Product Information

The IFT-RC150U is a wireless wall switch that is universally compatible with both IFT 1.0 and IFT 2.0 control systems. It is designed to be used with the IFT-ECM or IFT2-ECM. The RC150U is approved for interior installation and should not be used in exterior applications.

Installation Instructions

  1. Precautions:
    • An assessment of the location should be done prior to installation for optimum performance.
    • Keep the RC150U wireless wall switch out of reach of children.
    • Do not install damaged components. Contact your dealer for assistance if you received damaged components.
    • Do not program the wireless wall switch to the IntelliFire
    • Touch Technology Electronic Control Module (ECM) when the appliance is hot to avoid the risk of burns.
  2. RC150U Kit Contents: Please refer to the user manual for a list of components included in the kit.
  3. Installation Steps:
  4. Remove the contents from the packaging.
  5. Verify that the IFT-RFM or IFT2-RFM is already connected to the ECM. Connect the RFM to the ECM by aligning the pins and tabs and pushing it into the ECM until both tabs latch into position. Ensure the two components are securely fastened to each other.
  6. Determine the location for the RC150U. The selected location should be within 30 feet (9.14m) of the gas appliance and have visual sight of the appliance. Avoid exposing the device to extreme heat.
  7. Insert a small flat screwdriver in the tab located at the bottom of the wall switch and twist the screwdriver to remove the front cover of the wall switch.
  8. Secure the wall switch on a flat wall surface using the provided screws and drywall anchors.
  9. Insert two AA alkaline batteries (supplied) in the correct orientation into the battery receptacle.
  10. Remove the cover of the wall switch to access the pairing hole.
  11. On the ECM, move the ON/OFF/REMOTE switch to the REMOTE position. The green LED will blink three times, and after a few seconds, an audible beep will occur to indicate that the system is ready. Pairing the RC150U to the Electronic Control Module (ECM):

Note: If the green LED continues to blink slowly (the system is searching for a clear channel), wait until it stops before proceeding to step 3.

Leave this manual with the party responsible for use and operation.

Introduction

  • The IFT-RC150U is a wireless wall switch that is designed to control the functions of Hearth & Home Technologies appliances equipped with IntelliFire Touch® Technology. It can be used to turn the appliance on and off as needed. It can also control the appliance’s Cold Climate function and measure room temperature in conjunction with the Intel-liFire app.
  • The IFT-RC150U carries the “U” designation, meaning it is universally compatible with both IFT 1.0 and IFT 2.0 control systems. In this guide, any mention of ECM is in reference to either the IFT-ECM or IFT2-ECM.

RC150U Installation

A. Precautions

  • This wireless wall switch is tested and safe when installed in accordance with this installation manual.
  • DO NOT install any of the components included with this kit if they look damaged.
  • DO NOT modify, disassemble, or substitute any of the components included with this kit.
  • Installation of this wireless wall switch MUST BE DONE by a qualified service technician.
  • The location of the RC150U may affect performance. An assessment of the location should be done prior to instal-lation for optimum performance.
  • Hearth & Home Technologies disclaims any responsibility for, and the warranty will be voided by, the following actions:• Installation and use of any damaged system component.
  • Modification of the system component.
  • Installation other than as instructed by Hearth & Home Technologies.
  • Installation and/or use of any component part not approved by Hearth & Home Technologies.
  • Any such action may cause a fire hazard.
  • Read, understand and follow these instructions for safe installation and operation.

B. Determine Location

  • Determine the location for the RC150U. The selected loca-tion should be in the same space as the gas appliance with visual sight of the appliance. The device must be placed within 30 feet (9.14m) of the appliance but should not be exposed to extreme heat.
  • The RC150U is approved for interior installation and should not be used in exterior applications. Keep RC150U wire-less wall switch out of reach of children.

D. Installation Steps

  • CAUTION! Do not install damaged components. If you received components that are damaged, contact your dealer for assistance.
  • CAUTION! Risk of burns! DO NOT program the wire-less wall switch to the IntelliFire Touch Technology Elec-tronic Control Module (ECM) when appliance is hot.
  • NOTICE! The IFT-RC150U was designed for use with the IFT-ECM 2.0 (2564-130), but can be used with previous version ECMs as well.
  1. Remove the contents from the packaging.
  2. Verify the IFT-RFM or IFT2-RFM is already connected to the ECM. Connect the IFT-RFM or IFT2-RFM to the ECM by aligning the pins and tabs and pushing the RFM into the ECM until both tabs latch into position. Ensure the two components are fastened securely to one another. See Figure 1.
  3. Insert small flat screwdriver in the tab located in the bottom of the wall switch and twist the screwdriver to remove front cover of the wall switch. See Figure 2.
  4. Secure the wall switch on a flat wall surface using the two screws and drywall anchors provided. See Figure 3.

  • E. Pairing the RC150U to the Electronic Control Module (ECM)
  • CAUTION! Risk of burns! DO NOT program the IFT Remote Controls to the ECM when flame or cold climate function is on or when appliance is hot.
  1. Remove the cover as shown in Figure 2 to access the pairing hole as shown in Figure 3.

  2. On the ECM, move the ON/OFF/REMOTE switch to the REMOTE position. The green LED will blink three times. A few seconds later, an audible “beep” will occur to indicate that the system is ready.
    Note: If the green LED continues to blink slowly (system is searching for a clear channel), wait until it stops before proceeding to step 3.

  3. Locate the pairing hole on the ECM. See Figure 4. Using a paper clip or similar item, press and release the pairing button. The ECM will “beep” once and a green LED will blink for 14 seconds.
    While the green LED on the ECM is blinking, press and release the pairing button on the RC150U with a paper clip or similar item. The device will indicate it is in pairing mode with a blinking red LED. If the device has been paired successfully to the ECM, an audible double “beep” will be heard from the ECM.

  4. If pairing is unsuccessful, repeat step 3.

  5. Replace RC150U cover removed in step 1.

  • NOTICE: To program both an IFT2-RC450 and an RC150U to an ECM, repeat the same steps separately for the RC450 and the RC150U. Only one RC150U wireless wall switch and up to two RC450 remote controls can be paired to an ECM at any one time.
  • NOTICE! The limit of three total controls applies only to the IFT2-ECM. The IFT-ECM has a limit of two remote controls.

Operation

A. Turn Flame ON/OFF

  • To turn the flame ON, press the top of the momentary toggle switch.
  • To turn the flame OFF, press the bottom of the momentary toggle switch.
  • The ECM on the appliance has a safety feature that automatically shuts down the appliance after 9 hours of continuous operation.

B. Cold Climate

  • This function turns on a pilot flame and keeps the air in-side the appliance warm while not in use. It is a useful feature in cold weather to minimize condensation on the appliance glass.
  • To turn the cold climate mode ON/OFF, press the small momentary push button below the momentary toggle switch.
  • The cold climate function will automatically turn OFF after 166 hours if appliance is not actively used. If Flame ON is activated before 166 hours, the automatic timer will re-start.
  • NOTICE! The Cold Climate feature is disabled when a Power Vent is installed on the appliance.
  • NOTICE! This feature is not used on vent free appliances.

C. LED Indicator

  • A single two-color LED indicator is located above the mo-mentary toggle switch. The LED indicator identifies the control status.
  • GREEN: Blink during normal transmission.
  • RED: Blinks once every 5 seconds indicating Low Battery.
  • RED and GREEN: Blinks once every five seconds indicating that pairing is in process.
  • The LED indicator blinks every time a command is re-ceived.

D. Power Outage

  • In the event of a power outage, the RC150U can continue to operate the hearth appliance if batteries are installed in the appliance’s battery backup system. Refer to the appliance Owner’s Manual for instructions for operation
    during a power outage.

  • NOTICE: Batteries should only be used as an appliance power source in the event of a power outage. Batteries should not be used as a primary long-term power source.

E. Manual Appliance Shutoff

  • In the unlikely event that the RC150U malfunctions and will not turn off the appliance, call your dealer for service assistance. In the meantime, you may choose one of the following actions to turn off the appliance:
  • CAUTION! Risk of burns! Appliance surfaces are hot when operating and during cool down. Use care and wear gloves when opening the front and accessing compo-nents inside the appliance.
  • Turn off power to the appliance (if back-up batteries are not installed):
  • If the appliance comes equipped with a wired-wall switch, use that to turn it off.
  • Alternately, you can also locate the house circuit breaker for appliance and turn it off.
  • Turn off power to the appliance (if back-up batteries are installed):
  • If the appliance is operating with back-up batteries, and the batteries are accessible outside the appliance, remove a battery to shut down the appliance.

Troubleshooting

With proper installation, operation and maintenance your gas appliance will provide years of trouble-free service. If you do experience a problem, this troubleshooting guide will assist a qualified service technician in the diagnosis of a problem and the corrective action to be taken. This troubleshooting guide can only be used by a qualified service technician.

Symptom Possible Cause Corrective Action

The appliance does not respond to com- mands from the RC150U and the LED does not blink.| Batteries are depleted.| Verify batteries are new.
Batteries are incorrectly installed.| Verify batteries are installed in correct orientation as shown on battery receptacle.

The appliance does not respond to com- mands from the RC150U but the LED blinks.

Note: The appliance does not respond to commands from the wireless wall switch but the LED blinks alternating RED and GREEN.

| The ECM is not in “REMOTE” position or is not powered.| Verify the ECM has the three-way position switch set to REMOTE and is connected to power.
The RC150U is not paired to the ECM.| To pair the RC150U to a ECM, follow the in- structions as listed under section 2E.
There is a power outage and the appli- ance is operating with the emergency backup batteries.| Verify that the backup batteries in the appliance are installed in the correct orientation.
Defective ECM or IFT-RFM.| Manually turn OFF the appliance following steps listed under 3E and contact your dealer.
The RC150U LED blinks randomly even though no command is given.|

Communicating with ECM.

| This is normal operation. The RC150U com- municates periodically with the ECM to send or receive information.
The wall switch LED blinks red once every 5 seconds.| Low battery indicator.| Replace the batteries in the RC150U with new batteries.
The appliance turns OFF the flame after ex- tended periods of operation.|

9 hours safety shutdown timer.

| This is normal operation. The appliance will au- tomatically turn the flame OFF after 9 hours of uninterrupted operation See Section 3A.

RC150U does not pair with the ECM.

| ECM is not connected to its power source.| Verify ECM is connected to power and the three position switch is set to REMOTE. Follow pair- ing process listed in Section 2E.

Noisy radio environment is preventing ECM and RC150U from communicat- ing.

| The ECM and RC150U operate on the 915MHz radio band. Allow up to 10 minutes for the ECM and RC150U to establish contact. If the prob- lem does not get resolved, try powering OFF and ON both the ECM and RC150U and per- form pairing function listed in Section 2E.

United States

  • The RC150U complies with all applicable FCC device authorization, regulations, requirements, and device functions.
  • This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.
  • This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate ra-dio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation.
  • If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
  • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
  • Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver.
  • Connect the equipment to an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
  • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.
  • Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
  • The RC150U is labeled with a unique FCC ID number. The following label is placed on the back cover of the wireless wall switch control housing:

  2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired op-eration.

The RC150U is certified for use in Canada under Industry Canada (IC) Radio Standards Specification (RSS). This device complies with Industry Canada license-exempt RSS standard(s).
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

  1. this device may not cause interference
  2. this device must accept any inter-ference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device.
