. Press the On/Off button to turn on the espresso machine.
    The On/Off button will light up and the single/double-cup buttons will blink to indicate the boiler is preheating the water. The single/double-cup buttons will stop blinking and stay illuminated once preheated.
    To flush the espresso system and warm up the cup

  4. Perform steps 5-11 without adding ground coffee to the filter and select the double-cup button at step 8.
    To make espresso

  5. Insert the filter into the portafilter, add ground coffee. Level the grounds and tamp with a tamper. A measuring/tamping spoon is included with your machine.
    ■ 1 tablespoon of ground coffee makes 1 cup of espresso. Adjust according to your taste.

  6. Hold the portafilter handle under the unlock position ( ), align the tabs on the portafilter with the slots in the group head (when facing the machine this is at an angle of approximately 130 degrees), insert the portafilter into the group head and turn the handle anti-clockwise to the lock position ( )until it locks into place.

  7. Place the warm cup on the drip tray.

  8. When the single/double-cup buttons stop blinking, press either the single or double-cup button as required. The machine will start the extraction and automatically stop when the preset volume has been extracted. To stop the flow  of coffee at any time, press the previously selected single or double-cup button.

  9. To remove the portafilter from the group head, turn the handle clockwise towards the unlock position ( ).

  10. Lift the filter out of the portafilter. Discard the used coffee grounds.

  11. Rinse the portafilter and filter in hot water, wipe out with a clean dry cloth and continue to brew the next cup of espresso.

  12. Check and empty the drip tray regularly during use.

  13. Once finished using the espresso machine, press the On/Off button to turn the appliance off and unplug it.

  14. Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning (→ CLEANING AND CARE).

5.3. FROTHING MILK FOR CAPPUCCINO
Add frothed milk to an espresso to make a cappuccino. The steam wand can be used to steam or froth milk.
TIP: If you need to prepare several cups of cappuccino, prepare the espressos first, then froth the milk for the cappuccinos in a large jug. Bear in mind that the milk will double in volume.

  1. Prepare espresso in a cappuccino cup (→MAKING ESPRESSO).

  2. Fill the frothing jug with about 100 g (approx. 100 ml) of whole milk or half-skimmed milk for each cup of cappuccino to be prepared. It is recommended to use cold milk directly from the fridge (not hot milk).

  3. Hold the frothing jug and insert the steam wand into the milk about 2 cm deep.

  4. Press the steam button and it will start to blink.

  5. When the steam button stops blinking, slowly turn the steam control knob anti-clockwise to start frothing the milk. The steam wand will produce steam. Use the steam control knob to adjust the steam pressure.

  6. Once the desired texture is obtained, turn the steam control knob clockwise to OFF and remove the frothing jug.

  7. To clean the steam wand:
    ■ Carefully wipe the steam wand with a soft damp cloth to prevent milk from sticking.
    ■ Place an empty jug under the steam wand, turn the steam control knob anti- clockwise to produce steam for a few seconds. Then, return the knob to the OFF position. This procedure purges any milk residue out of the steam wand.

  8. Pour the frothed milk into the espresso. The cappuccino is ready to serve.

  9. Once finished using the espresso machine, press the On/Off button to turn off the appliance.

WARNING:

  • Never leave the appliance unattended during use. Turn off the appliance after each use.
  • Metal accessories and metal surfaces of the appliance become hot during use and remain hot for some time after use. Do not touch hot surfaces. Always use handles and knobs.
  • Beware of hot water and escaping steam from the group head and steam wand during normal use. Always keep your face and hands at a safe distance when using the machine.

5.4. DISPENSING HOT WATER

  • Press the steam button to preheat the water.
  • When the steam button light becomes steady, place the steam wand into an empty jug and carefully turn the steam control knob anti-clockwise.
  • When finished, turn the steam control knob clockwise to the OFF position.

5.5. SETTING THE DISPENSING AMOUNT
The amount of espresso that is dispensed can be changed.

  • Single cup – from 25 ml to 60 ml
  • Double cup – from 70 ml to 110 ml
    1. Set the machine up to make espresso.
    2. Press and hold for 3 seconds either the single-cup button or the double- cup button to enter the setting mode.
    3. Press the single-cup or double-cup button again to start dispensing espresso. The relevant cup button will blink.
    4. When the desired level is reached, press the single or double-cup button again to stop pouring and save the newly set dispensing level.
    5. To return to the factory dispensing amount, press and hold the single-cup and double-cup buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.

5.6. AUTO-OFF FUNCTION
The espresso machine is designed to turn off automatically if no button is pressed within 29 minutes.

CLEANING AND CARE

WARNING: Before cleaning, unplug the appliance from the power socket and allow it to cool down completely.
WARNING: Never immerse the appliance, power cord or plug in water or any liquid.
Never rinse them under the tap.
IMPORTANT: Never use solvents, chemical or abrasive cleaning agents, wire brushes, sharp objects or scouring pads to clean the appliance.
6.1. CLEANING

  • Empty the drip tray regularly during use.
  • Clean the appliance and accessories after each use.
  • Clean the water tank regularly to ensure clean water.
  • Remove and clean the drip tray, grid, portafilter, filter and water tank in warm soapy water with a soft sponge. Dry thoroughly before reassembling.
  • Wipe all external surfaces with a soft cloth moistened with water or soapy water. Dry thoroughly.

6.2. DESCALING
To ensure the machine works efficiently, descale every 2 to 3 months or when all buttons light up blinking to alert you to descale the machine.
Descaling procedure

  1. Use a commercially available descaler for espresso machines and follow the instructions on the package.

  2. Fill the recommended amount of descaler in the water tank and fill the rest of the tank with tap water up to the MAX level mark.

  3. Place a sufficiently large container under the group head.

  4. Press the On/Off button.

  5. When the On/Off button stops blinking, press the double-cup button to dispense the hot descaling water.

  6. Press the steam button and wait until it stops blinking.

  7. Insert the steam wand into a jug half-filled with water. Turn the steam control knob anticlockwise for 2 minutes and then turn it off.

  8. Press the On/Off button to turn off the machine.

  9. Let the descaling solution sit in the espresso machine for 5 minutes.

  10. Press the On/Off button to turn on the machine.

  11. Repeat steps 5 to 7 until the water tank is empty.
    Tap water rinsing procedure

  12. Remove the water tank from the machine. Wash the water tank thoroughly with warm soapy water using a soft sponge, and rinse well.

  13. Fill the water tank up with tap water up to the MAX level mark and reattach it to the machine.

  14. Press the On/Off button to turn on the machine.

  15. Repeat steps 5-7 until the water tank is empty.

Cancel the descaling warning

  • Simultaneously press and hold the single-cup button, double-cup button and steam button for 3 seconds.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem Possible cause Possible solution
There is rust on the metal parts of the appliance. The descaler used was

not suitable for espresso machines. The descaler was too strong and corroded the metal parts.| Use a commercially
available descaler suitable for espresso machines.
Water leaks from the bottom of the espresso machine.| The drip tray is full.| Empty and clean the drip tray regularly.
Malfunction in the appliance.| Unplug the appliance
and contact your nearest authorised service centre to arrange a repair.
Water leaks from the sides of the filter.| There are coffee grounds around the rim of the filter.| Remove loose coffee grounds around the rim of the filter before inserting the portafilter onto the brew head.
The filter is overfilled.| Do not fill coffee grounds above the rim of the filter. Fill coffee grounds evenly and level with the rim of
the filter, and then tamp the coffee grounds with the tamper.
The portafilter is not properly locked into the brew head.| Ensure the portafilter is properly inserted into the brew head in the “INSERT” position, and then turn the handle to the right until it reaches the “LOCKED” position.
The coffee tastes sour.| The first flush and steam operation was not performed before the first use.| Follow the instructions in BEFORE FIRST USE.
■ The coffee grounds are expired or have timed bad.
■ The coffee grounds have been stored in a hot, wet place for a long time.| ■ Use fresh coffee grounds.
■ Store unopened coffee in a cool, dry place.
■ After opening a coffee
package, reseal it tightly and store it in the fridge to maintain its freshness.
The espresso machine needs descaling.| See DESCALING in CLEANING AND CARE.
The espresso machine does not turn on.| The appliance is not plugged into the wall socket.| Ensure the appliance
is plugged into the wall socket and the plug is firmly inserted.

knob to “OFF” and unplug the appliance from the wall socket.
Let the appliance cool down for at least 10 minutes. Plug the appliance in and try again.

The steam wand does not produce froth.| The Steam button was not pressed or is still blinking. / The Steam Control knob is in the off position.| Press the Steam button and wait until the button stops blinking.
Turn the Steam Control knob anti-clockwise to turn on and increase the steam in the steam wand.
The jug is too large.| Use a frothing jug that is slim and tall enough, with a diameter of at least 7 cm,
bearing in mind that the milk will double in volume after frothing.
Do not use a jug that is too large or too small for the amount of milk.
Skimmed milk was used.| Use whole milk or semi-skimmed milk.

GUARANTEES

Guarantees and limitations of liability
Products are guaranteed for a period of 36 months from the date of purchase, or from the date of delivery to the customer’s home. Depending on the country, this guarantee consists of 24 to 36 months of validity for the legal compliance  guarantee.
For countries that only implement a 24-month legal compliance guarantee, a 12-month commercial guarantee is applied at the end of the first guarantee, and supplements it.

For the commercial guarantee
Please go to the reception desk at your place of purchase with your proof of purchase (e.g. sales receipt), the
product and the accessories it came with, and its original packaging, for all countries other than France. It is important to have the date of purchase, the model and the serial number or IMEI number to hand (this information is usually  indicated on the product, packaging, or on your proof of purchase). You’ll need to bring back the product with the accessories needed for its correct functioning (power supply, adapter, etc.). If your claim is covered by the guarantee, the  after-sales service may, within the limits of local law, either:

  • Repair or replace faulty parts.
  • Exchange the returned product with a product that has, at the least, the same features and that offers equivalent performances.
  • Refund the product at the price stated on the proof of purchase.

Repaired or replaced products may include new and/or reconditioned hardware and components.

Commercial guarantee exclusions:

  • Damages or problems caused by improper use, accident, tampering/modification or an unsuitable current or voltage connection.
  • Use or storage conditions which are detrimental to the good conservation of the appliance (oxidation, corrosion), use of energy, use or installation non-compliant with the manufacturer’s instructions, or negligence or use of  peripherals, software or consumables which are unsuitable.
  • Professional or collective, industrial or commercial use of the product.
  • Products that have been modified, or which have damaged, altered, erased or oxidised guarantee seals or serial numbers.
  • Replaceable batteries and accessories are guaranteed for 6 months.
  • Battery failure, caused by overcharging or by failure to follow the safety instructions set out in the manual.
  • Cosmetic damage, including scratches, bumps or vandalism.
  • Damage caused by any servicing operations carried out by non-authorised persons.
  • Faults caused by normal wear and tear or the normal ageing of the product: seals, filters, accessories, vacuum cleaner brush and hose, lamps, overhead projector lamps, washing machine paddles, etc.
  • Software updates as a consequence of changes to network settings.
  • Damage caused by elements external to the appliance (foreign bodies, insects, etc.).
  • The contents of the devices – freezer, washing machine, etc. (food, clothing, etc.)
  • Product failure caused by the use of third-party software to modify, change, adapt or alter the product as is.
  • Product failure resulting from its use without the accessories supplied with the product or approved by the Manufacturer.
  • Parts for normal wear and tear or damage from use: tyre, inner tube, brake, etc.
    The customer is responsible for regularly backing up the data contained on their hard disk or in the internal memory of their device, and this before any claim is submitted.
    Auchan cannot be held liable for the loss or destruction of stored data, nor may it be held liable for damage caused to software resulting from, in particular, a restoration or a breakdown.
    Similarly, Auchan is not required to check that SIM/SD cards have been removed from returned products.
    Under no circumstances shall the provisions set out above reduce or eliminate: the legal guarantee referred to above, and the manufacturer’s commercial guarantee, if applicable (see guarantee form).
