Installing your barbecue using a mounting system
- Ensure the surface is strong enough to support the weight of the barbecue before installing the mounts.
- The barbecue is designed to be installed using the two front mounting points which accommodate a 25mm diameter tube as shown:
Installing your barbecue when using flush deck mounts
-
Choose the desired location for the barbecue and ensure that the area is level. When choosing the location take into consideration the depth of the mount, ensuring 135mm clearance from any obstructions.
-
Mark the position of the first deck mount with a pen or pencil.
-
Drill a 28mm hole into the deck for the first deck mount.
-
Measure 464mm from the centre of this hole for the Classic barbecue or 614mm for the Deluxe or Royale barbecue.
Note: Check the distance between the mounting holes at the front of the appliance prior to installation as these the measurements may vary by +/- 2mm. -
Drill a 28mm hole into the deck for the second deck mount.
-
Place both deck mounts into the pre-drilled holes.
-
Secure the deck mounts using the six 10-gauge countersunk screws provided, three screws to each mount. Ensure that both mounts are securely fastened.
-
Slide the stainless steel tubing provided into the deck mounts.
-
Align the mounting holes at the front edge of the appliance with the stainless steel tubes in the flush mounts. Slide the barbecue onto the tubes.
-
Check that the mounts are secure before use.
Installing your barbecue when using clamp-on rail mounts
- Choose the desired location on your railing to mount the appliance and allow for spacing between the mounts of 464mm for the Classic barbecue or 614mm for the Deluxe or Royale barbecue. These measurements are from the centre of one mount to the centre of the other.
- Clamp the first mount to the handrail, making sure the right angle of the mount is positioned forward of the rail. The mounts are intended to face forward to allow the weight of the barbecue to sit centrally over the top of the rail.
- With the first mount secured in place, measure the required distance (464mm for the Classic barbecue or 614mm for the Deluxe or Royale barbecue) and clamp the second mount to the rail at the correct centre-point distance. The best way to achieve this is to measure from the inside of one clamp to the outside of the other.
- Tighten the clamps using the main bolt, then tighten the smaller screw in the middle of the clamp to prevent the mounts from twisting.
- Check that both mounts are secure, and the fixings are securely fastened.
- Place the barbecue onto the mounts, aligning the mounting holes in the front of the appliance with the rail mounts.
Securing the gas hose
The following important information must be observed when mounting your
barbecue on a portable stand, a balcony bracket, or when using the rail
mounting systems:
- A two-way clamp (pictured below) comes supplied and attached to the gas hose.
- This clamp must be used to secure excess hose.
- When using the abovementioned stands or mounts, the hose must be looped and reclamped to prevent the regulator reaching the ground/deck (allow approximately 300mm). Leave the clamp in place whenever the barbecue is attached to the stand.
- If a gas cylinder is being used with a rail mounting system it must be placed in a gas bottle holder or positioned securely on a level surface. The chain supplied with the appliance must connect the barbecue with the cylinder.
- If a gas cylinder is being used with a portable stand or the balcony bracket, the cylinder must be attached to the stand using the hook provided.
Universal LPG installation
-
Your ULPG barbecue is supplied with a hose and regulator attached.
NOTE: If this barbecue is being connected to a reticulated ULPG system, the hose will need to be removed by a qualified licensed person and connected to the reticulated system with a regulator in line. -
The gas hose which is attached to the BBQ must not pass through walls or dividers.
-
Copper piping shall be used where the piping from the ULPG cylinder to the barbecue passes through a wall or cupboard.
-
Gas cylinders must be at least 1.3kg and not more than 9kg.
-
The cylinder shall not be stored in a compartment.
Natural gas installation
- If your barbecue has been supplied as a natural gas appliance, a regulator will be attached. This must not be removed. This barbecue must be installed by a qualified and licenced gas plumber in accordance with AS/NZS 5601.
Note: Any installation other than the above methods should be checked by an
authorised installer.
This barbecue is not designed to sit directly on a bench or other flat
surface. A beach stand is available (sold separately).
Grease receptacle
- Your barbecue comes with a fat cup which should be attached to the underside of the appliance using the connector supplied (as shown on the following page).
Note: Hold the fat cup vertically to manoeuvre it into position, then twist the cup to slide the catch over the hook. When removing the fat cup it is important to keep the cup upright to avoid spilling the contents. Caution is required as the contents may be hot.
Leak test procedure
- Ensure all gas valves are in the OFF position.
- In a small container, mix a solution of water and detergent or soap.
- Once the hose has been connected, turn on the valve at the gas bottle or mains as appropriate.
- Using a brush or spray bottle, apply the solution to the gas connection points and look for bubbles forming – bubbling will indicate a leak
- Turn off the valve and re-tighten the joint if possible. Repeat the leak test.
- If the leak persists, turn off the gas at the isolation valves and contact a licensed gas fitter.
Installation of your Cookout™ Classic/Deluxe/Royale Gas Portable barbecue is now complete.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Before use
-
Unpack the barbecue and ensure that all written information has been removed from the packaging.
-
Read all information provided in this instruction manual.
-
Ensure that the barbecue stands or mounts to be used are secure and safe. Refer to the installation instructions for installation of mounting systems.
-
Fit the barbecue onto Cookout™ stands or mounts and check that all is secure.
-
Ensure the gas hose and regulator are attached to the gas inlet.
IMPORTANT
• Do not remove the gas hose and regulator assembly.
• Cookout™ barbecues SSPOR-001-LP, SSPOR-003-LP and SSPOR-004-LP are to be used with ULPG only. Refer to the data plate on the barbecue for technical details.
• Do not use an adaptor at the cylinder connection. -
The barbecue and ULPG cylinder should be positioned in accordance with the relevant installation requirements. The appliance must not be located less than 200mm from combustible materials or within 1m of an entry into a vessel. When deciding on the
barbecue position, you will need to take into consideration that ULPG is heavier than air and leaking gas will fall to any low points and accumulate. -
Connect the gas regulator end of the hose to the gas bottle. This connection should be tightened by hand only.
IMPORTANT
• For storage and cylinder exchange, disconnect the cylinder only.
• Do not disconnect the hose from the appliance.
• If this barbecue is to be installed using a bayonet fitting, you must refer to your local gas authority for confirmation of the gas type if any doubt exists. -
When the gas hose is connected to a cylinder, the bottle valve may be opened to supply gas to the barbecue. Check that the gas is not leaking. You may be able to smell and/or hear the leak, but you should also check by spraying or brushing soapy water around the gas connections and the hose. This will enable you to see the gas bubbling at the leak location. If you find a gas leak at the bottle end of the hose, it is likely you have not tightened the connection enough.
IMPORTANT
- If there is a gas leak at the barbecue end of the hose, contact the manufacturer immediately and do not use.
WARNING
- Never use naked flames to test for leaks.
Before each consecutive use
- Inspect the hose and regulator for signs of wear or damage.
- Check all connections for signs of leakage
- Check that the barbecue is clean and remove any accumulated grease or cooking residue from the hotplate.
- If an ULPG cylinder is being used, check the expiry date of the cylinder.
Lighting instructions
-
Ensure that the barbecue lid is open before attempting to ignite. Check the barbecue is clear of flammable materials.
-
Referring to the pictures above, ignite the burner(s) as follows:
• Rotate the control knob to the HIGH position and hold down for 3 seconds to commence the gas flow.
• Continue to hold the knob down and push the ignitor button until the burner ignites – approximately 6 seconds.
• Once the burner is lit, continue to hold down the control knob for another 10 seconds before releasing.
• Repeat for the other burner (if applicable) if required.
• The burner may be viewed through the viewing hole in the front face of the barbecue to check that it is alight.
WARNING
• Do not get too close to the flame as injury may occur. -
If ignition does not occur, raise the knob and return it to the OFF position. Wait for 60 seconds before trying again.
IMPORTANT
• If the barbecue fails to light after repeated attempts, please contact the manufacturer. -
Leave the barbecue running for 5 minutes on the required heat setting to allow the plate to heat up before cooking.
-
Never leave the barbecue unattended while in operation.
-
When cooking is completed, turn the control knob to the OFF position and close the valve on the bottle (if applicable).
-
It is recommended that the barbecue be checked every twelve months for safe operation by an authorised person. Abnormal operation of the barbecue can be recognised by the following:
• Failure to ignite, or problems with ignition.
• The barbecue controller is difficult to turn or push down.
• The barbecue does not stay alight when the control knob is released after ignition.
MAINTENANCE
Cleaning your barbecue
The outer body and lid of your Cookout™ Classic/Deluxe/Royale barbecue are
manufactured from quality 316 marine grade stainless steel, and the plate is
made using duplex grade stainless steel. As its name suggests, ‘stainless’
steel stains less than steel but it must be cleaned regularly. If the barbecue
has not been cleaned for long periods, you may notice a brown discolouration
starting to form on the stainless steel surfaces – this is called tea-staining
and it can be prevented by following this cleaning guide.
External cleaning
- The exterior surfaces should be cleaned or wiped down regularly to prevent tea-staining and to prolong the high finish of the stainless steel.
- If tea-staining occurs it should be attended to in the early stages as it will be much easier to remove. If left, it will gradually get worse until it turns into rust.
- Washing the exterior of the barbecue using a wet cloth and warm soapy water will help to remove general contamination found in the air such as dust, dirt and salt. Do not pour water directly over the barbecue controls.
- When applied to the external surfaces, silicone-based polishes are ideal to help the stainless steel form a protective layer to prevent tea-staining and rusting. Apply and work the polish with a soft cloth then remove the polish with a second, clean, soft cloth. Do not use silicone based products on the cooking surface.
- The gas control should be oiled/greased regularly to prevent it from becoming jammed or ceased. Lift the gas control knob to remove it. Apply a small amount of lubricant grease around the shaft of the control where it enters through the top of the control box. This will prevent the control from taking in water and corroding.
Cleaning the barbecue plate
- After cooking and while the barbecue plate is still hot, pour a small amount of water onto the plate. Let the water steam and scrape off excess burnt food with a barbecue scraper. Check the level of water in the fat cup to prevent spillage.
- To remove burn marks, mix a small amount of white vinegar and water together and pour onto the plate. Work this into the surface with a scouring pad to bring the plate back to its original finish.
- Do not use scouring pads or steel wool on the stainless steel body, surround or control panel as it will damage the stainless steel surface, leaving it prone to rusting.
- Oven cleaner may be applied to the barbecue plate when it has cooled down. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. The longer you leave the oven cleaner on the plate, the better it will work – up to an hour is ideal.
FAILURE TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN YOUR BARBECUE WILL VOID WARRANTY
