Installing your barbecue
Diagram 1
-
Choose the location for installation of your Cookout™ Classic/Deluxe Electric Portable barbecue, ensuring that the surface is strong enough to support the weight of the barbecue.
-
The barbecue is designed to be installed using the two front mounting points which accommodate a 25mm diameter tube as shown in Diagram 1.
Note: this appliance is not designed to rest directly on a bench or other flat surface. -
This appliance is an outdoor electric barbecue. It is not weather-proof.
-
The barbecue should be installed in an area that does not get affected by rain or water ingress, or a cover (supplied separately) should be used.
Installing your barbecue when using clamp-on rail mounts
- Choose the desired location on your railing to mount the appliance and allow for spacing between the mounts of 464mm for the Classic barbecue or 614mm for the Deluxe barbecue. These measurements are from the centre of one mount to the centre of the other.
- Clamp the first mount to the handrail, making sure the right angle of the mount is positioned forward of the rail. The mounts are intended to face forward to allow the weight of the barbecue to sit centrally over the top of the rail.
- With the first mount secured in place, measure the required distance (464mm for the Classic barbecue or 614mm for the Deluxe or Royale barbecue) and clamp the second mount to the rail at the correct centre-point distance. The best way to achieve this is to measure from the inside of one clamp to the outside of the other.
- Tighten the clamps using the main bolt.
- Check that both mounts are secure, and the fixings are securely fastened.
- Place the barbecue onto the mounts, aligning the mounting holes in the front of the appliance with the rail mounts.
Installing your barbecue when using flush deck mounts
-
Choose the desired location for the barbecue and ensure that the area is level. When choosing the location, take into consideration the depth of the mount ensuring 135mm clearance from any obstructions.
-
Mark the position of the first deck mount with a pen or pencil.
-
Drill a 28mm hole into the deck for the first deck mount.
-
Measure 464mm from the centre of this hole for the Classic barbecue or 614mm for the
Deluxe barbecue.
Note: Check the distance between the mounting holes at the front of the appliance prior to installation as the measurements may vary by +/- 2mm -
Drill a 28mm hole into the deck for the second deck mount.
-
Place both deck mounts into the pre-drilled holes.
-
Secure the deck mounts using the six 10-gauge countersunk screws provided, three screws to each mount. Ensure that both mounts are securely fastened.
-
Slide the stainless steel tubing provided into the deck mounts.
-
Align the mounting holes at the front edge of the appliance with the stainless steel tubes in the flush mounts. Slide the barbecue onto the tubes.
-
Check that the mounts are secure before use.
Grease receptacle
Your barbecue comes with a fat cup which should be attached to the front of
the appliance (as shown in Diagram 1 and the photos below).
Note: Hold the fat cup vertically to manoeuvre it into position, then
twist the cup to slide the catch over the hook. When removing the fat cup it
is important to keep the cup upright to avoid spilling the contents. Caution
is required as the contents may be hot.
Installation of your Cookout™ Classic/Deluxe Electric Portable barbecue is now complete.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
- Check the power lead is plugged in and the supply is turned on (both the Classic and Deluxe barbecue require 10amp supply).
- Ensure there is no flammable material on the barbecue plate.
- Turn the temperature control clockwise so the control knob indicator aligns with the indicator light.
- Allow between 5 and 10 minutes for the barbecue plate to reach full temperature.
- Place your food on the plate and start cooking. When cooking large amounts of food or thick meat cuts, leave the temperature on high until the meat is seared then assess the rate of cooking and turn the temperature down if required.
- When you have finished cooking, turn the temperature control anti-clockwise to the OFF position.
- Do not close the lid until the barbecue has cooled down.
DO NOT LEAVE THE HOT PLATE ON HIGH FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES IF FOOD IS NOT BEING COOKED.
MAINTENANCE
How to clean your barbecue
The outer body and lid of your Cookout™ Classic/Deluxe Electric Portable
barbecue are manufactured from quality 316 marine grade stainless steel, and
the plate is made using duplex grade stainless steel. As its name suggests,
‘stainless’ steel stains less than steel but it must be cleaned regularly. If
the barbecue has not been cleaned for long periods, you may notice a brown
discolouration starting to form on the stainless steel surfaces – this is
called tea-staining and it can be prevented by following this cleaning guide.
External cleaning
-
The exterior surfaces should be cleaned or wiped down regularly to prevent tea-staining and to prolong the high finish of the stainless steel.
-
If tea-staining occurs it should be attended to in the early stages as it will be much easier to remove. If left, it will gradually get worse until it turns into rust.
-
Washing the exterior of the barbecue using a wet cloth and warm soapy water will help to remove general contamination found in the air such as dust, dirt and salt. Do not pour
water directly over the barbecue controls. -
When applied to the external surfaces, silicone-based polishes are ideal to help the stainless steel form a protective layer to prevent tea-staining and rusting. Apply and work the polish with a soft cloth then remove the polish with a second, clean, soft cloth. Do not use silicone based products on the cooking surface.
Cleaning the barbecue plate
-
After cooking and while the barbecue plate is still hot, pour a small amount of water onto the plate. Let the water steam and scrape off excess burnt food with a barbecue scraper.
Check the level of water in the fat cup to prevent spillage. Caution is required as the contents may be hot. -
To remove burn marks, mix a small amount of white vinegar and water together and pour onto the plate. Work this into the surface with a scouring pad to bring the plate back to its original finish.
-
Do not use scouring pads or steel wool on the stainless steel body, surround or control panel as it will damage the stainless steel surface, leaving it prone to rusting.
-
Oven cleaner may be applied to the barbecue plate when it has cooled down. Do not hose
– remove with a damp cloth. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. The longer you leave the oven cleaner on the plate, the better it will work – up to an hour is ideal.
FAILURE TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN YOUR BARBECUE WILL VOID WARRANTY
