Safe operating practices for electrically powered lawnmowers

GENERAL

a) This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
b) Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
c) Only use the product in the manner for the functions described in this user manual.
d) Never operate the appliance when you are tired, ill or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicine.
e) The appliance is only to be used with the power supply unit provided with the appliance.

TRAINING

a) Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and the correct use of the machine.
b) Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the machine. Local regulations can restrict the age of the operator.
c) Never operate the machine while people, especially children, or pets are nearby.
d) Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for ac cidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property.

PREPARATION

a) While operating the machine always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the machine when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Avoid wearing clothing that is loose fitting or that has hanging cords or ties.
b) Thoroughly inspect the area where the machine is to be used and remove all objects which can be thrown by the machine.
c) Before using, always visually inspect to see that the blade, the blade bolt and the blade assembly are not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged components in sets to preserve balance. Replace damaged or unreadable labels.
d) Warning: the lawnmower shall not be operated without either the entire grass catcher or the guard in place.

OPERATION

a) Operate the machine only in daylight or in good artificial light.
b) Avoid operating the machine in wet grass.
c) Always be sure of your footing on slopes.
d) Walk, never run.
e) Mow across the face of slopes, never up and down.
f) Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes.
g) Do not mow excessively steep slopes.
h) Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the machine towards you. Stop the blade(s) if the machine has to be tilted for transportation when crossing surfaces other than grass, and when transporting the machine to and from the area to be used.
j) Never operate the machine with defective guards or shields, or without safety devices, for example deflectors and/or grass collector, in place.
k) Switch on the motor carefully according to instructions and with feet well away from the blade(s).
l) Do not tilt the machine when switching on the motor, except if the machine has to be tilted for starting. In this case, do not tilt it more than absolutely necessary and lift only the part, which is away from the operator.
m) Do not start the machine when standing in front of the discharge opening.
n) Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times.
o) Do not transport the machine while the motor is running.
p) Stop the machine, and remove battery packs. Make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop

  • before clearing blockages or un- clogging chute,

  • before checking, cleaning or working on the machine,

  • after striking a foreign object. In- spect the machine for damage and make repairs before restarting and operating the machine. If the machine starts to vibrate ab- normally (check immediately):

  • inspect for damage,

  • replace or repair any damaged parts

  • check for and tighten any loose parts.
    q ) Avoid using the machine in bad weather conditions especially when there is a risk of lightning.
    r) Disconnect the unit from the power supply (i.e. remove the plug from the mains, remove the disabling device or removable battery)

  • whenever the unit is left unat- tended;

  • before clearing a blockage;

  • before checking, cleaning or work- ing on the unit;

  • after striking a foreign object;

  • whenever the unit starts vibrating abnormally.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE

a) Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the machine is in safe working condition.
b) Check the grass collector frequently for wear or deterioration.
c) On machines with multi blade, take care as rotating one blade can cause other blades to rotate
d) Be careful during adjustment of the machine to prevent entrapment of the fingers between moving blades and fixed parts of the machine
e) Always allow the machine to cool down before storing.
f) When servicing the blades be aware that, even though the power source is disconnected, the blades can still be moved.
g) Replace worn or damaged parts for safety. Use only genuine replacement parts and accessories.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS ON RISKS DUE TO VIBRATION

a) The declared vibration data represents the main applications of the appliance, but different uses of the appliance or poor maintenance can result in different vibration data. This may significantly increase the vibra- tion level over the total working pe- riod.
b) Additional safety measure shall be taken to protect the user from ef- fects of vibration. Maintain the ap- pliance and its accessories, keep hands warm and organize work pat- terns and periods

FOR USE OF BATTERIES

a) Do not open, dismantle, shred or short-circuit batteries. Danger of ex- plosion.
b) Batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) shall not be exposed to ex- cessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. Protect from mechanical shock. Keep dry and clean. Keep away from children.
c) Dispose of properly. Pay attention to environmental aspects of battery disposal. Do not dispose of in household waste.
d) Remove batteries when not using the tool for a longer period of time.
e) In case of battery leakage, remove the batteries and clean the battery compartment thoroughly. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
f) In case of damage and improper use of the battery, Vapours may be emitted. Provide for fresh air and seek medical help in case of complaints. The vapours can irritate the respiratory system.

Product overview

Intended use

The appliance is intended for mowing grass and lawn areas in private outdoor environment. The appliance is not intended for commercial use.

Any other use (e.g. trimming or mowing of bushes, hedges, climbing plants, roof gar – dens or balcony boxes, as well as chopping or shredding) or modification to the appliance is considered as improper use and could cause considerable dangers.

Using the appliance

Caution! Before starting to use theappliance, check the blades and fastening elements for damage. Do not use the appliance if anything is damaged.

  1. The appliance is equipped with a safety button
  2. In order to switch on the appliance, plug in and push the safety button 2 to the right and hold it, tilt the appliance backwards and lift the on/ off trigger 1 towards the handle. The safety button 2 snaps in and stays locked until the on/ off trigger 1 is released.
  3. Keeping the on/off trigger 1 lifted, wait until the appliance has reached full speed.
  4. Place both hands on the upper handle 14, return the appliance back to the ground and slowly start pushing the appliance forward.
  5. Start mowing in parallel lines. For a better result, repeat the process in a 90° angle.
  6. To switch off the appliance, release the on/ off trigger 1. Wait until the blade has come to a complete stop before proceeding with further actions.

Adjustments

  1. INSTALL HANDLE
    Install the lower bars 11 onto the screws on both sides. Fix with the locking levers 13 and washers.

    Caution! Make sure the appliance is switched off and the batteries are removed.

  2. Fix the upper handle 14 on both sides with the locking levers 13, washers and screws. It can be installed in two positions.
      Caution! Never use the appliance with open locking levers.

  1. Fasten the power cable to the handle 15 with the cable clips 4.

  2. Lift the battery cover 7 and push in two charged batteries until they click into place.

COLLECTION BAG

  1. Lift the safety flap 5 and attach the collection bag 12 to the mower. Lower the flap again.

SWITCHING ON

  1. In order to switch on the appliance, plug in and push the release key 2 to the right and hold it. Lift the on/ off trigger 1 towards the handle 15. The key snaps in and stays locked until the on/ off trigger is released.

    To switch off the appliance, release theon/ off trigger 1. The release key 2 disengages automatically.

Caution! Wait until the blade has come to a complete stop before switching on the appliance again

CUTTING HEIGHT

  1. Pull out the height adjustment lever 10 and move it to the desired cutting depth.

REPLACING THE BLADE

  1. Loosen the fastening screw A and remove the worn blade.

  2. Insert new blade with the inscription “GRASS SIDE” showing away from the motor. Tighten the fastening screw A.

Noise & Vibration

The values given in these instructions have been measured in accordance with a standardized measurement procedure specified in EN ISO 3744:1995 and ISO 11094:1991 and can be used to compare appliances. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure.

Warning! The vibration emission during actual use can differ from the declared total value depending on the use of the appliance.

Care & Maintenance

Caution! Make sure the appliance is switched off and the batteries are removed.

  • Always keep the appliance clean, dry andfree of oil or grease.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves to protect your eyes and hands whilst cleaning.
  • For safe and proper working, always keep the machine and ventilation slots clean.
  • Regularly check for obvious defects and/or damaged components.
  • Periodically check all fixings. These could become loose with time due to vibration.
  • Check the collection bag regularly for signs of wear.
  • The most used part is the blade. Inspect the lades regularly:
  • If the blade is worn or blunt, it must be replaced immediately
  • If the appliance starts to vibrate excessively, the blades seem to be unbalanced and must be replaced.
  • Replace any worn or damaged parts.
  • If the body of the appliance needs cleaning, wipe it with a brush or a soft damp cloth. A mild detergent can be used but nothing like alcohol, petrol or similar cleaning agent.
  • Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts.
  • Lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals.
  • Store the battery and the appliance separately.
  • Charge the battery before storing the appliance in winter.
  • Store the appliance in a dry and frost-free place (10-25 °C).

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol requires separate disposal for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Such equipment may contain valuable, but dangerous and hazardous substances. You are required by law to return these products to a designated collection point for the recycling of WEEE and must not under any circumstances dispose of them as unsorted municipal waste. Children must not play with plastic bags and packaging material, due to the risk of injury and suffocation. Store such material safely or dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way.
