Safety Instructions

WARNING Read all safety
warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

TRAINING
a) Read the instructions carefully. Become familiar with the controls and the correct use of the machine before attempting to operate the machine.
b) This unit is not designed to be used by children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the unit. Children are not allowed to carry out the cleaning or maintenance. This unit may be used by persons who have limited physical, sensory or mental abilities or who have inadequate experience and/or knowledge of the unit, if they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or they have been instructed by the person how to use the unit, and understand the resulting risks.
c) Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property.
d) Never operate the machine when you are tired, ill or under the influ- ence of alcohol, drugs or medicine.

PREPARATION
a) This machine can cause serious injuries. Read the instructions carefullyfor the correct handling, preparation, maintenance, starting and stopping of the machine. Become familiar with all controls and the proper use of the machine.
b) Prior to using the machine, inspect it visually for damaged, missing, or incorrectly attached protective devices or coverings.
c) Beware of overhead power lines.
d) Never operate while people, espe- cially children, or pets are nearby.
e) Dress properly! Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery, which can be caught in moving parts. Use sturdy gloves, long trousers, nonskid foot- wear and safety glasses.
f) The handle must be installed to the upper shaft only.
g) Check the working area for hidden wiring.

OPERATION
a) This machine should not be used for any other purpose than described.
b) While operating, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the machine when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Wear protective glasses.
c) Thoroughly inspect the area where the machine is to be used and remove all objects which can be thrown by the machine.
d) Before using the machine and after any impact, check for signs of wear\ or damage and repair as necessary.
e) Never operate the machine with damaged guards or without the guards in place.
f) Keep hands and feet away from the cutting means at all times and es- pecially when switching on the ma- chine.
g) Never allow children or people unfamiliar with the instructions to use the machine.
h) Stop using the machine while people, especially children, or pets are nearby.
i) Only use the machine in daylight or good artificial light.
j) Stop the machine before cleaning or when cleaning blockage.
k) Stop the machine before checking, carrying out maintenance or work- ing on the machine.
l) Stop the machine before adjusting the working position of the cutting device.
m) Stop the machine before leaving the machine unattended.
n) Ensure that the machine is correctly located in a designated working po- sition before starting the machine.
o) While operating the machine, always ensure that the operating position is safe and secure. Keep the balance at all time. Always be sure of the footing on slopes. Walk, never run.
p) Never use any metallic cutting means.
q) To reduce fire hazards, keep the machine free of debris, leaves and excessive lubricant.
r) Always ensure that all handles and guards are fitted when using the machine. Never attempt to use an incomplete machine or one fitted with an unauthorised modification.
s) Always use two hands to operate a machine with two handles.
t) Always be aware of your surroundings and stay alert for possible hazards of which you may not be aware due to the noise of the machine.
u) Take care against injury from any de- vice fitted for trimming the filament line length. After extending new cut- ter line always return the machine to its normal operating position before switching on.
v) Always ensure that ventilation openings are kept clear of debris.
w) Avoid using the machine in bad weather conditions. especially if there is a risk of lightning.
x) Beware of injuries to feet and hands caused by the cutting device.
y) If the cutting mechanism strikes any foreign object or the machine starts making any unusual noise or vibra- tion, shut off the machine and allow the machine to completely stop. Re- move the battery and take the fol- lowing steps:

  • * Inspect the machine for damage.
    • Check for and tighten any loose parts or screws.
    • Have any damaged parts replaced or repaired with parts having equivalent specifications.

z) Disconnect the unit from the power supply (i.e. remove the plug from the mains, remove the disabling device or removable battery)

  • * whenever the unit is left unat- tended;
    • before clearing a blockage;
    • before checking, cleaning or working on the unit;
    • after striking a foreign object;
    • whenever the unit starts vibrating abnormally.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
a) The machine must be checked and serviced regularly. Only have the machine repaired in an authorised workshop.
b) When the machine is stopped for servicing, inspection or storage, shut off the machine, remove the battery and make sure all moving parts have come to a complete stop. Allow the machine to cool before making any inspections, adjustments, etc.
c) Always allow the machine to cool down before storing.
d) When not in use store the machine out of the reach of children.
e) Use only manufacturer´s recom- mended replacement parts and ac- cessories.
f) When transporting or storing the machine, always fit the cutting de- vice transport guard.
g) Store the product in a dry, clean place protected from direct sunlight and only after the battery has been removed.

RESIDUAL RISKS
Even if the machine is operated in accordance with the provision, residual risks will always still remain. The following dangers can arise in connection with the structure and design of the machine:

a) Health defects resulting from vibration emission if the machine is being used over longer period of time or not adequately managed and properly maintained.
b) Injuries and damage to property due to broken accessories or hidden objects that are suddenly dashed.
c) Injuries and damage to property due to thrown objects.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR BATTERY

  1. Never use a damaged battery.

  2. Do not open the battery. There is a risk of a short-circuit.

  3. Protect the battery from heat, e.g. from continuous exposure to sun- light, fire, water and humidity. There
    is a risk of explosion.

  4. In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. Ventilate the area and seek medical help in case of complaints. The vapours can irritate the respira- tory system.

  5. Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact acciden- tally occurs, flush with water. If liq- uid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

  6. Use only original batteries with the voltage indicated on the rating plate of your electric power tool. If other batteries are used, e.g. imitations, reconditioned batteries or thirdparty products, there is a risk of injuries as well as damage caused by exploding batteries.

  7. The battery voltage must match the battery charging voltage of the battery charger. Otherwise there is a risk of fire and explosion.

  8. Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.

  9. Pointed objects, such as nails or screwdrivers, or external forces may damage the battery. This may cause an internal short-circuit and the battery to burn, smoke, explode or overheat.

  10. When not in use, keep the battery away from paper-clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects, that can cause a short-cir- cuit at the charging contacts.

  11. Used batteries must be disposed of safely and correctly.

Intended use

This garden tool is intended for trimming and cutting lawn edges and small grassy areas and lawns according to the descriptions and safety instructions indicated in this operating manual. It is not suitable for trimming bushes, hedges and shrubs. The tool is not intended for commercial use. Any other use is not as intended. Improper use is not covered by the warranty and the manufacturer will reject any liability. The user is liable for all injuries to third parties and damage to their property. Operate the unit only in the technical condition as stipulated and delivered by the manufacturer. Arbitrary changes to the unit will exclude the manufacturer from any liability for resulting injury and/or damage.

Adjustments

Caution! Before performing any work on the tool, remove the battery.

ASSEMBLING THE TRIMMER

  1. Position the safety guard 10 onto the pins of the trimmer head 7. Place the guide wheel 8 onto the safety guard.

  2. Fix the safety guard 10 and guide wheel 8 with the screws and tighten them.

ADJUST THE TRIMMER HEAD ANGLE

  1. Press the locking button for the trimmer head 6 and rotate the trimmer head 7 to the required angle. Release the locking button

    B Edge trimming

  2. ADJUST THE ANGLE OF THE HANDLE
    Press the handle rotation locking button 4 to rotate the handle to the desiredposition. Release the locking button.

ADJUST THE AUXILIARY HANDLE

  1. Press the auxiliary handle locking knob 3 to rotate the handle 2 to a comfortable position. Release the locking knob.

  2. ADJUST THE HEIGHT
    Unscrew the height adjustment locking collar 5 clockwise to adjust the height of the tube. Tighten the height adjustment locking collar counter-clockwise to lock the height.

REPLACE THE SPOOL

  1. Press both catches together and remove the cover. Replace the spool 9 or wind 3 m of 1.65 mm ø cutting line around the spool in direction of the arrows. Guide the end of the line outwards.

  2. Reattach the cover and pull on the line end to release line from the spool.
    Note: The knife integrated in the safety guard 10 trims the cutting line auto- matically to the required length.

CHARGE BATTERY (NOT INCLUDED)

  1. Plug the charger (not included) into a suitable wall socket.

  2. Slide the battery 11 onto the charger and check its LEDs:
    Instruction
    Red: Charging
    Green: Battery is fully charged
    Flashing Red: Battery is defective
    Flashing Green: Battery is too hot/ cold

ATTACH BATTERY

  1. Slide the charged battery 11 into the battery slot on the grass trimmer until it clicks into place.

  2. RELEASE BATTERY
    Press the battery release switch 12 and pull out the battery 11.

SWITCHING ON/ OFF

  1. On: Press and hold the release switch 14 and the on/ off switch 13. Off: Release the on/ off switch.

Work instructions

  • Hold the unit with both hands: one hand on the auxiliary handle 2, the other hand on the handlebar 1.
  • Keep the cutting attachment parallel to the ground and make sweeping movements from side to side.
  • Walk slowly forwards.
  • Use only the tip of the line for cutting, especially along walls. If more than the tip is used for cutting, the cutting capacity is reduced and the machine may overload.

Warning! Make sure that the guard is facing towards the user.

  • Cut grass which is taller than 20 cm from the top down in small stages to prevent premature wear of the line and machine resistance.
  • Never cut wet grass or weeds.

The trim line may break by:

  • becoming entangled with foreign objects,
  • normal material fatigue,
  • attempting to cut thick-stalked weeds,
  • striking walls, garden fences, etc.

Care & Maintenance

Cleaning
Regular and proper cleaning will not only ensure safe use, it also prolongs the life time of the machine.

  • Remove dirt and dust from the housing with a paint brush or dry cloth.
  • Remove grass clippings from the underside of the trimmer.
  • Keep the ventilation slots clean and free of dust.
  • Keep the tool, in particular its plastic components, away from brake fluids, petrol, petroleum products, penetrating oil, etc. These substances may lead to damage.
  • Do not store the tool near fertilisers and other garden chemicals. Danger of corrosion.
  • Store the battery and the appliance separately.
  • Charge the battery before storing the appliance in winter.
  • Store the appliance in a dry and frost-free place (10-25 °C).
  • Repairs may be carried out by an authorised customer service centre only
